I always go back to Netflix Bumblebee. That mould had a realistically proportioned VW Bug and managed to get a pretty good robot mode out of it. True, it had some partsforming, but I'll take that all day every day over what Mattel just put out.
Same here, but that's exactly my point. What helps it a lot is the ability to split up the top bubble of the car. If that has to remain unbroken, he'd have this bulging oval torso as well. Mind, I'm not saying it's definitively the case, I'm just raising the possibility (recalling Alternators and how some car brands didn't want transformation seams all over their vehicles, making them look broken or whatever).

As bad as it looks, I'd still buy it if it were cheap enough. I had a huge Hot Wheels collection until my mother decided "You're not into that anymore" and got rid of the whole lot with no warning. Hot Wheels X Transformers could be a happy place for me if the prices weren't so goofy. Unfortunately, I have to sit this out.

I am sorry that happened to you.

Finally pulled the trigger on Freakwency! I still don't know dingus about Stanger Things other than "X-files type stuff happens to D&D-loving kids", but this is a really solid toy. Great van mode and straightforward transformation, good size for a modern voyager, and I really dig his head sculpt. 8trax is a cute addition, and the play feature with Freakwency is fine and non-intrusive. The chicken gun is fine for what it is.

MSRP is still pretty high, and you're paying for a lot of air in the box, but he's overall good stuff. Though really...if 8trax and chicken gun would effectively be a core class purchase on their own, voyager + core isn't that different than the crossover and fancy box tax.

It's honestly a shame that the crossover molds don't get reused, really, 'cause he'd make some pretty good other vans even discounting the one comic character dude that's getting his own mold next year.

Freakwency is probably the best van-former they've made. And designwise he feels like he fits perfectly with the G1 cast, not something a lot of the crossover molds can do, imo.
It's also that delicious shade of blue. Too bad it wasn't used in every season, so I could more easily connect it to the series.

...I would probably accept a remold of this as the A-Team van. Add spoiler, some lights on top, and a new headsculpt with a mohawk.

Ha, yeah, if they'd ever reuse a mold in a separate property's collab that would be the easy one.

As far as TF repaints, heck. Maybe I'll drop this in the repaint idea thread, but I wouldn't mind seeing him in some of the Standard G1 Guy colors like Ironhide/Ratchet. Or, wouldn't even have to change much, could pull a Binaltech and make Blaster with Sundor; drop the chicken for a normal pistol and give him eyes instead of the visor, but headphones suit the character. Double heck, based purely on silhouette, he's got the big wide shoulders, give him a facemask head for G1-ized Movie Ironhide; drop the chicken and 8trax for a couple chunky pistols that store in the radio slot instead.
