They have:

You know, if this was just the jet without the silly trailer, and a different character other than Prime, I might have bit on this. I really love the fire Valkyrie mold.

When they first announced a Macross crossover, I imagined Harmony Gold crouched in the bushes with a knife and/or lawyer. Despite their dismal court performance last time, I would not put it past them to try again...

There is a part of me that would love to see Harmony Gold finally lose their death grip on Macross to a company like Hasbro.
Unfortunately, I don't think Hasbro is actually the right company to do anything more significant with Macross than HG has. (see also: MMPR)
On the other hand, humans in Valkyries battling Transformers would be pretty awesome.

harmony gold hasn't had a death grip on macross for some years now. all they have now is: license to the original TV series via tatsunoko licensing it to them back in the 80s (and the license renewals) and merch rights to the origianl series character and mecha designs

they have no literally no legal claim or ownership over anything outside of that, it's why i can load up disney+ and just watch basically everything from the franchise outside of the orignal series and DYRL. it's also why they can just straight up sell macross merch using non-original series designs at regular ass US retail now (i bought a figure at barnes & noble)

it still sucks that they still have the original series but i wouldn't say 'they have the rights to one show they licensed back in the 80s (and keep renewing the license for) and merch based on that one specific show' is them still having a death grip on macross as a whole.

(it's just weirdly pathetic because no one cares about robotech and yet they still pretend like it's a franchise people give two jives about when it has basically no new fans and from what i know, what fans it still has are more fans of their memories of watching the show in the 80s than the show proper lol)

Nothing you've said is wrong. I'm glad the later series are available to people with Disney+. Hadn't seen any merch in my area, but I'm glad to find out that it's out there.

However, I like the original Macross, and consider the original Valkyrie design to be an iconic transforming mecha, and having those 2 things locked behind Harmony Gold's Robotech is frustrating. I don't exactly have an issue with Robotech per se, it WAS my first introduction to Macross, but HG's handling of the property since then has been a whole lotta annoying.

I mean, when it was first announced I said that everything about it *including* the silly trailer, aside from the head and the fake truck chest, basically screamed Rodimus, like the whole thing was 90% complete as Rod when the edict came down from on high that all Crossover Transformers had to be based on Optimus.

(As an aside, I think they missed a trick by not incorporating some elements of Mic Sounders from GaoGaiGar into that figure.)

I loved how cheeky Bandai was about pointing out the English subtitles option on the Japanese release of the Do You Remember Love anniversary blu-ray they put out. Wink wink.

This was part of why I wanted to like it, in case someone would make an upgrade kit that would un-Optimus it somehow. There was enough there to strike a Rodimus vibe. But I couldn't get past the weirdness of that trailer.

And then I saw how much it cost, which (even if that kit existed) made it clear that this wouldn't work, lol.

Yeah, it's an insane amount of money for something that is basically a curiosity. And don't get me wrong, I love the weird, bizzare, curious, out-there elements of Transformers, but this just pegged too many "what the actual crap?" moments for me, and pricing was certainly a big factor.

Damn, sorry to hear it. He's currently a little over $200 on BBTS, and I feel like I probably would have pulled the trigger at half that (still would have waffled back and forth, though).
It's weird now, because like the recent Blaster/Jem SDCC crossover, I kinda just want the guitar 😆

It’s only a little over $110 converted here, and I still feel ripped off. They put way too much effort into this thing for the silly planetruck mode instead of a less fiddly robot. In a way, it’s the worst of Macross and Transformers

Turns out “Secret” is a James Bond collab with a Aston Martin DB5 as vehicle mode

Weird. Honestly, I thought James Bond cars would be more of a MASK thing, especially that submarine one. Not joking, I really thought it would have crossed over with them first. Decades ago.

Shame this won't be Quickshadow (Autobot secret agent from Rescue Bots who literally turns in a bond style spy car. Like Prime has her scan the car used in the movies of the not-Bond character in that universe.)
And the car is called an "Austley Benton", even.

A James Bond MASK collab would require Hasbro giving a crap about MASK.

There's an outside chance it could be a stealth homage, possibly?
I'm convinced whoever got the assignment for the USA 250 Star Eagle job just used it as an excuse to get a retail Blue Bolts out there.

However it works out, I expect his gun will be a PPK reference, given the era, and I hope there's enough budget to work in a few extra gimmicks like the old pop out headlight guns, similar to how Agent Knight got his voice and lightbar.

Then there is a surprise animated short on youtube where the James Bond transformer gets shot, glows, and regenerates into an entirely different model of car. Surprise, it's a Doctor Who homage! (I still think if you assume James Bond is a Time Lord it makes the entire franchise a whole lot more reasonable, weirdly).
