    Star Trek General Discussion

They could always do a comedy movie where Weyoun and Brunt go on a series of misadventures after getting knocked into the 22nd Century during a transporter accident.

    Harris-Walz / Dems

Granted, I'm not so sure how effective removing party affiliation would be from the ballots given the current environment, but everything else I totally agree with. Also have friggin spending limits on campaigns. Don't let people with huge bankrolls buy up all the airtime.(that would require...

The Twit destroying Twitter is a Twaitor

Well, the original Twitter investors got some money out of him, so we know it's possible. Just gotta find the right angle.

Who's trying to break the internet today?

Eh the whole pay for access to certain sites was always a worst case scenario. Granted ISPs would LOVE to be able to do that, but the PR nightmare that would result keeps them from doing it. The reality is they abuse the lack of net neutrality in a more subtle way. Comcast likes to throttle...

    Traitor Watch - The 45 & 47 Thread

Never underestimate the human ability to generate more stupid. It's like a hydra, the more you eliminate, the more that crops up.

Selling property doesn't require a business license, so he's probably able to do that. He'd likely have to go through a third party agent, though.

    Hollywood is on Strike

Well, yes, especially on the management side, but there are levels. Unions have more power in some industries than they do in others and gaming (software in general, really) tends to be towards the minimal end when it comes union power.

    Hollywood is on Strike

The only problem I have with this is that it can cause issues with legitimate uses of AI voice synth in games. Say I'm developing a game that heavily features procedural generation, right down to place/character names and quests. There's no way in the world I could pull that off with a voice...

    Hollywood is on Strike

My fear is that it's too late and I can easily see the executives in the gaming industry simply saying 'we don't need you anymore' to SAG-AFTRA members. The industry is notoriously anti-union as it stands, after all.

    Starfield: bethesda's newest offering.

Eh, I kinda went full on Linux a couple of years ago. That would require me to either boot back into Windows( I do still have it on a second SSD, just in case) or run it over the cloud. Too much hassle getting those set up for one game from a studio who's previous work has been kinda meh for me.

Nah, we're beyond that now. It will all be Siri level text to speech, either that or every game's dialog will be rendered in Animal Crossing speak.

    Anti-Semitism

It's not that kind of crucifixion. It's one of Japanese Santa's kinks. He's into some weird stuff.

    Starfield: bethesda's newest offering.

I do want to try it. Main thing keeping me from playing it, outside of budget concerns, is that all the other Bethesda open world games looked right up my alley, but never were able to hook me for some reason.

So I am making a video game.....

Yep. The trust is gone. Gonna be awhile before it can be rebuilt. Funny thing is the Unreal Engine's current revenue model was put in place specifically to compete with Unity in the indie market back in the mid 2010's. Unity goes and decided to make their royalty model WAY WORSE than...

Climate change (because it's still political for some reason)

Well, he's not wrong, in a sense. People don't die as often to hurricanes, flooding and tornadoes as they used to despite those things happening more frequently and severely. It's a STUPID take on the problem, but it is a take. We still have to do all the repairs and cleanup after the storms...

Climate change (because it's still political for some reason)

I seem to remember a climate change map suggesting that changes in temperature and rainfall patterns would actually increase the arable land in Canada. One of the few areas that would benefit from said changes. Screws up agriculture pretty much everywhere else, though.

The Twit destroying Twitter is a Twaitor

Using Twitter to show your art is about exposure. If I had a game project far enough along and I was proud enough about, you bet I would be posting screenshots and concept art in places beyond the likes of Itch.io.

With the UAW also on strike, we could be getting closer to a general strike. Just need a couple more industries to enter the fray.

    Florida, Florida, Florida

So a 16 year old can be forced to work the midnight shift but they want to repeal the 26th amendment to keep 18 year olds from voting... They don't want to take us back to the 1950's, they want to take us back to the 1850's.

    Traitor Watch - The 45 & 47 Thread

Eh, That sort of time-travel wouldn't allow for effective immortality, though. A combination of telomere restoration and nano-tech cellular repair might. If you can somehow manipulate spacetime to that kind of degree, you can likely figure out a way to rebuild telomeres and develop advanced...
