    Traitor Watch - The 45 & 47 Thread

A lot of people have. I think a quote from Deltarune sums up the self-proclaimed never-Trumpers pretty well: "I, Mr. Society, am far too intelligent to ever bow down to such a tyrant! Unless he asks me. He's very scary, you see." I mean, sure, some do still exist. Whoever's running that X...

    Sonic The Hedgehog

Had a thought today: There are all kinds of fan projects out there, including an attempted remake of Sonic 06 from people who are convinced there's something of value buried under all of the everything. Is anyone trying to remake Sonic Adventure on the same platform? Not just to fix what the PC...

    P&R Funnies!

I think of the Bible quote about there being no balm there, whatever that means. Which isn't a great connotation, but Wikipedia tells me it's a reference to the plant "balm of Gilead" and more akin to describing a famine by saying Wisconsin is out of cheese. Nothing about the place itself...

    P&R Funnies!

Bain Capital is named after a person, Oracle is older than the majority of fictional cyberpunk dystopia companies, and Xe hasn't been named Blackwater in almost 20 years. And the only reason I'd find "Citizen" or "Gilead" scary (or "Oracle" for that matter? It's literally the alias of one of...

I don't think it's that black and white. Expecting the populate make sacrifices for what one perceives to be the greater good isn't inherently bad just because bad people are currently doing it. "I can offer nothing but blood, toil, tears and sweat" sound like the words of a fascist out of...

We live in a capitalist dystopia

I wonder if any adaptations bring this up. It could be an interesting angle to have Bob turn out to be one of the few people alive at the time to recognize that as the exploitative practice it was and refuse to subject his own kids to it, and that's a big part of why his family was so poor. And...

We live in a capitalist dystopia

"Family planning" didn't really exist back then, for a number of reasons. And for the average person, it didn't need to, since managing to have that many kids survive past infancy would have been a miracle, albeit an inconvenient one if the parents weren't rich.

We live in a capitalist dystopia

Feel free to break it down for us, since I'm not planning on hunting down the original post on X to wade through dozens of replies. Nova's probably right, at least; the five-day work week wasn't established as the norm until the 20th century. And given that Scrooge was a moneylender, it wouldn't...

Trump can barely commit to doing the things he actually wants to do most of the time, though, and this sounds like just a talking point to give the public something to gush over and then hopefully forget about.

We all knew Trump would be messing with the Epstein files, but I had only considered what he would be removing. Adding things to it hadn't even crossed my mind, and seeing as we're living in the age of deepfakes, it's very lucky they were dumb and lazy enough to do this instead.

Who's trying to break the internet today?

I've always assumed there was a reason none of the various forks gained any traction, despite Firefox's many, many missteps. Maybe they lock you out of using Firefox Sync? Which is kind of a deal breaker as a person with more than one internet-capable device.

Who's trying to break the internet today?

There is no way to use them ethically. That's the thing. The only reason they exist is because companies were allowed to get away with intellectual property plunder on an industrial scale. The dataset is irreparably tainted.

Who's trying to break the internet today?

Still. The more time passes, the more I'm convinced that "You either die a hero or live long enough to become the villain" is an absolute truth of the universe.

    AI don't trust techbros

Incidentally, the AI world has already co-opted the term "vibe coding"—you know, the thing people started saying in mockery—as a marketing term. Expect to see them attempt to do the same with "slop" any day now.

I imagine H. R. Giger wasn't counting on everyone who watched Alien being phallophobic either. I think it's something akin to why the Eyes Do Not Belong There trope works so well, or why the giant hand creatures in Elden Ring are so creepy: we're wired to find something inherently wrong about a...

    Sonic The Hedgehog

I only recently became aware that another Sonic game came out just this past month, a sort of Mario Party meets Fall Guys? People don't like it very much. And thus, once again balance is restored to the universe.
