A Long Time Ago In a Galaxy Far, Far Away.... - Star Wars General Discussion

Saw Mandalorian yesterday. While it was an ok random Mando adventure, it was not worthy a trip to theater. There were quite a few moments, when I wanted to fast forward a scene, because it was dragging so much. Sigourney Weaver sleepwalks through her role, never once changing her monotone delivery. The action was nice, especially opening assault on the Imperial remnants. Also Shakari theme is fantastic:

All in all, to paraphrase a meme, "this whole movie could have been a Disney+ mini series!!". It was a bad idea to put it in theater, just like it was a bad idea to do it with Clone Wars in 2008. Funny, that both time Filloni is involved. As for why this movie is not breaking the box office, I think this might be the reason:

That for someone who's not a fan of this particular corner of Star Wars lore, it's just a bunch of random stuff happening on screen. At the same time, my theater was about 80% full, so what do I know.

A friend got tickets Friday for my birthday, and had a lady not shown up right before the start it would have been a private showing, no one else was in the theater at all. Very weird. That has happened to me once before, back in the 80's as a kid, with Harry and the Hendersons. I actually liked it, but had the weird epiphany that you can buy a plastic Mandalorian helmet, and a nerf gun. So for eye safety, one bit of merchandising defends against the other.

I did feel sorry for Grogu, he's short which probably made climbing out of the plot holes rather difficult, but I did like the movie!

I enjoyed it very much. But it's also hard to justify repeat viewing given how MUCH of this I can watch at home. Which might be why the box office dropped like a rock.

Saw the Mandalorian and Grogu this past weekend. Possibly the first movie I've bothered to go to a theater for in five years.

I liked it. Would I *rather* it had been a series? Probably. But that wasn't what they gave us.

My only fear is that it could be the last time we see these characters. I want more.
