And then design an all-new Silverbolt, who looks very similar to CW, but is actually entirely different and in fact entirely incompatible, just to feed on the nerd rage.

I laughed the other day that James Roberts tweeted something he'd found in his notebooks showing that the character who turned out to be Tarn was basically intended to be from that character's conception. He didn't expect anyone to believe it.

ZacWilliam, I like those stories but I think I already have a decent Senator Ratbat somewhere and I don't think I could buy that Megs mode another time and be happy I spent the funds.

I am going to pass on that one. The packaging looks great, but I don't really want these versions of these characters.

I would love for the whole humanoid Senator Ratbat concept to go away forever and never be spoken of again.
My position, as well. I already have a Miner Megatron and a Senator Ratbat that are good enough. Or, to put it another way, these aren't enough better than the ones I already have to make it worth my while to spend the money on these all-new figures. For those who don't have the earlier versions, or who may find the improvements enough of an incentive, I can certainly see the appeal.
But they're not for me.
I'm not quite in this place, but with the IDW continuity already in the rear-view mirror, I do find it harder to care about these homages.
Personally, I kinda like the idea that Senator Ratbat was humanoid, but was somehow turned into a bat as karmic payback for some unknown incident.
Its kind of the oppocite of Ravage, who upgraded to a humanoid form, yet retained a Beast alt mode, two minions of Soundwave, two very different paths, that are mirrors of one another!
It wasn't really an unknown incident. Senator Ratbat was a supporter of Functionism, which the Decepticons were originally formed against. Once Ratbat's usefulness ended (after the Senate was wiped out), Soundwave extracted his spark and shoved it into a cassette form as an ironic punishment after spending his career supporting policies that made life worse for bots like that.
Because having him just be a bat is too much fun.
