Climate change (because it's still political for some reason)

Just to be clear, there is literal flooding in West Virginia going on right now and it is the result of climate change. Just not from rising ocean levels directly. And I'm pretty sure if the ocean level rises anywhere enough to affect houses, we're already doomed.

Oh right, I forgot to provide context for this because I'm used to literally all of my political news having come from here in the first place.

    Police behaving badly

In today's "trash taking itself out" news, an entire police department quits after a black woman was hired as town manager.

Or nationalized. Any civilized country would just nationalize any industry that demonstrates it can't be trusted to serve the public fairly.

The same is true of all things, by the way.

Does anyone still make headphones like these?

For some perspective, one of the uncomfortable pair I still have are a Sennheiser HD202 I found at a rummage sale. They're OK for about five minutes, at which point the room feels about 20 degrees hotter than it really is. I must be part elephant; I shed all my excess body heat through my...

Does anyone still make headphones like these?

A long time ago, my boss bought me a Sennheiser headset to use for conference calls at my work-from-home job. Specifically, these jobbies. (EDIT: here's a picture) They have been, hands down, the best headphones I've ever owned for any purpose, and half the reason I know this is that...

UK politics thread – meet the new boss, same as the old boss

Just goes to show that unions are a necessary evil, something that a truly progressive party should be trying to make obsolete with sweeping labor reform legislation rather than prop up.

Even if Trump abolishes term limits, he's gotta die someday. And it'll probably be someday soon. I can see DeSantis being willing to wait his turn.

There is one possible upside to continuing to drag our feet on this: If Trump continues to believe running is the only way to avoid prison (or worse), he'll have no choice but to run in 2024, even if he loses the primary to DeSantis. And he'll go hard. Hard enough that even if public sentiment...

The US Supreme Court and its decisions

Also, the Republican mainstream never dreamed that they could get away with just telling everyone flat-out "We just want the world to burn and don't care who knows it" and still get votes until Trump did it out of a sheer inability to keep up a façade in the first place. People who have to hide...

Climate change (because it's still political for some reason)

Would we, really? There's evidence that Big Oil has been behind the vilification of nuclear power, but I haven't heard anything about them suppressing R&D on batteries, which are a big step that still needs to be taken before EVs can be sustainably produced and economically competitive. What we...

    P&R Funnies!

Yeah, it's not even so much that he wants power; he just hates losing. Arguably the worst thing he ever did with the power he had was block other, more responsible people from having it instead.

Tonight's hearing was pretty anticlimactic. They kept pushing the idea of "dereliction of duty", which, no matter what you might think about it, is a lot of steps down from "treason". It's almost like they're trying to send a message to the DOJ that well, actually, what he did really isn't worth...

The ongoing fight against lootboxes, pay-to-win, and other such BS

Oh hey, looks like the UK is threatening to join the fun if (read: "when") the industry doesn't start policing itself. So that's one to keep an eye on as well.

I wonder how that stacks up to membership of the other parties. I could see the UK just being full of officially-nonpartisan people. In the US, you have to belong to a party to vote in most states' primaries (Ohio being one of the exceptions), so there's incentive to sign up just to participate...

Also, they were a pretty small industry in those days and didn't have nearly the lobbying power that they do now. Even if they don't have the clout to buy politicians' votes and kill legislation, they're probably convinced that they can.
