I wish I were strong enough to do more myself, because the crew I hired to help with these code violations is just not doing it. I'm trying to be cool because I know I'm not their only client, but once again my life is on pause waiting for people to deliver, and I can't even get some basic communication most of the time.

I just want to be rid of that house. I had someone willing to buy it as is. But the city had to leap right in the way and bog it down again. I got on it right away but the help is not helping.

I'm beginning to think that I need to find another job. My immediate supervisor, the head of my department, has made it clear that she feels that I am collaborating with management against her. I've tried to make it clear that I'm not working against her, management, or really anything other than the clock...but I feel like she isn't listening.

I don't need this. As previously said, I don't like feeling like I'm causing problems, but according to my immediate boss, someone with whom I thought I had a pretty good relationship, I'm a problem.

Betcha your leaving will be a bigger problem. Probably time to find a new job and become the problem she feels you are. Remember: she literally willed it into the universe. She has no one to blame but herself.

It took too long. The city is now pursuing formal enforcement.

They have no idea how hard I tried.

What does formal enforcement look like? What steps are being taken? Do you have a lawyer or counsel of any kind? Free legal clinics in the area?

In a few weeks they'll have a hearing, and a magistrate will decide whether to start fining me up to $1000 a day, which would mean I am instantly bankrupt.

So I do have a few weeks to get this resolved, but the date cannot be pushed back anymore. This is it. Do or die. So Monday morning I'm going to be making a lot of phone calls trying to find someone who can finish this work, which sucks because I already did that and it wasn't free. The remaining work should only take a few days, but what's done so far also should have taken days.

Large hardware companies like Home Depot and Lowes have demo tools, mini excavators, and such available for rent. No idea if they provide any info on how to use them, though.

It's a good thing the house doesn't have a gas line because I would be dangerously tempted to make the house just go away. That would be stupid. The remaining work should be completely doable. There is no reason this can't be done. I just have to find someone who can do it. This guy could still do it. This guy does good quality work and does it quickly when he shows up to do it. If he shows up every day this could all be done this week. That just isn't how it's been going.

I have to be harsh. Crunch time or someone else gets the job, because I can't wait.

Guy seems to have gotten the message. One of the remaining jobs is done already. From 0 to done.

There is a part of me that enjoys this jive. The pressure sucks. Having the city breathing down my neck over a mess I never asked for sucks. Spending all my time and money on this sucks. But when things are moving and people actually do their jobs, I do enjoy my part of it.

Realistically, I do have enough time. This is not the crisis that my stress level thinks it is. But I don't want this to take all the time. I want this done. I want my life back.
