But, timelines ARE fun! Especially when you need something to think about when you're grinding out 300 extra fights for the Shiny Charm. LOTS of time for you to think about that kind of stuff.

Bah.. "Nintendo timelines are haaard!" Bah.

BAH I SAY! Go look at the MegaTen timeline!!!!

I thought there were four worlds.
Gens 1 and 2
Gens 3, 4 and 5 - a world without mega evolution, eventually destroyed by Ultra Beasts and both Looker and Anabel are sent through ultra wormholes to:
gens 6 and 7 - plus Let's Go, a world with mega evolution
gens 8 and 9 - plus USuMo and the Legends games.

Hmm...that actually is kind of a elegant solution in a way. Each of the "worlds" being more or less the consoles the games released on. The Gameboy/GBC, GBA/DS, 3DS, and Switch worlds.

I don't think it's perfect. And there are probably enough references to past gens and events in each of those generations. Plus, there is the problem of the Third Versions needing to be their own worlds anyway, within their own "Console Worlds".

And I don't think Looker and Anabel are from the world that Guzzlord destroyed. I think the Fallers are more like what happened to the Player in Legends Arceus. I think it's possible Arceus is the one sending more "advanced" Trainers to different worlds or timelines in order to fix problems that the locals aren't equipped to handle. Sending in ringers to solve problems that pop up. And eventually sending them back again.

So, I'm not convinced that totally works. But, I do like the idea. And I probably could be convinced if you have a bit more detail.

My personal theory is that Gamefreak sees every single individual playthrough of these games as their own "dimension". Every time the player chooses a different outfit or has a different party, it's a different world. We can kind of see shades of this with Rainbow Rocket. The past evil leaders all seem to come from worlds where they either won, or where the player never showed up. "Game Over" or "Unfinished" games, perhaps. Which means the Pokemon multiverse is basically infinite, because of all the different minor choices the players can make and who they choose to put on their team.

As for what Arceus is doing with the multiverse in the first place....well, my thoughts on that are LONG...and complicated.

But, basically, when Arceus hatched from his Cosmic Egg, the pieces of it's Shell turned into other Pokemon that Arceus never intended to create. These "Shell Giants" or "Shell Titans" probably want to re-combine with Arceus, and become the Cosmic Egg they used to be once again. The "Shell Giants" are the powerful "Gimmick" Pokemon that we've been dealing with since Gen 5. Kyurem, Deoxys (...maybe), Necrozma, Eternatus, and Terapagos. All of them are different types of "invaders" or "invasive species." All have crystalline attributes. All of them have craters associated with them crash landing on the planet. And all of them are responsible for "altering" Pokemon, in a similar way that Arceus is able to create Pokemon. A lesser ability, but still a powerful one. That's the story reason for all the gimmicks. Absofusion, Mega Evolution, Z-Moves, Gigantamax, and Terastallization are all these "Shell Giants" trying to gain influence over the Pokemon, in order to eventually gain influence over Arceus directly. Trying to get to Arceus by "infecting" the Pokemon with these changes and gimmicks.

So, Arceus is trying to limit the influence and spread of these "invasive species", by sending powerful trainers to catch and contain them. That's why there's Fallers. It's a way to quarantine and limit the spread of these "Shell Giants".

Threre's also something going on with certain Giant Trees that we should probably be paying attention to. And how the Crystals that are scattered around the various regions keep getting larger and larger as the generations go on. Both are probably signs of the "infection" getting worse, in different ways. There's also the Pokerus of it all. Pokerus has kind of disappeared in the latest games (for real world reasons)...but Alpha Pokemon are a similar concept (random stronger pokemon) with a similar symbol on their profile. Story-wise, I wonder if you could say that Pokerus was actually the first stage of what would become the Alpha Pokemon. But, that's more of a side tangent.

This is just a overview. If you want to read more, head on over here:

...I really need to write up a full, complete post about all this one of these days. Pictures and everything. I will say, I was sort of right and sort of wrong about the Prism Tower, given the way Legends Z-A ends. It'll be interesting to see if Prism Tower changes again, once the DLC is over. But, I was VERY wrong about Gen X, given the leaks.

I read that Legends 2 was originally meant to be set in Johto and can see great potential with that considering the history the place had. Celebi's a natural fit for the time travel stuff. We saw many Johto Pokemon in the paradox Pokemon line up so having the player between past, present and future would have been neat for more Pokemon variants.
It would have been fitting on the basis of Gen IV's regions but maybe that's what Gamefreak wanted to avoid.

I quit playing Pokemon at the beginning of Gen 4, as I wasn't going to invest in 2 DSs and basically start over, hardware-wise, and while I continued to play the Gen 3 games over the years, didn't really stay informed on Pokemon games until Pokemon GO.

So I have a question: Outside of Norman in RSE, has there been any Pokemon games where the player interacts with their parents in any way other than checking in at home occasionally? As in, battling alongside them or adventuring together? And is the parent character playable?

The reason I ask is this: Haywire3's reading has taken off this year, and he expressed interest in playing Pokemon, so I cleared up a FireRed cart and let him play. He likes it, but he keeps asking where I am so we can adventure together. And I tried to explain to him that the early games let you trade and battle together, but can't really travel together. Which of course got me thinking, with Pokemon being almost 30 years old at this point, there's bound to be some parents who are Pokemon players as well as their kids. I think it would be cool if there was a Pokemon game where a parent could play as an adult Pokemon trainer alongside their kid who is learning to be a Pokemon trainer.

Most of the parents (usually just the mom) just stay at home. Most of them don't even have names. Occasionally, you'll get a parent with a bit more lore, like being a Rhyhorn Racer or Contest Champion back in the day. One mom has a "shady" past as the infamous "Cat Scratch Girl". But, it doesn't really lead to anything, gameplay-wise. And no, there's never been a playable parent character.

Multiplayer is a different matter. As lately, they've been giving people more chances to play together with people. Scarlet and Violet are probably the best at that. You can actually travel around together online. Catching Pokemon together and just riding around together. You can't really battle In-Game Trainers or Gym Leaders together, but Scarlet and Violet probably allow you to do the most together.

But, that would require 2 Switches, and a subscription to Nintendo Switch Online, and 2 copies of Scarlet and/or Violet. That would be a little expensive. Even if you went for a Switch Lite. I'm not sure if I really recommend that. But, it is a option.

Although, if you wait a bit, the next generation may be even better for that kind of experience. They have been improving the amount of online functions with each game, so Gen 10 should be even better than Scarlet and Violet for online play. Though, that would be a similar setup, just for the more expensive Switch 2.

To my surprise I was just doing the ranked battle and only got rank T, back in the normal gameplay I discovered I got the starter megastones, then I lucked into a shiny Flable.

Shiny Alpha Mawile! I am so freaking excited! I have a regular Shiny Mawile named "Chompers" sitting in Home. Given it's trainer name (Caldwin), I must've caught it in one my my DS/3DS games.

But now she has a brand new Alpha sister sitting in a Master Ball named Futakuchi (Futakuchi-onna being the Japanese myth that Mawile is based on, but I didn't have enough room on the name thing for the whole thing).

I already have a regular Mawile leveled to 100. But this one being a shiny alpha, you can bet I'm going to be leveling up this one and giving it a permanant place on my team. Also gave it the Mawilite. I am so,,,hugging...excited!

Aw man! I've made it my goal this game to level every shiny I get up to 100. I was finally down to my final team of 5 shinies getting leveled when I hear that sweet sweet noise. I just got a shiny Pidgeotto. Shiny charm ruins lives, y'all!

Edit (15 minutes later):
And I just got a shiny Bunnelby. Maybe I should rethink this idea of max leveling all my shinies.

Just a reminder, if you hear the Shiny sound, you're looking around and you can't find it, you even go to the rooftops and can't find it, you're reloading so you don't lose it, but trying to do a "getting hotter, getting colder" type thing and still can't find it...check the tops of street lamps. I now have a shiny Pidgeotto and Pidgey.

So I had a shiny Gastly that I evolved up to Haunter. I kept it there because I like Haunters design over Gengar. She now resides in Violet.

I just got a shiny Gastly in ZA. I may take this one to Gengar.

*checks Bulbapedia*
Oh...requires trade to evolve. Never mind then. Haunter, here we come.

btw, is it just me or are shinies getting easier to get.

I've been getting an odd amount of shiny Fletchlings lately. Like, I have a Shiny Fletchling, Shiny Fletchinder, Shiny Talonflame and an extra Shiny Fletchling left over.

Anyone else want a Shiny Fletchling?

Eight more days to Mega Dimension, I've got some levelling up to do though.

I'm collecting a few Pokemon all the way back in gen 3 to transfer to Z-A because I know it's a one way trip!

There's a new Mystery Gift Distribution event in Legends Z-A. I'm not even going to spoil it. Just download the Mystery Gift via the Internet and see for yourself. There is a video below, though.

And a new reveal trailer!

Mega Lucario...Z! Z-Type Megas are real!!! I'm..not sure if I like this design as much as the original Mega Lucario. The white and teal is a interesting choice. And it's a lot of yellow. But, maybe I'll grow to like it better as time goes on. I do like how it seems to be more of a "battle dancer" with it's animations.

You know, here's a side tangent about the DLC in general that just occurred to me. And I'm not sure when else I'd bring it up.
You know how we're going to be using donuts in the DLC to level our Pokemon over level 100? Well...those are "O" Powers. Because donuts...are shaped like Os. That's..so STUPID that it loops around to being brilliant again. Now...will Mister Bonding make a appearance after being gone for a decade?

And you know what? I suppose now is as good of a time as any to write down my final thoughts on the base version of the game, before the DLC drops. I've beaten the game. I've got myself a little living dex to plug into Home when the time comes. I've done ALL the sidequests. I've gotten the Shiny Charm. I think I'm qualified now to judge this game completely.

And...I think I still mostly agree with my criticisms from weeks ago. Let's order this by "Pros" and "Cons".
+Pro: I love these characters. They're quirky. They're fun. They're memorable. They actually made me want to try Croissant Curry. They're everything that I expect Pokemon game characters to be. I just kind of wish they got the opportunity to actually DO more in the story. Because we basically get a introductory mission for each of them, and then we just team up with them all for the finale. We don't do a whole lot with them outside of that. Which brings me to...

-Con: I hate to say it...but this is maybe the worst Pokemon story we've gotten in a while. Not the worst ever. But, maybe the worst since...maybe Sword/Shield or Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon? Pokemon's actually been stepping up it's story-game in the last few games with Scarlet/Violet's converging narratives and Legend Arceus's unique setting. Even with Sword/Shield, I kind of appreciate the story on a thematic level, with everything revolving around people handing responsibility off to the next generation. The people who are training others to step up into their old roles, and those who don't trust the next generation to handle things, insisting that they can only handle this themselves.

In this game...I'm not sure what the theme is. I'm not even sure it has one. Maybe it's that different people have different dreams for the future they want to create, reflecting all the different "wishes" people had during the Z-A Royale? Maybe it's making amends for past mistakes, reflecting AZ's plot? Maybe it's just...unsatisfying endings, because I think there are a few things that are just left unsatisfying by the end of the story. Almost on purpose. Maybe it'll become more clear once the DLC drops. But, for right now...it kind of feels like things just kind of happen. And part of the problem is that Pokemon likes being vague about it's broader story beats at times. But, I'm not entirely convinced that the grand finale of the game actually makes much sense. It's not explained well enough for my liking, I'm not sure why certain things happen the way they do. And then there's the epilogue and....I need to go into spoilers about some of this stuff. Join me in the spoilers if you've already beaten the game.
Okay, let's get ONE positive spoiler out of the way first. They found a way to have their cake and eat it, too, with Megas. Congratulations. They were able to square the circle with Megas being bonds forged by friendship...and somehow also causing them immense pain and suffering like steroids. Turns out ROGUE Megas are painful for the Pokemon. But, regular Megas with Trainers are fine. I'm glad they were able to figure a way to "fix" the lore, there. Even though...I'm still not clear what the Rogue Megas were forming a bond WITH? Even with something like Mega Rayquaza, it still had it's "bond" with the entire planet powering it. So...what were the Rogue Megas "bonding" with in order to Mega Evolve? Was it just Ange? But, it's still happening even after Ange is dealt with...so...is there something that was USING Ange to bond with random Pokemon to cause the Rogues popping up? Is this still a ongoing plot point the DLC will address?

I don't know how I feel about skipping so many ranks in the middle of the story. On the one hand...it kind of shows that even the developers knew this game would get repetitive if they kept that up the entire game. But, on the other hand, if they realized it wasn't fun...why keep it in? It just shows that one of the main gimmicks of this game was kind of flawed from the outset.

Okay, so....AZ's built ANOTHER giant death machine after the first one worked out SO WELL for him. Fine. People backslide. I can accept that. It's stupid, but AZ is still human, he can make mistakes. Although, I do find it odd that this machine is called "Ange" and the Ultimate Weapon...doesn't really get a "name", even as a retcon. Maybe it's a translation issue, but it feels strange.

But...this machine was actually supposed to grant everyone eternal life. Using Eternal Flower Floette to share the gift of immortality with everyone. So...why didn't it do that? NO ONE seemed to get immortality from this, even though Lysandre got immortality from the supposedly more destructive Ultimate Weapon. Was it because Ange "mutated" by absorbing the Ultimate Weapon Energy? Was it actually caused by EF Floette's Flower mutating? The Pokedex entry for Mega Floette does mention that it's the flower that's absorbing all the Mega Energy. Is AZ just really bad at building magical machines? Why did the life-giving machine turn into a giant murder kaiju? Maybe the idea really is that AZ's machines work on irony. The Ultimate Weapon absorbs a bunch of life force to cause destruction...but gives someone immortality as a side effect. And Ange gives a bunch of life force...to itself...but also takes one person's life.

That kind of brings me to AZ's death. And...I don't think this was handled very well. I felt like it kind of came out of nowhere. Sure, he was coughing the entire game, that should have been enough of a hint. But, he's old, and he was a homeless drifter for ALL of that. I thought that was just how he was. Plus, it's not explained very well what caused it. At first, I thought that maybe Ange being used absorbed HIS life force? But, that doesn't make sense, if Ange was supposed to GIVE people MORE life force. And if that was the case...why is Lysandre STILL immortal? Shouldn't BOTH of their immortalities have gotten "absorbed"? Or is the idea that AZ's lifeforce was somehow connected to Ange, and destroying the machine also "broke" him? That's CANNOT be the intention, because I can't see Gamefreak being okay with the main character "killing" a friend, even unintentionally. I guess the idea is that AZ's immortality just...ran out right at that moment? It's a little convenient. I know this is a kid's game, but I think I would have preferred if AZ sacrificed his life in a more direct way, in order to stop the rampaging Hyper Rogue. Maybe just have him "fade away" rather than actually dying, literally getting absorbed like he's made of energy. I don't know, by trying to make AZ's death less sad, I feel like they made it more confusing.

And then there's Taunie/Urbain's mom. I HATE how they dealt with this. I don't even understand why they bothered to make this a plot point. They didn't DO anything with it. They tease this subplot throughout the entire game. Really building it up. And then...nothing. Until you beat 15 trainers in the Infinite Z-A Royale. Then you get a small cutscene where they reveal...the mom's probably dead. That's just...such a anticlimax. In a game where we're teamed up with a literal detective, we basically got to do NO actual detective work on this "mystery". Why even include this? What's the point? And to "hide" the conclusion behind a long post-game mission as a "reward"...ugh. We don't even learn her NAME. I don't even think it's anyone we originally MET in XY, it seems like it's a brand-new character. Unless the DLC shows us a alternate version of the mom alive in the Mega Dimension, this was just a complete waste.

...But, maybe that's the point? Maybe they were going for a more "bittersweet" tone for this game? I mean, the whole Gengar side-mission kind of went that way, too. Sometimes, things just happen, and there's nothing that you can do. But...it feels WEIRD in a Pokemon game, I guess. Especially with 90% of it happening off-screen.

Also, it's a small gripe, but I really don't think I like the design of Hyper Rogue. I get the idea, turning Lumiose Tower into the final boss. But...it's just a evil flower. Meh. Also, dealing with multiple Rogue Megas all in a group was a PAIN. I hated how they were all different types so that NONE of my Pokemon were effective against everyone in a group. I suppose that was the idea, to make it harder. But, it was more annoying than fun or "properly" challenging. Teaming up with everyone we met along the way was fun, but the mix of Rogue Megas just kind of soured the experience for me. Hyper Rogue was a flashy final boss, but I didn't actually care for fighting it. Complete Zygarde did a lot of heavy lifting to make that final boss any sort of cool. I honestly couldn't tell if the Red and Blue Flowers were weak to physcial and special moves respectfully or not.

As for the True Final Boss...man, Zygarde is a PAIN! Even after getting ALL the Canari Plushes, I still felt like I, the Trainer, was too weak. I ended up fainting a lot , because I kept getting hit. I didn't see that I was supposed to go to the sides when Zygarde did it's "Z" move on the ground. I still feel like my character was too weak, even after getting all the upgrades. It's annoying when it's not my Pokemon that keep fainting, it's ME! And there's no real way to level up your character other than the Plushies. I guess that's the idea. It IS the final boss, it's supposed to be tough. Arceus gave me problems, too. But, I feel like this game prepares you less than Legends Arceus did. I almost NEVER used my dodge-roll in the Rouge Mega fights, but suddenly it's KEY in the Zygarde fight. It's feels like a big difficulty spike. Well...that and Mega Barbarnacle, who seems to PURPOSELY target the weaker trainer like this is Fist of the North Star, rather than the Pokemon I have out. Honestly, it has me dreading the almost inevitable Mega Rayquaza fight in the DLC.

Also, I'll just repeat myself. The beginning of the game is REALLY slow. And I'm not sure the beginning of the game introduces things in the right order. I feel like we should have seen Canari on screen a LOT sooner than we did. I do feel like there are pacing issues. It kind of reminds me of Sun and Moon's story in that way. Only I ended up liking Sun and Moon's story a lot more by the end of things. USUM kind of botched things, but the original SM had a pretty great story. Legends Z-A...I definitely have my issues with it.

And, part 2, because I'm going LONG on this one.
+Pro: This is basically the battle system that I always imagined a "real-time" Pokemon game would have. The 4 attacks on the 4 face buttons. In a way, this game is a childhood dream come true.

-Con: I would still prefer it if we could just control our Pokemon directly. I did get used to it as the game went on, and it does "feel" better once your Pokemon are bulkier and higher level, so that you can tank attacks a little better. But, I still think stuff like dodging and even just moving around would feel better with direct control, rather than the Pokemon kind of just following the Trainer on a delay. Honestly, the Pokemon following you around all the time was kind of annoying at times. There are times when you switch up your attacks when some attacks go really close up and others happen far away. And when you switch the different kind of attacks, your Pokemon tends to run over to YOU before they attack. There were several times when I wish the Pokemon would just stay in the place I left it, instead of following me around.

+Pro: I actually think this game looks and runs pretty well. Say what you will about the textures, but it RUNS well. I was playing on the Switch 1, and I really never had any noticeable slowdown or performance problems. After Scarlet/Violet, that's kind of a big deal. Gamefreak can still make a game that actually runs! That's good news!

-Con: I was really expecting the DESIGN of the city to be more varied in the various Sectors. A lot of the city feels kind of same-y. The same kind of buildings. The same kind of colors being used over and over again. I think each Sector of the map taking inspiration from different styles of architecture or having different designs would really spice things up and make each part of the city more memorable. I know that would make the city feel like a hodge-podge, rather than a cohesively designed planned community. But, it would be more fun to traverse if the different areas were more memorably different. And I'd probably give each Sector it's own elemental "theme" with a winter, spring, fall, and summer Sectors. Or something.

+Pro: The Pokemon themselves actually have a lot of battle animations in the game. For a series that for a long time relied on the Pokemon standing in place, with "effects" flashing over them to show the attacks, this is actually a pretty big deal. The animations all look pretty decent. I really wasn't overly underwhelmed by any of them. I guess actually having your Pokemon go up and physically attack each other really makes a pretty big difference.

-Con: I got annoyed by the false "choices" in this game. Sure, that's true of every Pokemon game. They give you the illusion of choice, without it ever actually effecting the plot. But here, they don't even GIVE you a option to choose a different thing to say. Just to get some funny or weird dialogue from the other characters. Every time you have a option to say something in this game, you just get given a list of synonyms to "pick" from that all seem to lead to the same dialogue. You don't even get the CHANCE to choose a "sassy" dialogue option, before you have to choose the intended one. It's silly. If you aren't actually going to give us any choices, what's the point of giving us dialogue options in the first place?

-Con: I don't think I like how this game handles overworld obstacles. For one, it doesn't really explain everything you can do. It doesn't explain that water moves can wash away Sludge, or that fire moves burn up the Brambles. And I don't really like how we have to choose a move everytime we want our Pokemon to do something on the overworld. I think I prefer how Legend's Arceus did it. We just toss our Pokemon and run, all automatic. It led to a better "flow" than you can have here. In Z-A, you basically have to stop everything so you can choose a move. Just that half-second pause kind of changes the "flow" of how you can move. Maybe as a compromise, only certain types of Pokemon can remove certain obstacles, instead of certain elemental moves? Instead of a needing a fire-type MOVE to burn Brambles, you need a fire-type POKEMON instead? That way, we can still just toss the Pokemon and run. I don't know, I just liked the "flow" better in Legends Arceus, myself.

-Con: This is REALLY minor. But, I wish the game tracked where you still have Colorful Screws to pick up around the city. Or even just gave you a hint to what area they're in, if you only have a few left. I managed to miss ONE Screw while doing my pickups around the city, after getting the double-jump. And I had to go through the ENTIRE map a SECOND time, just to find that last Screw. I know I didn't need it. But, I was only missing ONE, I was GETTING my Giant Canari Plush, dangabbit! Just little indicators on the map would be a nice quality of life upgrade here.

+Pro: Shinies are once again easier to spot and hear in this game. And I appreciate that. I like that they continue to sparkle even after you see them, for those hard-to-notice shinies. Keep it this way. This is just a pure improvement.

-Con: Maybe this is a option I missed, but I wish I could rearrange my Satchel permanently. Whenever I sort by favorites, it reverts back to the default version whenever I quit the game and then restart it. It's weird. And I'm not sure it's entirely intentional. I wish the game would save the way you have your Satchel sorted.

-Con: This game expects you to pick up a LOT of Mega Shards. But, it caps you at 999 of them. Honestly....they should have made that a higher number. Because once you get the right Canari Plushes, you can max out pretty fast. They should have given us the ability to put like....999,999 Mega Shards in our bag. Just for this one item. It's too low of a item cap for a item like this. Especially at the prices at Quasartico for Mega Stones and Experience Candy.

-Con: Releasing Pokemon no longer earns you "grit" items. It kind of makes Mable's later Research tasks feel like unnecessary box filler. Again, unless something pops up in the DLC.

-Con: Your online Ranks reset after every season. So, you can't just grind your way to Rank A and collect your Mega Stones for the life of the game. This game is forcing you to play randos online every season. BOO! I'm glad I didn't bother to grind all the way up to Rank A, myself, but man it'd be a shame if you didn't know that and you did.

-Con: Get rid of the "entrance scream". Again, I get it. It's supposed to balance things so you don't just spam switching out your Pokemon. But, the thing is, you end up having to tank a hit every time you switch, if you do it AFTER you actually see your opponents next Pokemon. And that feels like it's missing the point. Personally, I feel like being able to switch your Pokemon to best suit your opponent's Pokemon is actually a REWARD for learning the battle system so well. You know what type your own Pokemon are, you know what type of Pokemon your opponent is using, and you memorized the type matchups so you can defeat it faster. Being able to hit it with a supereffective move right away is a REWARD for memorizing all that. And this game just completely takes that reward away. I know a lot of people think that being able to switch before the opponent makes the game too easy. But, it's not the game's fault that you've been playing for so long that you've memorized the type of every Pokemon in the game. Just because it's easy doesn't make it bad design. As a compromise....maybe just make it optional? If you have the "entrance scream" on, maybe you get a boost to your stats, which better allows you to tank that hit that you're going to take from switching. If you have the "entrance scream" off, you don't get that stat boost, or maybe you even get a negative stat decrease, but it allows you to attack right away without any delay. Let people choose how they want to play.

-Con: EVERYTHING in this game feels so cramped. A lot of bigger Pokemon can't even make it through the streets, they're so narrow. Especially in the Battle Zones, you end up fighting in these narrow corridors. This city is just...NOT designed for Pokemon or Pokemon battles at all. Which...is KIND of the point, I guess. They do mention that other people are annoyed at just dropping Pokemon into random areas without designing these areas to fit them in. But, lamp-shading the problem doesn't make it better. Fighting in such cramped quarters really isn't that fun. Maybe you can argue it's part of the challenge. But....it just feels like they're trying to excuse poor level design.

-Con: This is kind of a big one. I REALLY wish there was a way to switch Megas after you already activated one. Having to wait until the Mega Gauge is completely empty or your Pokemon faints before you can build it back up again in order to use a different Mega is SUCH a pain. I really expected them to give us a way to switch Megas, at least by the post-game. Maybe it's coming in the DLC. But, geez...this makes using Megas a LOT less fun. I imagine it's for game-balance reasons but...meh, forget game balance, make it fun instead. Switching Megas would be more fun than NOT being able to switch Megas. Give us some way to cancel one Mega Evolution and use the rest of the gauge on another one. The Plus moves are a interesting half-measure, but it's just not the same.

-Con: I really wish they used the "futuristic" setting a little more. I know this is the not-too-distant-future. But, I feel like they could have used the holograms a little more. And it would have been fun to get "Future Pokeballs" like how we got ancient ones in Legends Arceus. It felt like they didn't quite commit to the theme in this one. Then again the setting's theme is really a "work in process" with Holovators being right next to old-school Ladders, so...meh. I don't know. I guess this city really did feel like it really wasn't quite finished...take that as you will. It just makes things not quite as memorable as Legends Arceus's setting.

-Con: This is maybe the most annoying Shiny Charm to get in any game ever! And it's the Shiny Charm, I expect it to be a pain to get. But...even if you do EVERYTHING in the game, you'll probably only end up doing around 700 battles (or less). Which means you have to grind for those last few...HUNDRED...battles in order to earn the Charm. Maybe they could have set the number of battles a LITTLE lower? Then again...I feel like they were planning on most players not actually earning the Shiny Charm until AFTER they played through the DLC. So, chances are, everyone who earned the Shiny Charm already has earned it "earlier" than Gamefreak planned. I don't know how I feel about that.

Overall...this game felt a little half-baked. It feels like it was...70% there. But, it still needed to work a few things out. Tighten things up. Go back to the drawing board for a few other things. I enjoyed my time with it. And I will be getting the DLC. And Pokemon games usually DO get pretty good DLC. I just worry that this entire game may have been designed as a "prologue" for the DLC. Which...is a bit of a concern, but we'll see. But, I do wish this game was a bigger slam dunk for the franchise than it turned out to be. It's still worth playing, if the concept interests you, but it definitely has it's share of flaws.

For all my criticisms I've had of it, I've still been consistently playing nearly every day since I bought it. I'll still criticise the textures, because really, at this poiint they should be doing better. But don't think that on a whole, I don't adore this game, because I'm absolutely loving it .

I gotta be honest, before this game I had long since stopped playing Scarlet/Violet and was feeling pretty "meh" about Pokemon in general. But I absolutely can't get enough of this game.

I criticize because I love...or hate...but in this case love.

You know, honestly, I really thought I'd get down to the last few screws and just give up on it because that's just how collectathons typically go. But holy cow, I did it!

We got another Z-A distribution ahead of the DLC dropping. This time for some Max Revives, Full Restores, and Ultra Balls. Not the most exciting thing if you're late in the game, but I'll take them. We'll probably use them. Use the code:
PREPAR1NG

Serebii says the code lasts until...2027. So..no rush, I guess.
