The DJD were basically reddit schmucks who worshipped a dude after reading one manifesto.
The funny thing is that I'm pretty sure that was by design. Roberts had Megatron utterly decimate the DJD, both physically and verbally, painting them as fanatics and losers who let an ideology overwrite...
The thing is... well... let's be honest. Actually building a realistic world where you'd have multiple religions, stories, and myths that don't all line up was never the point.
Back in the 80s Hasbro had no idea what this thing they had was, and probably didn't care that Marvel and Sunbow each...
It's one thing if someone sat down to intentionally create a muddy mythology to mirror IRL. This has happened before. World of Warcraft seeded the overworld with books you could read that gave contradictory info on myths, origins, etc... to mirror the idea that there are alternate takes and some...
So I've been enjoying Cyberworld, and I decided to pick up Optimus and Megatron. They're fun budget toys! But Optimus in particular looked like he needed a little bit extra in the deco department. Paint has never been my strong suit, and I'm not brave enough to tackle his leg and hip details...
Rodimus originally filled a narrative role very much in line with Jewish messianic prophecy whereby the Messiah will come at some point in the future.
Optimus getting turned into the Thirteenth supplanted that with a Christian re-interpretation of this, that the Messiah has already come and...
It all depends on how you tell it. I don't mind the idea that Cybertronians would look around and the varied nature of their species and that myths would crop up, maybe about historical figures, to give context to these different groups and types. We humans have been doing that as long as we've...
IDW1 had The Guiding Hand, the Knights of Cybertron, and then the Thirteen. Kind of fitting in a meta way that IDW's initial deep lore backstory was as haphazardly put together as the Thirteen were as a concept.
The issue is that the Thirteen were developed in a slapdash manner. A lot of the roster was plucked from previous fiction (oh Prima is the first Matrix bearer in Marvel? Let's use him. Oh Alpha Trion was really old and wise in Sunbow G1? Let's use him).
When they canonized the "definitive"...
I love this mould. I know T30 Skids tried new things/matched IDW's take, but between it not being able to actually function as an action figure and it just not scratching that Honda City itch... yeah no thanks. Legacy's take nailed it for me.
I will defend Legacy Bulkhead though. I think...
Not to get too deep into religion... but I'm Jewish, and in Judaism we have the Twelve Tribes of Israel. Which is explained, theologically, as the Israelites being descended from each of the twelve sons of Jacob, aka Israel.
These patriarchs of the Tribes are... well... not exactly fleshed out...
