The special edition of the Switch 2 is already sold out on Target, Gamestop says Not Available, no listings on Amazon yet, and BestBuy says Coming Soon if you log in. I'd love to get one so TMM and I can stop fighting over the Switch 2, but the scalpers will probably get them first.

Forgot to check Nintendo directly. Ofc they're sold out as well.

Some observations I noticed:
Love how, right after Link plays Epona's Song, Epona excitedly dances a little jig before running up to Link.

The Iron Boots look like they make walking underwater even slower than before.

The three goddesses still look like Academy Award trophies, lol.

You can see Ganon's Castle in the distance from Hyrule Field.

Inside Jabu-Jabu's Belly now has more color variety than before, and is much darker lit.

The Castle Courtyard now has a paved walkway running through the middle of it instead of a garden.

The Queen Fairy looks even MORE like Chappell Roan

I might have considered if it included the game (or at least a coupon for one of the myriad of Zelda games on the Switch platforms), but I’m beyond the point of fussing over special editions like that. Unless Nintendo provides something to “Wow” me tomorrow, might skip the Switch 2 for another year.

Granted, that raises the specter of what pricing will be NEXT year as component prices are still going up, with no relief in sight.

I'm not going to say that Zelda game need cel shading, but it is so freaking weird to see a Zelda game without it after all this time.

The texture on Link's tunic was a surprise. The texture makes me think of straw hat that somehow stayed green.

Nintendo showed some gameplay changes, so it doesn't look like it'll be one hundred percent strictly faithfull, but it's looking more Star Fox than Metroid: Zero Mission.

Doesn't look like they will be enough new to get me excited for it.

I was really hoping they might hang around for a while like the TotK Switch 1. I figured that might be unrealistic since we're so much earlier in the Switch 2's lifespan, but money's also a lot tighter for everybody these days, so I was hopeful. It wasn't so long ago that I was able to splurge and buy four different Zelda-themed 3DSes, and a second Switch 1 when TotK came out. But there's no way I'll be able to get a Switch 2 this year, and even next year was already going to be a struggle. I guess there's still a chance that this is just for the preorder quantity and there will be more after the actual release date, but I guess it's time to get used to the disappointment.

I was originally going to wait to get a Switch 2, but when Pokopia was announced, I had to get one. A 2nd special edition one isn't necessary, but it's still disappointing to see how quickly they disappear. I was checking the Best Buy site every hour last night. I saw the Preorder button light up. I got a notice to wait while they check available stock. Aaaaand it's gone. Currently on Game Stop's site which says "coming soon". Now I'm just being stubborn about it.

I might get one from Best Buy if they ever open the pre-orders again. I have a ton of rewards points from them, this might be a good way to use them.

I'd have preferred a return to 1980s Hyrule for the anniversary. Something that embraces that era's weirdness and pretends things never developed in a different direction. Almost a Missing Link... Link.

Here's a video highlighting some of the things that appear to be changed in the new game. Glad to see it confirmed that being able to block an Iron Knuckle's attack is new. I was sure you couldn't do that in the original, but it's been long enough since my last playthrough that I started to doubt myself.

Funnily enough, that's basically what the Satellaview version of the first Zelda game is, titled "BS The Legend of Zelda" ("BS" meaning "Broadcast Satellite" for those unaware). A reimagined version of the first game's Hyrule with a smaller but similar layout, all new dungeons, and all done in updated SNES graphics. Even features the late great Seizo Kato as the first-ever voice actor for Ganon.

Honestly? I wouldn't be too surprised if we get another top-down "2D" Zelda before we see the next, big "3D" one. If only because a top-down Zelda might be a smaller project that might take less time to develop. Relatively speaking, anyway.

Since they gave us playable Zelda for Echoes of Wisdom, maybe next time they'll even have Ganon be the star of the next one? Crazier things have happened. Nintendo does like to experiment, sometimes.

I legit wouldn't mind getting a game with Midna as the main character.

I saw a video pop up on YouTube that caught my attention:

Long story short, the timeline hasn't actually changed, but the Japanese Nintendo site that shows the full timeline has been updated to make a couple things more explicit. Namely, it now explicitly shows the BotW/TotK era as a common end point of any of the three timelines (the web site's HTML code calls it a "shared epilogue"), and makes it explicit that TotK Rauru founds a new Hyrule after the classic Hyrule is long gone. The updated timeline even explicitly shows three separate Hyrules being founded on the adult timeline (post-Skyward Sword, pre-Spirit Tracks, and pre-BotW/TotK).

Here's the site:

Zeltik's video also has some speculation about the framing of the OoT update. Basically, this game may be framed as someone from the future (possibly the Wild era) relating the story of OoT, with the game's art style reflecting the idea of re-enacting the story using dolls. I can definitely see that as a possibility.
