I don't think this is necessarily a Studio Series release but I didn't know where else to put it...
SS Devastation Prime is getting a three pack release. Three of the same mould. To show the evolution of the design process. Grey prototype, unpainted test shot prototype, finished product.
They kind of wrote themselves into a corner with Zeo where Zordon claimed the Zeo Crystal that provided their powers was a source of perpetual energy that would only get more powerful. The Zeo powers in theory could have just been what they had forever.
And they didn't even try to say they got...
I think it was just "Megaton" but sci-fi'd up with "tron" (which was released two years previously).
"Megaton" was probably floating in the lexicon because of the nuclear scare thing, but like... I wouldn't say the Cold War stuff really comes through in G1? Arguably the themes G1 did have...
That's another reason why I love the DNA upgrade kit for the Legacy figure. It gives you a new, bigger blade. You can still use the old, smaller one, however, to pull off the "two swords as the Blades of Time" look.
I think that's a really good point. And kind of gets into a wider societal issue... but I'll keep it limited to Transformers.
I think "hey I didn't like that, it's not my cup of tea" is a very valid take. Sometimes you just don't like a thing. You can articulate your rationale if you dive into...
I wasn't sure how to classify Always a Chance. You're right, it's shown that using the MM powers are dangerous, but it does have a tinge of that nostalgic element that the franchise would only lean into more and more as seasons wore on.
It's also funny because Adam and Carlos did know each...
I'm not certain about that. Outside of "two sides" nothing in G1 really seems overly Cold War-ish.
The main IRL political inspiration seems to be the 70s oil crisis inspiring the "Cybertron is out of power and we need to find a new source of it somewhere" plot, but the deeper political dynamics...
It's kind of an early case of fandom nostalgia 😆
Early Power Rangers (I'm going to say... up until Lost Galaxy when they started doing annual team ups between the current and previous team) was very focused on pushing the new thing.
When the White Ranger powers replaced the Green Ranger...
BM tried but I'd argue it failed.
And you know what? Seeing car and jet people punch each other is kind of important. It's the foundational imagery of the first show's first season's title sequence 😛
Conflict is baked into this franchise.
"Autobots wage their battle to destroy the evil forces...
I think they'll get to as many as they can. The problem is that under this new scheme the torso is always a Commander class. And there's only one of those a year. In CW and PotP the torsos were Voyagers, which made them much easier to get out en masse.
Ares' opening was less than Legacy's and even less than Morbius. It's still sitting under $150 million on a $180 million budget (low estimate). Compared even to Legacy... which was a disappointment for Disney... Ares looks not great!
But yeah... I do agree with you. People will glom onto...
All I'm gonna say is that no one was bemoaning the box office as an archaic, inaccurate reflection of a movie's quality and cultural impact when Tron: Ares bombed 😛
So over in the Energon Universe thread, with the news of SkyBound's run being looked at for an "adult oriented animated series" there was talk about how the franchise in trying to be mature can come off as adolescent instead and how ultimately this is a franchise meant to sell toys to kids, so...
