Well, went ahead and got these, and now the clock is reset on a possible new ticking time bomb, or (now) a total nothingburger.
(The smokestacks are in accessory storage.)
There's still just enough vehicle mode clearance, but the tires are noticeably less thick. They fit pretty well though...
No, there's a variant that's yellow (not gold) with a black stripe down part of the side. Kinda has a Yellow Tracks vibe because of how solid the color is. I do wonder how the spots can be worked in.
I'd rather it be worked into the anything-goes-anyway main Generations line. If they want to make Timelines the Generations-budget Somehow Kreon Warriors Returned mashup of "these same few guys forever" plus "different (Earth) time periods and concepts", let the more fun stuff get made where...
I welcome this, if only because it's been fun to see the team raise up something that was Too Deep A Cut and then just flat out make it anyway. This would be a fun next thing on the list.
I suspect, if this doesn't get made, it may be because of ownership questions about the designs or...
Thrust seems workable as a Deluxe, yeah. Throw in a Thrustinator-wasp from the finale, a smoke-trail/burning-rubber stand, maybe a blast effect.
Jetstorm will have to be an approximation, but I think it could work with a new from-scratch take that hides most of the jet stuff in the upper body...
They did say as the price point was being phased out that they were open to pack-ins and multipacks in the future, and we've seen both (the Frumble mold was packed in with Soundwave; Ramhorn seems comparable to Steeljaw and was packed in with Perceptor; these combiner packs).
I'd like more...
I would love a weird type of subline like this. Non-Sunbow characters or G1 characters introduced much later, done up in the show's style. Non-Bayverse characters done up in live-action movie style.
Wait a minute, this is just how they used to do the latter redeco waves of older toylines. Oh...
That's a pretty neat color scheme and this mold wears it well. But it reminds me a bit of the transforming gray Hulk figure they did (Crossovers I think).
I'm wondering what the plan was for Leader class Nexus. Was he going to be a frame with some token bits for an individual altmode (sort of like he has now)? Are the frames justifiable sold by themselves as Leader class, based on parts count and complexity? Even in my head this seems odd, but at...
The bike design is very cool, but what's really pleasantly scratching the right spots in my brain is the entire aesthetic of the old-magazine ad. I readily admit it's nostalgia, but there's something pleasant about a straightforward layout and a lengthy blurb that tries to be informative and...
It's certainly a problem from our perspective, but at this point in the toy industry's history (amid an even more intense competition with digital entertainment), it might just be how business is done and how they've optimized it.
None of this is precluded by doing Nexus Prime as one Commander and four Deluxes in AOTP (or three Deluxes, one Voyager, whatever) and putting the Aerialbots or Combaticons in the next line that is doubtlessly going to exist. Or, hell, to keep attention longer (and maybe entice purchases along...
