ULTIMATE THERMONUCLEAR YARD MAINTENANCE

Two more violations are probably done (there is no reason why they shouldn't be) and contracts are in place for the rest of it. There is nothing more I can do at this point but wait and hope people deliver this time.

It's big. This has been incredibly expensive. I lost a pound again. But this is rock bottom. The biggest and most expensive stuff by miles is over. The remaining tasks are trivial. I'm not going to say there's no chance of failure because the universe is very creative that way, but there's no realistic chance of failure now.

The last thing might already be done too. It's a judgment call on the inspector's part, so I won't know until he sees it. He'll be fair. As annoying and tiring and financially devastating as this has been, he's a good guy. I can't complain.

I have had the worst weekend at work I have ever had as a supervisor.
Friday we had what can only be generously called a poop geyser, as some poor druggie got hit with the parasite going around and absolutely doused a streetcar platform and the area around it so bad the fire department had to be called to hose everything off.
Yesterday while checking a building I got snuck up on by a crackhead (and we know he is because we got his hugging pipe) and damn near got stabbed before I saw him. about 10 foot from my back getting ready to lunge before I drew on him.
and today I walk into 19 open shifts and no support, no help in filling anything whatsoever.

I am tired on every level. My 12 hour shifts have turned into 13 to 14 hour affairs so I'm only getting 5 or so hours of sleep between.

To say nothing of the fact that I almost killed a man. He was armed. He was about to attack. My hand was on the trigger. There was no hesitation, no moment of contemplation, nothing. An immediate response. I cannot tell you how close I was to pulling that trigger. on a hugging hobo who broke in with a bag of tools and a crack pipe to steal some copper for his next hit.

hug me.

*hugs*

I couldn't do your job. I haven't dealt with that first thing but I know how that last thing feels. I still have nightmares about the time I thought I might have to kill a man 7 or 8 years ago.

The amount of money and energy this cost me is just brutal. I didn't need this.

I could use a happy day right about now.

I returned to work from my vacation and BotCon 2026 to discover that my immediate supervisor has been fired...which means I'm now eight for eight with supervisors at my current job. God only knows how long it'll be before #9 comes in, and in the meantime, I'm basically stuck running the department. Now, I don't want to be the supervisor, so I am really hoping that we get a new one in the very near future.

One of the hardest lessons that one can learn in life -- indeed, I'm still grappling with the ramifications of it -- is that the arc of the universe does not, in fact, bend towards justice. A side effect of that is that some very reprehensible people simply never face consequences for their actions. Everyone's probably got their own example in mind.

As comforting as an unfair universe can be, it is also frustrating, sometimes. Though increasingly, I am coming to the opinion that bearing witness may have to suffice, if there is nothing else I can do to lever that arc.
