I feel like my favourite modern line packaging has been TR and ER. Both of which had a black base but had interesting illustrations overtop.
AotP's toys have been some of the best Generations figures we've gotten in some time IMO, but the boxes are leaving something to be desired. The art...
"Megatron, it's me, Megatronus! I'm here to convince ya to do sin! Come with me and steal candy! From babies and small businesses! I'm not talkin' about Walmart!"
I've just been on this ride before. Animated ended sixteen years ago, and you still have people vocal about it coming back.
Prime ended twelve years ago and some people couldn't let it go to such an extent we got a truly heinous fan-made movie trying to "continue" it.
Rescue Bots and Rescue...
I'm not a fan. It looks so... plain. I guess it being very white makes for a nice contrast with the "collector-oriented" black Generations packaging but still...this just looks very cheap.
"Hey Iron Man, your suit sucks!"
"How did I not realize my drip was mid?"
"A child not liking my armour is the worst thing imaginable!"
"NOW EVERYONE WILL LOVE ME!"
It feels like EarthSpark is just sort of... dangling by a thread. I don't know what its numbers are doing on Paramount+ (and very few people probably do) but it just seems like the brand has moved on to other things and ES is just sort of straggling trying to wrap itself up.
I don't know the...
Oh I get it. The designs for the FFoD guys look like they were cobbled together from various art assets at 4:45pm on a Friday (this is part of their charm, btw).
But still... they could have rattled off some bs. It would be curious to see how the brand's overall mythology would have evolved had...
I don't mind the retconning FFoD guys with established "previous Matrix bearer" names. These guys should be fairly important and it sucks that the original script didn't even bother with names. Giving them those is by far one of the least egregious things AVP did.
And given Animated's design...
I'm not entirely convinced that Dion was ever meant to be anyone. Ariel only got saved because someone else noticed her similarity to Elita-1 and it was easy to change the ending to War Dawn to include a bit about her getting rebuilt too.
But the original intent was that both Ariel and Dion...
I like how "Prime Nova" could work and show the evolving nature of Cyberyronian society. Like how the Roman Emperors were at various points called "Caesar," "Augustus," "Imperator," and "Emperor." It makes sense that over Cybertron's long history the exact title of the Matrix holder would change...
The McFarlane Super Powers line isn't really for me since the original line was before my time, but I admit they are pretty neat when done in out there designs like Manga Batman or Fleischer Superman. They also scale well with 90s Kenner DC figures.
