    Traitor Watch - The 45 & 47 Thread

Welp, looks like the "special master" that Trump demanded look over the documents isn't working out so well. He basically said "Whaddaya want me to do about it?" pointing out that he's not authorized to see the contents either because they're classified. Even if it was just a delay tactic, it...

Conspiracy lunatic thread - people who believe in absurd nonsense are dangerous

Their disinformation is chaotic, self-contradicting nonsense that only fellow Qanoners even attempt to take seriously. Trump's disinformation campaign—that he is first and foremost a great leader and that secondly he had the 2020 election stolen from him—is simple, consistent, and to the point...

So despite all our efforts to avoid starting World War III, he's determined to do it anyway just out of spite.

Isn't that kind of an oxymoron? In order to be a train wreck, surely it has to be a lot worse than just mediocre.

Conspiracy lunatic thread - people who believe in absurd nonsense are dangerous

The news this evening made a big deal about Trump using a Qanon dogwhistle at his rally, but like... does Qanon actually represent any kind of threat beyond being followers of Donald Trump? If he's "hiding" references in his material, it's probably just to appease their desire to pretend they're...

UK politics thread – meet the new boss, same as the old boss

Ceremonial monarchy in a nutshell: They're only allowed to make one rule, that everyone has to pretend to care about them. And they milk it for all it's worth.

The Last of Us - Part 1

That's the other thing. Nintendo's remakes and remasters frequently (always?) launch at sub-$60 prices, or are sold bundled together. I think they understand, on some level, that it's silly to try to sell people games they already own for the same price they already paid for them, prettied-up...

    Police behaving badly

Sounds like someone tried to "make it look like an accident" but had the brain of a Saturday morning cartoon villain's bumbling minion so they made it look like the kind of accident that's still criminal negligence at best.

The Last of Us - Part 1

I'd say "Imagine being so full of yourself that you'd remake your game twice in a row" but then I remembered that they already did that with Shadow of the Colossus and Ico and it was probably a smart move, and also that people would be thrilled if they re-remade Wind Waker for the Switch.

    Disney & Pixar present- "LIGHTYEAR!"

Oh yeah, I skipped over this, but it dawned on me that this is also ridiculously fudged. They make it seem like time dilation caused his trip to be longer than anticipated, not just the failure to achieve lightspeed. Which is stupid because getting closer to the speed of light makes the trip...

    Disney & Pixar present- "LIGHTYEAR!"

This is a good point. What even were the Space Rangers? What was their purpose? Clearly it's not colonization, or Buzz would have decided Mission Accomplished before they even started experimenting with ways to get off-world. But then, you might as well ask why there are thousands of civilian...

I know that brand, but isn't the name wrong? The weird world of international branding

Is that the one where the packaging is all just plain yellow with giant Helvetica text? I remember that one making the rounds on social media because it's basically this XKCD comic but in real life. EDIT: Yep, found 'em through ExplainXKCD. For bonus yuks, here is their website.

    Disney & Pixar present- "LIGHTYEAR!"

Oh, and also I can't get past this nonsense: Jumping into hyperspace causes relativistic time dilation as just a normal consequence of how it works, but not only do they use it as their sole means of traveling between habitable worlds despite that, a lifetime spacer like Buzz went his entire...

    Disney & Pixar present- "LIGHTYEAR!"

I think the biggest problem with this movie is that it is a Buzz Lightyear movie. Pixar simply can't seem to avoid turning everything they touch into a Pixar Movie™ with Big Themes and such (well, not since Cars 2 at least), and that feels like 180° off from what I'd expect Buzz Lightyear's...

I know that brand, but isn't the name wrong? The weird world of international branding

I doubt it. I was using the term "store brand" in the more general sense of "generic brand", but even generic brands that are exclusive to one store chain or another sometimes have their own name instead of using the chain's name—Walmart's is called Great Value, for example.

Splatoon: I Ink Therefore I Clam

Splatoon was pretty much the perfect version of itself from the get-go. A lot of franchises take a few installments to find their groove, but a lot of franchises aren't made by Nintendo. They also allowed their developers to make balance tweaks post-launch, so they pretty much ironed out the few...
