They did that some years ago. Then stopped doing it.

I'd check one out. The only time I ever found T30 Sandstorm was at a TRU outlet in Guelph, Ontario. You never know.

From what I've read from people who live near areas that have the modern standalone TRUs in the US, it's basically TRU in name only.

Basically expect like trendy popular toys with the kids (blind box stuff) at the front and then the rest is clearly like Five Below tier toys or blatant overstock from other retailers.

It is absolutely not the TRU we remember. It's not even 10% of it.

I saw a walk through of the Kansas city TRU store that has been open for about a year now. It basically looked like if you took Ollies toy section and made it the entire store. Throw in some TRU merch and that is what you get.

Take a look:

Like it doesn't seem to be organized like TRU was. Everything is just grouped by brands with brands being right next to stuff that isn't in the same target audience. Still, I would love it if one opened up near here again. Any word on where those 120 stores will be?

Apparently there were recent restructuring at Hasbro, and Emily Bader got laid off.

I somehow missed this. 597 potential layoffs, put under the WARN act as possible transfers, which assumes, in a highly unlikely way, that people can easily uproot and move that quickly since it's apparently effective CHRISTMAS EVE. I hope the reports are inaccurate simply to avoid the whole company looking incredibly tone deaf and PR ignorant.

To be fair, it's already been over a year since the relocation was announced, and rumors were swirling for years before that. Moving sucks but there's already been a lot of time to look into it.

And for what it's worth, they're only moving an hour away. Moving to another state sounds dramatic but Rhode Island is not very big.

Well, better than I thought, then. Though that then leads to the question of why waste so much time money and effort to move an hour down the road. No amount of tax breaks will ever offset the disruption.

Boston is a major metro area in ways Pawtucket isn't. Being in Boston opens up opportunities down the road.

Literally. There's a huge convention center 5 minutes down the road. I image Hasbro has already thought about what they could do with it.

I've seen a few of the usual suspects bemoaning this online and I'm... not seeing much of an issue?
First, like CoffeHorse said, this has been a known thing that's been in the works for a long while now. It's not like Hasbro is demanding people move on short notice.

Secondly... I moved to Florida when I got a job here. And me getting the job was contingent on me agreeing to move here.
You have to live where work is. That doesn't sound like an unreasonable thing to me. It only becomes a problem if Hasbro did drop this one everyone on short notice, but they didn't.
