I ended up getting this three pack, since I found it for a pretty good deal.

The star of the show is, IMO, Batman. The first wave Batman was stuck in an awkward midway point between classic Detective Batman, Hush Batman, and Rebirth Batman. I would have preferred the Hush look, as that's my favourite comic Batman look. And while the Batman from this set isn't a perfect Hush Batman (he has the wrong kind of belt, and he's got too much padding and armour on his boots and gloves) he's still probably as close as the kids' Core line will get. That solid black bat symbol with no gold outline? Perfect.

Nightwing is always a welcome sight. There seems to be some debate over what Robin the wave one Robin is supposed to be. His general costume reflects Dick Grayson's updated Robin look from the ongoing World's Finest book, but the presence of the staff and the 90s style Robin logo put some people in mind of Tim Drake. To me? It's a clear case of splitting the difference. Mattel will likely do dedicated Dick Grayson and Tim Drake Robins in their upcoming collectors' line. This Robin for the Core series is just a generic Robin who shares enough elements across different mantel holders that he could be anyone. So with a Nightwing on board, he's firmly Tim for the time being.
Nightwing is just very solid. He's got more or less a blank body with a painted on costume, so he's not the most complex figure out there, but everything's as it should be and his belt has storage for his escrima sticks. Which is far from a given when it comes to Nightwing figures. So that's appreciated.

The final figure is Bane. Not sure what else to say... he's just... Bane. He's a very solid comic book style Bane. I will say that he's got an impressive amount of detailing on his torso with his veins, and the texture on his gloves, pants, and boots. McFarlane's strongest area as a toy company is sculpted texture. Mattel was never going to match them 1:1 on that, especially not in the kids' line, but this is far and beyond what I was expecting.

Got this new Hush-lite Batman with the Core Superman and DC Icons Wonder Woman from the old DC Direct label. Since Mattel doesn't seem to be in a rush to introduce ladies to their line quite yet.

The Final Hushening
HA! That's what YOU think! (Mattel is totally doing a HUSH styled Batman in the next few years in the collector line)

I've got no experience with Beast Kingdom's DAH series of figures. I saw Walmart started carrying some of the Batman offerings (Begins and 89) for a decent $38 a few months back. Guess nobody knew or cared, because mine marked them down to $23. And I couldn't resist an 89 Batman at that price! Might even be "good enough" for my tastes to flip my Mezco One:12 89 Batman...

Oh I know it. And I'll be there for it. That'll be "The Hushening: A New Beginning"!

I've been eying the BK stuff, if only because they have Batman Begins and Batman Forever Sonar releases out... and those are my two favourite cinematic Batsuits.

The issue is they're 8 inch scale which matches almost nothing else I have... and I don't need an excuse to start collecting another scale 😅

I’m at the point where I’m not viewing a LOT stuff as a “cohesive” collection anymore. The hyper-realism doesn’t always jive with the more stylized nature of stuff from the other companies anyway.

I just view it as a VERY good representation of the 89 Batman, and is hopefully “good enough” for me to be able to let go of the Mezco One:12 figure, which will sell for FAR more than the DAH figure and allow me to fund other things.

Images have leaked from NYCC's private showing for Mattel's upcoming DC range. Somebody done violated their NDA for some early images. Haven't been able to verify if the Wonder Woman and Supergirl Premier figures are authentic since I haven't been able to find a good source (if they haven't been deleted).

I wonder if Mattel will be "split branding" the DC Core/Premier segment going forward: Character core variants and certain villains will be attached to the "theme" of the year, while basic or introductory secondary heroes get a basic DC Core branding.

And as far as Batman goes, starting 2027 off with duelling Fraction and Absolute Batmen would be very fun!
Called it.

I'm just sad that Premier/Core reveals are likely being ignored because "it's not collector stuff". Again, the relative amount details and features Mattel is bringing to their MOTU and DC "entry range" has been DAMNED impressive this year.

But yeah, they'll probably get me on the Fraction Batman. I haven't enjoyed a month to month Bat-series in a LONG time. I don't think I've stuck with getting a book monthly since the MtMtE IDW era
