A small thoughts thread: what are you playing and how is it going?

The better bet than eBay is Console5, a site that specializes in such kits and parts. The fact that it's a local Michigan company is a nice bonus! I've replaced all the electrolytic capacitors on the main board as of last night. Still need to clean off the flux and check my work before I test it. Have a replacement regulator, but I won't install that until after I verify the caps since I need to cover them with the heatsink to position it accurately. Also thoroughly cleaned all the connectors (didn't seem to need it, but best to be thorough) and replaced the fuse (which was fine, until I slipped while checking the regulator and blew it). And have a new power supply to try in case that's the issue.

If it still won't boot after all that, I can only assume either one of the main chips is shot or the sound module has an issue. I really don't know of any way of diagnosing those unless I can at least get a flash cart to boot so I can use the burn-in cartridge ROM. Supposedly those can still work even if the CPU is shot, so the fact that I couldn't get that to boot either at least has me hopeful it could be something less catastrophic.
It sounds like you have everything in hand! I hope that you can get it up and running soon! I haven't tested mine in forever. Maybe I should break that out and see if it still works.

What am I playing and how's it going. Hmm...

Final Fantasy XIV

I mostly just do my daily cactpots. My big play day is on Sunday evenings when I play with my friend. Right now I'm just passing time until my free trial on Switch 2 expires to make sure auto renew is set up right.

Pokopia

I was just doing dailies to build up money for when the DLC hit. Now that it's hit, I'm in the whole "I should have been in bed an hour ago" mode

Splatoon Raiders

Game is beat. Main weapon is upgraded to Max. Just grinding out levels now.

Cyberpunk 2077

I just recently transferred my save data from PS5 to Switch 2. I kinda miss miss analog triggers when it comes to driving...but it's worth the pain. Hug Sony!

Well, I've exhausted everything I can try immediately, and my SNES is still dead. I have a replacement sound module on the way since it was cheap and a possible cause, so I'll see how that goes next week. If that doesn't work, I guess my only options are to either look into repair shops or buy a CPU and hope that's the issue. And that I can still manage soldering such a chip. It's been a good 20 years since I've done that...

Sorry that it's not an easy fix. Maybe go find a yellow donor for the board if that doesn't work?

So this weekend I had a 7-hour drive, and I didn't want to be away from the kids, so I took all three of them with me since this is the last weekend before school starts. Unfortunately, both Switches needed to be charged, and they had left both of my GBA SPs on, so they were both dead. I didn't want to go hunting for my DS or 3DS, as my office is a wreck, so I just grabbed my old Regular Gameboy. I grabbed a case for it and two games, Tetris and Super Mario Land 2. I tested both games before I left the house, but once we got on the road SML2 stopped working, and they didn't want to play Tetris. Also, the battery connector on the bottom left had some corrosion on it and the battery wouldn't always connect to it. Is there a fix for that or should I just order a replacement part?

I actually keep forgetting to post a livestream in the other thread with Nytetrayn. Maybe I can get more viewers there.

Like for this

I found the second melody! And I almost left the room without solving the puzzle! I tried brute forcing it and turns out it was working! If I had left, I would have to do the climb all over again!

At the end of the video, I was at a gauntlet. I had already beaten the one of the two bosses but got killed just when I was about to heal! I could have won that! Ugh!

Haha, I'm pathetic! I was getting frustrated that I couldn't beat the gauntlet of enemies from the last update that I cheesed it! I had an NPC help me during the fight so, for the boss parts of the fight, I hid in a spot the boss couldn't reach and let the NPC beat them, haha

But with the extra life I found, I was able to beat two other bosses I couldn't beat before.

And I STILL can't find the double jump! It might be in one of the gauntlet fights i haven't beaten.

I just finished Pragmata. I'm still processing.

It ripped my hugging heart out. Diana is on her way to Earth In a cargo shuttle. Pretty sure she'll be okay, for as long as her charge lasts. Hughe was terminally ill because of the dead filiment and he used his space suit's power core to power the shuttle. He's pretty much boned. Humanity is saved...at least for now. It just...dang! I'm going to have to process this.

wonko the sane?

You may test that assumption at your convinience.

I've been playing diablo 2 resurrected since I bought it the other day. I was fighting the first miniboss in the cathedral, and when I was done I was staring at my health pool and wondering what status ailment would leave it completely black.

Turns out the status ailment was "death" and I was literally on 1 pixel of health. Slogged some brews and got right back to work. Those demons won't kill themselves, after all.

I'm so dumb! I was failing the Mount Fay climb cuz I was going to the right instead of the left! But I finally have the dang double jump! Woo!

I spent 1.5 hours looking for the single missing spool in Silksong that I had to give up. Even with the list of locations, I just couldn't figure out which I'm missing. Then during a drive, I realized I didn't check the hidden wall in the FIRST listed area. Uuuuugh

Metal Gear Solid 4 for the first time ever on Switch 2, but I'm not sure if I'm playing that or finally snapped and am actually in a psychosis playing Call of Duty.

I spent 2 hours just fighting the Act 2 final boss, because I nerfed myself (no healing, no tools) to see the Twisted Bud cursed ending. I can only get hit 4 or 3 times before dying so... ugh!

Just finished Mermaid Mask. It's an indie puzzle/mystery game, and sequel to Tangle Tower. Wonderful drawn animations, voice acting, fun chars, and jokes. I'm glad I replayed Tangle Tower right before, there were some ties b/t the two. It's been awhile since I really got sucked into a mystery game. I also like that there's concept art/behind the scenes stuff that unlocks after you beat the game.

I wasn't sure where else to put this since it involves multiple games from multiple systems. I just came back from Gamestop.

I cancelled my pre-order for Castlevania for PS5. I have it pre-ordered for Switch 2 and I have no need to give Sony any more of my money than I have to.

I took that money and put the minimum down for Final Fantasy VII Revelations, the $99.99 version that comes with a soundtrack, art book and steel book. I pretty much had to get that for PS5 since I just don't have the hard drive space on my Switch 2. BUT THIS IS THE LAST TIME, SONY!

I also took what was left and put down a pre-order for Ocarina of Time remake.

So now I have preordered...

Wolverine digital (PS5)...and honestly, if they made it the least bit easier, I would've cancelled that.

Castlevania digital (Switch 2)

Ocarina of Time physical (Switch 2 duh)

Final Fantasy VII Revelation "Physical" (PS5)

Oh, I'm totally waiting for Wolverine and Castlevania!

But I highly doubt we'll get a physical copy of Wolverine on Sept 15 where I'm from, ugh. Will see.

I'm at Act 3 of Silksong! I'll finish it soon, whew.

I'm still in Act 3 of Silksong but I got to part where I had to fight an old reliable friend. I checked up about him after and, dang, the fans make the most heartbreaking of animations.

The Hollow Knight fans are really a unique kind of breed to make such moving masterpieces, geez.

I finished Silksong!!!!! It took me 109.5 hours! This is best ending too, with the extra bosses.

My fingers hurt, haha. I haven't gotten all the mementos. Don't know if I want to do the flea games or the racing again to complete it. Might complete the Hunter's Journal tho. Before Sea of Sorrow DLC.

From page 5 of this thread, I finished Hollow Knight after 65 hours but I didn't do the Pantheon, Path of Pain or the Mushroom quest.

After what feels like an eternity, I finished Octopath Traveler Zero about a week ago. Well, except for the ultra boss, two amity bonds, and treasures. Not sure if I feel like 100% completion, I'm satisfied w/ the two endings.

Final Fantasy Resonance comes out tomorrow... to fill the void, I got The Witch's Bakery digitally. Cute little baking game but also healing hearts. Deals with tough subject matter but nothing too bad. There was one major inconsistency w/ the dialogue not reflecting a choices I made earlier, but it's not too big of a deal. One of the fun parts are books and games you can interact with during down time, there's a lot of references to actual media. Lots of good lore building and cute characters.
