Honestly... I think that I prefer age limits over term limits.
If someone gets into office young, they can end up term limited before they get ancient, without actual stopping a gerontocracy from forming.
Age limits, on the other limb... Frankly, we really should be minimizing the chance of people dying in office, so discouraging people from running after they hit retirement age shouldn't be something we fight. Yeah, being old doesn't mean decrepit or that they're inactive, but working until you die really shouldn't be normalized, either.
And, not to beat around the bush, but older people do have options to influence public opinion without actually being in office.

Come to think of it, aren't there some hyper-progressive countries that actually make it mandatory for everyone to retire when they reach the legal retirement age? I assume that includes elected officials.
There may be, I'm not sure, but I've also seen studies that indicate people who work late into life tend to be happier than those who retire to a life of leisure. Granted 'work' in this case isn't the mandatory 'work to live' type situation most of us end up in. People, even elderly people, like to feel useful and to explore areas they are passionate about. Watching TV and golfing every day generally don't fill that itch.
Maybe in countries that pay people enough to actually live, they can enjoy retirement. Here in the US, on the other hand......
Yeah. I've been at many jobs (including my current one) where geriatrics are forced to work because they just cannot survive. Hard work, hours on their feet because their social security just doesn't pay the bills.

I'm not going to concede the Dems treating Trump with kid gloves is part of some nefarious conspiracy to hasten our march to fascism. I think they are out of touch and trying to live in the past, aka being stupid and failing to adapt, or at least the ones running the party are.
I feel like the more old-fashioned someone was, the more shocking and outrageous the Republicans' recent behavior would be, if anything. Like, if you've known someone for forty years and they suddenly start acting like a schizophrenic, you're going to be way more alarmed than if it's someone you just met last week.
You know what else old and out of touch people are good at? Acting like nothing has changed. I can guarantee you schumer is sitting in his office thinking "I will not let them compromise MY values or change MY actions" while planning to reach across the aisle to people whom are actively laughing at him.
