Okay so, as long as my work schedule keeps up. I'm thinking of streaming/playing MegaMan games on Friday nights. Going to go through the collections I have and try to get the trophies and such. Also just to play through the games again.

Well I admit, I cheated. Maybe someday I'll sit down and do a proper run of MM1, but it's just so clunky.
It's definitely prototypical. 2 is where it really starts to come together, but I'd say it's 4 when they really have it down.

Powered Up is a fun way to experience it as well, but with a more modern coat of paint. Or even Wily Wars. I think they used the same engine for all three games there, based on 3's? (Just with no slide in the first two.)

But yeah, it's rough to start.

I remember when I played MM1 on my NES. It's great to have for the collection, but yeah after the polish of later titles, the roughness really stands out.

I'm mostly looking forward to revisiting MM4 to 6. MM5 is actually the very first game I ever owned, and thus probably my favorite of the NES titles.

If I was to choose how I play MM1, it would be the Powered Up version. The controls are better, and the addition of the Robot Masters to make the standard 8 is a nice addition. (Though I still kinda wish we got Bond Man)

I still haven't gone through Wily Wars. I really need too, but again MM1 is not a game I enjoy revisiting that much. Even when it's like that. So I haven't gotten around to it.

Maybe I will eventually for Friday streams. I do have a physical copy for my Genesis thanks to Limited Run.

One last thing. I'm a bit disappointed that many of the trophies for the MegaMan collection are those challenges. Seems to get all the trophies, I'd need to get a gold on each stage, and honestly that just sounds like a pain in the butt and not worth it.

(Edit: This is just my brain over thinking things, but to clarify, by a legit run, I don't just mean not using the rewind or save state functions of the collection, but no pause trick either, as I absolutely used that trick back on my NES copy.)

I'm always mixed on this. Aside from throwing the numbering all out of whack for the rest of the line (which was already kind of iffy to begin with), I always particularly liked the idea that there were eight in the first game -- with Rock and Roll rounding out that number.

It kind of made them feel like a part of that whole unit of Light robots more than when there were a whole eight other Robot Masters besides them. Then they're just sort of the outliers.

Part of my enjoyment of playing those versions of the three games is seeing how they reinterpreted various levels and things with the more advanced horsepower. Sort of like in Powered Up, but a little more traditional in style.

Ha! Yeah, I beat Yellow Devil legit once or twice back in the day. Probably not happening in that version ever again. XD

I mean, there are worse things then MM1, you could always try to play the DOS version:

I have no excuse for the save states and rewinding tonight. I just didn't feel like doing it legit.

I've beaten it on NES several times, so I was capable at one point. I admit I'm pretty rusty.

And so ends the most overhyped game of the series.

I'm sorry but to me, MegaMan isn't MegaMan till I can slide and charge shoot.
