I'm as big a fan of clear plastic as you'll find, breakage worries and all. But this capsule is about as underwhelming as it gets, which is a real shame after bangers like the Toxitron Collection and the Star Raiders.
There's just such nothing to it. Grab an Op and Megs, because Op and Megs...
Huh. That Megatron looks good, Cybertronic looks okay, but Cybertread kind of looks less good because there's too much linework highlighting too much greeble all close together. also it's probably just the picture but maybe a lighter or tealer blue might be nice.
Still interesting, but still...
That's a very arresting robot mode, what a presence.
The main thing keeping me from getting it (I mean aside from the obvious) is the soft plastic. I am currently pretty done with that stuff.
The marketing has been more than a little weak, and right as the thing came out there was a flood of reviews and thinkpieces about how it committed the cardinal sin of not being epic and grand.
Like I get that this is "this could've been an email episode: the movie", but run through the...
These look very nice (it's neat that the nameplates are also in their colors) but there's just too much going on right now. If these hang around a bit, maybe then. They might climb up in priority depending on how good they look in better pictures, but the line is getting pretty long as it is.
It's less that and more a lack of recollection of this specific complaint being a thing, let alone widespread enough to casually bring up 20 years later as if we'd all heard of it plenty at the time. This isn't "yeah, this is going over with the fandom like those truck flames on 2007 OP".
I...
They do seem to largely tread the same territory.
Some differences I'm seeing are no clear yellow on anyone; it's all a nicely colored opaque or painted plastic for these. Honestly that's my favorite part. I generally liked the clear yellow, but I was a bit surprised that DCS didn't go this...
Just after Prowl out of these. The Insecticons are surprisingly nice, if a little bland (but Kickback's add-ons look pretty cool in that gray), but the Dramatic Capture Set has me covered. (But then Gizmoboy got me looking at them more closely, and I'm in danger suddenly.)
I'm not doing the...
I recently stumbled upon these (well, the Snake Eyes). Are these based on anything specific? A cancelled/unmade 90s concept, or something from the newer comics?
It's kind of like when they got in bed with NFTs right around the time that was collapsing. Even Disney backed off their similar AI arrangement.
This bubble is taking longer to finally burst though, so idk.
I would just love to see the box they draw lots from or the wheel they spin to assign versions to characters. Partly out of excitement to see how they'll keep it going. Scourge the Ghost Pirate Ship, Shockwave the Spinosaurus. Blitzwing the Poolmobile? Grimlock the Bullet Train?
whatever it is...
Once upon a time someone would've had Awesome Inside Sources and gone He Tell Me that this was us finally getting a G1 remake that looks like the characters stepped right out of the show, with modern articulation and accessories and Optimus would finally have a Matrix and there would be a Mākits...
To be fair, we likewise don't know how much either side is "raking in". There's every reason for the arrangement to be slanted in favor of the IP owner, and if they didn't set it up that way, that's on them.
But the track record of "making ancillary stuff based on our IP" is not exactly in...
And this does have the long, gator-y snout I've seen Spinos (okay, Scorn) depicted with, as opposed to the more snubby snout I've seen dimetros (okay, Sling) depicted with.
It's out ?! I must have that Kiss Players Rodimus. And perhaps paint at least the engines/pipes silver. Odd choice to go with a blah gray on all those parts.
(Also, a yellow windshield might have been nicely evocative of the G1 spoiler as well as suggestive of chest flames in robot mode. But...
I really hope this is something that complements Blokees and the like rather than competing directly with it. Hasbro struck a great balance here, with multiple companies (Auldey, Blokees, Yolopark) paying them to create non-transforming poseable versions of various characters so that Hasbro...
That's about my experience too, yes. Paid a little extry for the set when it was first out and already scarce, and then was mystified at the price continuing to climb through and after the pandemic. And then Lancer showed up and oh, okay, they're doing this.
I'm always glad for a reissue of a...
