I liked it, but I'm not sure how involved Inafune was. I think the game version was poised to be a little different.

It's oldschool. (Via TFArchive) Also, the toy versions are a bit longer, and as such arguably more unwieldy than the animation models, so keeping them that way when not in use probably made sense at the time.
