Maybe it's different now but I thought I remember Hasbro saying the molds are tailored for specific types of plastic, so it's not as simple as just putting regular "solid" plastic in a mold designed for transparent. I could also be imagining that.

Honestly, I'd have been more interested in toy colors across the board, but MSRP was too much regardless.

It's an interesting idea; someone should ask about it. Considering Mainframe the comic character/Action Master had almost nothing to do with the Ark it's certainly reasonable though. His original tech-spec says he's "A walking, talking computer terminal", so it could just be the obvious option...
