Just a reskin? That sounds like an easy lawsuit for Nintendo. I mean, if they had made their own levels, they could maybe say it's a different game in the same genre and maybe pull a Palworld. But if it was just a beat for beat reskin of Starfox 64 just with different characters, seems like that would be an easy win for Nintendo.

Eh. I think it's probably distinct enough to be fine.

Different characters, different visuals, it's not lifted 1 to 1 from 64 - it's just Lylat Wars story wise and gameplay concept wise. Evil scientist who was banished returns and the new version of the old team has to stop him through branching paths and occasionally being jumped by his hired guns and some familiar looking bosses.

A lot of the stages feel very much like if I squint it's Star Fox. Fight though a wartorn city, fly through waterfalls to go a branching path, shoot down searchlights, Chase down train, fight final boss that is a giant floating head.

Oof! Part of me thinks that if Nintendo went after Palworld, they'd go after this. Bit then again, didn't they lose to Palworld?

I mean, I haven't seen enough to know for sure. I'm just saying that Nintendo is historically litigious.

Nintendo isn't actually THAT litigious. A lot of that is overblown, imo to take shots at Nintendo.

They're very protective of their IP, sure. And the Palworld situation is kind of it's whole thing between potentially lifted assets and very specific methods/interactions they were arguing on behalf of. It really wasn't as simple as "Nintendo sues anyone who makes a monster catching game" that some people billed it as.

Hell I just finished Coromon on Switch 2.

Most of their lawsuits boil down to being overly protective of their IP, or going after pirates/pirate adjacent emulators and roms.

This is Star Fox 64 at home. A Coromon comparison is actually pretty apt, thinking about it. It's an '-alike'.

More egregious is that a lot of reviews talk about it not being very good at even that. My fiance is the biggest Star Fox fan in my life and has been clamoring for something actually new for ages and bounced off the demo for Wild Blue Skies pretty hard.

According to her "Enemies are bullet spongey, the controls are clunky, there's not enough visibility, the ship is too fragile and the level design is unintuitive and poor." She said, and I quote, it reminds her of the Mighty Number 9 situation.

Yeah, when doing an on-rails shooter where you typically only have a small window to destroy enemies, you don't want to make them too spongy.

For me, Star Fox was one of those franchises where...I liked it well enough. It was fun enough to play every once in a while. But I don't think I really got into it until recently.

I think it came with the realization of "I like it, but I'm not likely to ever own every game in the series." Then I realized, maybe not all at once, but at some point, I actually have owned every game in the series.

Wild blue skys is the perfect example of going "This is what Nintendo WON'T DO! TRUE FANS HAVE TO!!!" Then basically either go "Oh.. Why does it suck?" or pretend that it's actually superior so they don't appear to have been wrong.

I haven't played it but between the reviews and my fiance's response to the demo I'm not inclined to give it a shot.

It's a shame, because in the wake of loving the 64 remake I was hoping to experience more in the genre.

And with this, I do believe my collection is complete...for now. I played this just enough to confirm that it was working. Past that, I don't think I'll be playing it. I was mostly just filling my collection.

Yeah, as much as I wanted to love it, I found the controls to be a major deterrent.

Somehow I just knew the moment I broke down and bought Adventures off EBay, Nintendo would put it up on Nintendo Online.

Aww, hug it! Still nice to have it physically!

Man! I look up Krystal on EBay, aside from the keychain and standee...everything is either pics and stickers, which is 90% smut...or unpainted 3D printed figures, which is 100% smut!

All I want is a decent, painted Krystal figure I can put in my gaming area. If I wanted smut, I have the internet for that!

If you have access to a 3D printer, this one seems okay...?

I'm surprised Jakks Pacific hasn't done one already, though.

That does look awesome. But I don't have a 3D printer...which is why I was wanting to find one already made and painted.

It would be nice if Nintendo would make something. I realize Star Fox toys have already come and gone and I just missed the train. But even looking for stuff on ebay, you can get toys and plush of the other characters. You can even get amiibo of Fox, Falco and Wolf. But anything of Krystal seems to be unofficial...and mostly smut.
