There have been a lot of mistransformations lately. The fact that there is a gap perfectly sized to fit those canisters on each side makes me think they must hinge forward into that space.
I think you may be SOL. Superglue is (by nature) pretty unforgiving and anything that might remove it will almost certainly damage the plastic underneath. Just say it's battle damage and call it a day.
