Arkham Origins does something very similar. Its clear that their relationship is tense. Alfred doesn't really believe in the cuase, but does it anyway becuase its job. Bruce is fully committed to be a lone agent of vengence and pretty much anyone else is getting in his way. Like Reeves' movie, it takes almost losing Alfred for both of them to realize the importance of each other's work and their relationship to each other. Afterwards Batman is much pleasent to everyone around him, not just Alfred.

Though to be fair, Even this series has Bruce lighten his stance and opinion on Alfred after the Gentleman Ghost episode.

So adding on to this: I recently got 'Beware the Batman' thanks to it being on sale digitally. I watched a few episodes once back when it aired originally and want to try to give it another go... and well the First episode ALSO does this. Alfred feels that Bruce needs to be protected beyond just being Batman. Bruce thinks being Batman is all the protection he needs and is still the 'I dont need help' type. Well, once again Alfred get injured by the villians and Bruce has a change of heart realizing that protecting Bruce Wayne means more then just his own protection and that he shouldn't just rush out to stop crime without more through investigations.

So it really does seem like "Bruce is too narrow focused/blinded by his mission until Alfred get injured" seems to be the current Meta for Early Batman.

I know we all been fussing over the Spooder-Man, but Amazon up and dropped all 10 episodes of season 2 of Caped Crusader. Enjoying it a bit more than season 1 now that I’ve “gotten over” some prior hang ups. I’ll probably burn through the last 3 episodes tonight, but general thoughts:
1. I still think they’ve done a really good job taking old villains in novel different directions. Not a fan of the “hi then die” appearance of a classic one, but I blame Bruce Timm. Did him dirty back in the BTAS days as well…
2. Animation In some episodes have a bit more ”pop”. I almost wonder if a few were done by a different studio or production crew
3. I caught a LOT of Easter Eggs, and I’m sure I’ve missed more.
4. Writing, in general, feels a little tighter. Almost like the production crew has a better handle on where they’re focusing on as far as demographics.
5. Still not a fan of the writing for Bruce Wayne/Batman. Despite the drip feed of material, it still feels like the character is spinning his wheels, narratively speaking.

Though, it could be that the writing comes off as “lesser” because I’ve been so spoiled by just how great the writing has been for X-Men 97.

Yeah, I just finished this season and I'd be wary of showing this one to anyone really young. It feels like they kind of upped the rating for this season compared to the first. A not-insignificant number of the deaths and moments of general violence were much more gruesome than in the first season, arguably gratuitously so.

Thanks for the update! I will watch it first then decide if they can watch it.

Yeah, I felt like the first season was mostly PG/borderline PG-13, while this one was more PG-13/borderline R. In addition to the death violence, the cussing also seemed to be upped. No F-bombs but much more frequent, casual swearing than the lesser amount in the first season.

Wasn’t sure if here was appropriate or not but…
Yesterday was the 34th Anniversary of the premiere of Batman: The Animated Series. Fox Kids hyped the series for weeks before finally airing their initial pilot on September 5th, 1992. Due to the recent release release of Batman Returns in movie theatres, Fox Kids opted to show the first part of the, in hindsight mediocre, “The Cat and The Claw”. After a few weeks as a Saturday morning staple, Fox Kids would expand it to weekday showings, where it would anchor the block through its biggest time of expansion (Despite series from Marvel and Power Rangers coming to overshadow it towards the end of its run on Fox Kids)

The universe was continued for over a decade in associated shows like Static Shock, Superman, Justice League and Batman Beyond. The final appearance of this universe was in 2024 as part of the Justice on Infinite Earths OVA series, featuring the final, posthumous, work by Kevin Conroy as Batman.

I'm working on my backlog (there's 39 series I need to get through!) so I'm going through Caped Crusader first over Adventures with Superman.

Saw ep1 Brute Force

I forgot about Thorne in s1. I know Two-Face... died (right?) but I forget about Thorne in jail.

Eddie is like a pre Joker thug. The newslady is awesome, the type you will love to hate. I love/hate her already, since I love the source character. I hope Julian Gregory comes back.

Crusader Solomon Grundy, right? Climbing up the wall made me think of the Hunchback from the Gotham Adventures comic cover. (Hunchback is my second favorite comic BTAS character that I want to jump to real comic or animated life. The first is Mr Nice of Mastermind and Perfessor Threatening Three fame. All three would be awesome.)

I figured the ending but not the car ride. I wonder why he would do that?

Ok first ep. The airplane kill was GNARLY, haha

I just saw the second episode and I saw the formula in the fridge labeled as Blockbuster, yeah.

Saw the second ep Rocket's Red Glare.

Not marking spoilers anymore?

I thought it was going to Rocket Reds from JLI. Then when I saw the costume, I thought it was Bulletman. I'm pretty happy to see that it's Roxy Rocket on the side of good. Too bad she lost her flaming red hair.

The corporation people totally looked evil, haha. Pretty by the numbers story.

I'll pretend Roxy is still alive. Her suit protected her.

Batman burning her work was a dumb move. She would have wanted it used for good.

How did the Batwing just bump into Roxy's rocket en route? Doesn't matter.

Yeah, the formula is Blockbuster, not Grundy. So Hugo Strange is dead already? There's other doctors.

Saw s2 ep3 Deep Cover

Yeeeeah, we know it's Matches Malone. Nice to see him. Story was actually old hat to those familiar with tropes but, by the end, I was really hoping to have a good ending. Sad about that.

While I like Riddler laughing a lot, I don't like him being bloodthirsty or betraying his thugs.

This weekend is “Batman Day”, so WB is rolling out a number of films for limited theatrical engagements.

The only worthwhile one, Mask of the Phantasm, will be only on Saturday (at least at my AMC). I have managed to get the evening off to go see it. Batman 89 and The Lego Batman Movie are seemingly running all weekend.

Gasp! It's Hush! Kidding, hehe

Saw s2 ep4 The Devil's Due

Pretty brutal with the killings.

Is the Mad Monk anyone in Bat media? Closest I can think of is the Astronomerwhatever person episode in BTAS where Summer Gleeson reporter (i think) was strapped to a planet in a planetarium.

I rather liked that Mad Hattie was featured a lot in the adventure. Aaand she was one of the good guys! She was stab happy with one goon. Hope she didn't kill him. Very cool that she credited Gordon in the end. She still blames the Bat for the cult but she was sorta awesome here.

Her producer lady should come back. She was cool too, though crazed at the end. I swear, the endings of these eps have something crazy happening each time.

Edit- oh I forgot about Linton Midnite! Batman cockblocked him when he was about to have an MMF threesome, haha. How progressive.

The Mad Monk (or just “Monk”) is an EARLY Golden Age Batman villain. As in, one of the first costumed villains he ever fought. They took some liberties here, and added in some of the later mythology about the bat-demon, Barbatos. The only reason I recognized him was because I had read the Golden Age Omnibus last year. And even then, the show took some stylistic liberties by adding more of the bat symbolism.

The Bar-BAT-os name takes the cake, haha

Saw S2 ep5 The Spectral Hand.

I loved it! I knew where the story was going but I still loved it. Just a few bits kept it from being perfect for me.

The morgue drivers were dead. They were innocent and didn't have to die. Bruce did check the pulse of one but didn't say anything SOOOO they could still be alive... but, y'know, probably dead. Were their deaths suppose to make it ambiguous that Corrigan was killing people? To create terror?

The neck breaking of the bodyguard. He probably wasn't innocent but the pattern of the other three deaths were... circumstantial. First guy was a heart problem. Second guy was hit by a vehicle. Third guy fell on a sharp star. They died because of fear and running away but Corrigan didn't lay a finger on them. But the bodyguard, nope. Corrigan broke his neck. It would have been more thematic if all his kills were... circumstantial.

Also, he wasn't out to kill Batman when he made the sign fall. I'm trying to recall but Corrigan didn't fight Batman when he was trying to kill Barbara (love that Onomatopeaspelling assassination ep).

I liked the major bit with Barbara being defiant in front of death before Corrigan explained himself. That's a given. But I love the minor bit about the thug in prison just reading the police officer and realizing that they just killed Corrigan. If they killed a cop, they'll kill any of them and all that. Unexpected insightful bit. Loved that.

Anyhow, great ep! Loved it!
