I think it's an age thing.
Gimmicks appeal to younger audiences, articulation appeals to older ones, and the older kid market for toys has been steadily drying up for the last 30 years, being replaced with the adult market.
Hasbro still puts out toys that focus more on gimmicks over articulation. They just do it in the lines they specifically market to kids and that (seemingly) most of the fandom derides or at least has little to no interest in.

Conceptually I think it's great, but the execution just isn't grabbing me, but it's nice to see a toyline that feels more like what we used to get in the 80's-2000's, and I might have to get that Sky-Byte car regardless.
If the new show starts in summer, when are the releasing those last eight...
