Kind of switching gears, but this does seem like a thread for random thoughts and asides...
It bothered me how IDW ended up retconning every Prime between the Thirteen and Optimus as being evil in some way.
Nova/Nemesis Prime was interesting because he was a Matrix bearer gone bad. It raised...
He's not only necessary if you want a full collection of IDW designs, he's the only "comics" style Sentinel ever made, by Hasbro or any 3P outfit.
It's why I'd like to see them do another take on that design with Siege Astrotrain. They'd really just need a new head.
Cyberworld seems more of a departure from the "Evergreen" look than anything in a good while.
The key thing is, though, that Hasbro and the brand are in very different places today than they were when the UT was formed.
Yes, Hasbro's brand teams are full of passionate, talented artists...
Yeah. Heck, even newer figures. TR Sentinel Prime goes for $65-$90 these days. I love that toy, but that price is way too high.
The aftermarket is a cruel mistress, so I'm all for Hasbro revisiting designs with newer toys even if the old ones don't "need" an update.
I was actually thinking...
That's what I keep coming back to. There are plenty of younger collectors and fans out there happy to have accessible and affordable versions of these characters. If Hasbro doing this means they have more chances to get designs they want without having to deal with the predatory after-market for...
The WoW fan in me appreciated that and wish they'd have kept that as his Western name.
I have no idea, but here are my best guesses.
"Leozak" was probably seen as a more "concise" spelling of "Leozack." Sounds the same, but it's one less letter and someone may have thought it looked tidier...
Two things-
First of all, no "I'm not going going to get the new thing" doesn't mean "this shouldn't exist for anyone else" but... like... this was the comment that kicked off this part of the conversation.
Bolded emphasis is mine. And this is the comment that The Predaking was agreeing with...
Not sure about that. Legacy Cybertron Override, Starscream, and Hot Shot are pretty great and all improve on the originals in some way.
And a hot take... Legacy Animated Prime is better than his Animated Voyager figure. No dumb waist gimmick, he loses the turtleneck look by removing the mask...
I find it amusing that the first hard continuity reset was only a reset here. RiD was presented as an all new continuity but in Japan it's part of the same mega continuity... somehow... right down to Fire Convoy being a different character from Optimus Prime.
And then when Japan did get on...
Transformers never had a unified continuity. From "go" the Marvel comics and Sunbow cartoon were irreconcilable.
Trying to synthesize a "unified" continuity is nothing new earlier. Beast Wars picked bits from Marvel and Sunbow G1 freely to craft its backstory, and some of the earliest fan...
Hasbro's stickers packed with Gen Selects Galvatron and Cyclonus are different from the Prime Wars stickers, but somehow just as bad in new and exciting ways.
Yes and it's awesome.
One reason I love Skybound's take is because despite being the most G1 G1's been since G1... it's refreshing. For that reason!
Everyone else tries to do G1 But Different. By just being so shamelessly G1 though, Skybound comes off as refreshing. Like... it's been so long...
Hasbro stickers are pretty bad. ToyHax stickers can be a bit more forgiving. Really it just depends on the type of sticker and where, but on the whole it's a more forgiving experience than Hasbro's stickers forged from pure anti-fun.
