I happen to love repurposing other figures and transformable robots as Transformers. For me, it's not a "need" per se, just a want. Like, I have this thing on preorder:

I think that this set is okay. Definitely not something that I need, and the deco is just kinda meh. I'm also not ride or die for Target, so I'm gonna let this one just pass on by.
I don't quite see/understand what the "dog" is supposed to be in alt mode. Since it isn't really a cassette, is it just supposed to be a tablet or something?

Cool little site; not sure if I ever visited that one. I guess the Beast Machines Area never made it past the "Under Construction" phase! And it is kind of quaint to see references to the Movie at a time when there was only one Movie.
Edit: I wonder if that Transmetal Megatron is still for...
100% this! I miss the "big reveal" of seeing what the robot mode looks like after transformation. And I know that images in both modes are generally shown on the packaging. It's just that it made that first transformation into robot mode more exciting and rewarding.
Yeah, like Deathy, I had enough by the time Predaking came around. Every now and then I think about getting him but then I'm like, "nah." I still like Devastator in combined mode though, and I think that the recent Stunticons / Menasor are mostly good (but don't get me started on Breakdown...).
Beast Machines was a great series that took a lot of chances. Not all of them worked, but I'm glad that Hasbro took the shot. Also, it cannot be overstated how impactful the return of vehicles was! I was in the screening room at Botcon '99 when we were treated to the first look at the show...
