Yeah, if that's a reference I don't know it. Pink is something else entirely.
It’s a reference to the old web machinema (as in, the style, Not the company) series called Red vs Blue, built on the Halo games. The series follows two teams of characters (the Reds and Blues), where the different characters are all different shades of their primary team color. One recruit comes in with pink, which he INSISTS is “lightish red”.
Those DC Dinobots* are absolutely beautiful, but man, I don't need to buy a whole new set of leader-class bots.
Good god, I KNOW.
But we have to cut things somewhere since Hasbro still has other options for redecos: toy, comic, diaclone, etc

They already got me for G2, and I think they MIGHT get me on the Action Master Snarl.

Yet another case of, "They should've colored them like this the FIRST time around!"

The one thing that's saving me from re-investing is that nobody after Grimlock was designed with the clear yellow parts with molded technology bits underneath. That's such an amazing detail that has always been one of my favorite parts of the G1 Dinobot toys. If all 4 of the "S" guys had that same feature, I'd be forced to rebuy them all. As it is, I can talk myself out of it.

But, if any of you are looking for Christmas gift ideas for your old buddy Donocropolis.....

These kind of come together in my head. Don't get me wrong, the G1 Dinobots are some of the most gorgeous toys of the lot, but with how the others don't match Grimlcok with the way they lack those details it really... it's just a firm reminder how only recently has Studio Series finally picked a real direction for itself instead of being some weird half-measure compromise that could never make up its mind on what it wanted.

I love how these look, but I was also content with the Hasbro ones. Of course, that could just as easily evaporate once i see more of these or see them in person -- there are many cases of me being fine with an existing release and then loving the New Hat or just the new colors. Usually with Takara involved too.

But while I lack the empirical data or the ability to give enough of a crap to actually apply any research rigor to it, I'd wager I'm not the only one who hit the kneejerk reasonse of "why didn't Hasbro color these 'properly' the first time" while forgetting that when I bought the Hasbro ones, I genuinely felt they were "proper" and even liked and praised them. I'm reminded of a similar case, also involving a Dinobot: people liked PCC Grimstone well enough, then suddenly wanted "the correct colors" when Takara made the UW-EX one -- which, to be fair, really did make Hasbro's look like a (literally) pale copy. (The preference is not the issue, it's the value judgment of one being "right" and the other getting it "wrong", which leads to assumptions about not caring enough or "laziness" and other tired fandom chestnuts.)

But Blot's point here is a good one: it's not too dissimilar to the Insecticons in Dramatic Capture vs. the ones in Hasbro's Movie 40th capsule (another instance of me being fine with the former and now being tempted by the latter). The opportunity and inclinationbto have a unified approach and unified deco is something that came a bit later. Maybe this is something that'll be mitigated with the new Studio Series direction, or maybe the realities of production will just keep throwing wrenches in things.

In any case, I just plumb can't afford it, and idk if I'd be prioritizing a (gorgeous) redeco instead of newer molds/designs/releases even if I could.

But damn, Takara will just always, ALWAYS have uncanny eyedropper color matching powers. They so rarely miss.

The DC Dinobots look amazing but they're easy passes for me. I have the Hasbro releases and they're good enough. I'm not personally so much of a Dinobot fan that I need the sexiest versions of them available and so 75% of the way there works for me.

The Transformers PR Twitter they have recently made a post showing off a collection of photos of the color model sheets.
