He-Man, and also the Masters of the Universe

eBay seller WSI Toys is now offering MOTU Core wave 4. If prior actions by this seller hold true, Wave 4 should be hitting domestic retailers in the next month. Likely in time for the holiday build up by retailers. Until in hand, OPENED, images come up, the seller DOES offer a solid look at the wave in their finished production state. Contrary to prior assortments, this IS a 4 figure wave, evidenced by the co-sell images.

Skeletor still looks fabulous. Love the open hand change and the new head sculpt. TriKlops and Ram Man both look fine as lower budget versions of their Chronicles figures. From what I can see, the face deco on Teela is a solid step up from her first figure release.

So my collection has been absent any representation of Trap Jaw. I mean...I guess I've had some representation, but there's always been an asterisk (I'll explain in a moment).

Anyway, in my attempt to fill the Trap Jaw sized hole in my collection, I got this from BBTS.

This is one of those rare cases where the toy actually looks better out of its packaging.

This is why I said my previous representation had an asterisk. I had a Kronis (Trap Jaw before he was Trap Jaw) and a Mouse-Jaw (the TMNT cross-over version). But I never had an actual Trap Jaw. Well...objective achieved!

I’ve been looking for a solid Trap Jaw that wasn’t in the odd-sized Cartoon Collection scale. I REALLY wanted the Film Origins Trap Jaw, but it ended up a mid-year Walmart exclusive. Which tends to be an even bigger cluster eff than Walmart exclusives already tend to be.

Thinking about just waiting and seeing how the new Chronicles direction goes, see how Bart Sears‘ Man At Arms and Buzz-off turn out and see if I want to see how his Trap Jaw will be approached.

My favorite was the original 2000x sort. Amazing arm, spring loaded elbow and jaw, etc. Not very posable by modem standards, though he will ride the Origins Sky Sled!

I saw the new 200X samurai Heman toy at Ross his week for $15. Was tempted to get it, but I didn't like the way the power sword looked.

For my birthday a friend (who gave me the other Trap jaw decades back, too) gave me the newer movie action featured Trap jaw with the turning waist that switchblades his arm tools out. That one's awesome if it fits your scale. And it even fits in the front seat of the Origns Collector and can grip the steering column more naturally than an actual Origins figure due to the superior leg jointing. Which I did before I knew he drove it in the movie, and makes me wonder if the functional compatibility was deliberate in the design.

Yeah, they’re fun little hits of MOTU fun. I do wish some of these had, like, double the runtime to flesh out the narrative just a bit more. But I do commend them getting generally complete stories into a 4 minute runtime. But again, the pacing of the dialog and such you can REALLY tell they’re rushing through some of this. But I like them in a Filmation sort of way.
It’s rather fascinating looking at how Mattel and Hasbro approached, basically, the same idea of a short form series on YouTube: Hasbro’s pushed for longer narrative, while Mattel has focused on self contained adventures. From a design perspective, it feels like these were revised “evergreen” designs that were tweaked where they could to jive with the film’s portrayals, where possible. We get a black Man At Arms, but Roboto is pretty accurate to how he was portrayed in Filmation.

Also, these aren't geoblocked (in Japan), unlike many of Hasbro's shows, like Cyber World.

Although I thought Idris Elba was a good fit for Duncan in the film, I would have preferred the original Filmation design/colouration for these cartoons.

I also thought that Trap-Jaw's and Beast-Man's voices sounded too similar.

I really only got this so I could break that $25 threshold of getting something else shipped overnight. But hey, it's a pretty cool Teela, so, no regrets.

And out of package.

Absolutely would not stand on her own. It looks nice, but dang! That is one crazy long ponytail!

I was going to stop at Roboto, but... tempting.

She was always my favorite version of Teela, visually if nothing else. Though I did rather like the movie one...

Minor news about MOTU Movie Core wave 4: Entertainment Earth seemingly started getting their allotment a week and a half ago, albeit at EE’s higher 12.99 price point. BBTS still has the assortment on for September, while Amazon still has them locked for an October 1st release date (Mattel mandated?).
Reminder that Wave 4 will be the final 2026 assortment, featuring Teela (V2, with hair up and rifle staff), Ram Man, TriKlops, and Skeletor V2 (translucent with new head, hand and magic effect).

While there ARE listings for 2027 Core figures, including Evil-Lynn, TrapJaw, and a He-Man variant; it remains to be seen if the 2027 theme refresh will make it to production, or produced in sufficient numbers to reach a wide range of consumers. According to leaked details, the 2027 refresh will be “Battle for Subternia” and feature some sort of glow in the dark gimmick

Oh, that is VERY promising for a more glowy, & wider released, Scareglow....

Dragon Pearl of Destruction got delayed until "early 2027". To tide us over, here's a look at the first stage and boss

Man, that sucks that it got delayed, but it still looks like fun.

In streaming news, Masters of the Universe ended up being a streaming hit for Amazon. With over 1.17 billion viewing minutes reported, Amazon is reportedly in talks about going forward with a sequel.

Awesome news! I still haven't watched it yet, as my TVs got fried in a lightning strike. I will have to watch the film once I get some new ones!

MY KING!

Debating on it. I can’t imagine Mattel won’t do another King Hiss down the line…if it lasts that long. There’s elements I like and some I don’t care for. Also not sure if I’m going to be “in” Chronicles enough to justify his cost plus Club Grayskull membership

I prefer the "pretender shell" approach used in the original figure.
