New pictures of Bumblebees Hot Wheels car are up and his face combined with the body make him look terribly constipated.

"Poe...Tae...Toe..."
"Uh, Bee? You ok, man...?"
"Poe...Tae...Toe..."

On the other hand the detail behind the chest window makes him look like he has a Matrix-like thing. Maybe the weight gain after becoming a Prime isn't always muscle?

Edit: Got where I could download a picture.

why is it like 99% of transforming robot toys that don't have any east asian designers always end up sucking ass

(it's because transforming mecha has been an established thing in the pop cultures of places like japan, korea, china, etc. for so long that people have literally been doing this for decades whereas in the US, the only real 'big' transforming mecha franchise is transformers, which also has takara engineers working on the toys, isn't it?)

That’s still more stuff to cram into robots. The Energon Autobots reused their regular legs as their pants modes, as opposed to having to find something to do with super robot legs into the other four modes. Also, if the Energon Autobots are your example of Hasbro input on their aesthetics, then it mustn't amount to much.

IDK if it's just about expertise. Did the behind-the-scenes mention if VW insisted on no big cuts or seams or whatever on the car body? Because all the engineering in the world is going to struggle to make that car top be anything more than this kind of paunch if it can't be broken up and has to have accurate proportions. Every G1 VW Bee that's made it work has done so by changing up one or both of two elements.

As bad as it looks, I'd still buy it if it were cheap enough. I had a huge Hot Wheels collection until my mother decided "You're not into that anymore" and got rid of the whole lot with no warning. Hot Wheels X Transformers could be a happy place for me if the prices weren't so goofy. Unfortunately, I have to sit this out.

We must never take Takara's engineers for granted. What they do is hard, apparently.
While I'm sure it is, I think what we're seeing here has FAR more to do with the self-chosen limitations of 1) still resembling a realistic VW Beetle in alt mode, 2) using die-cast metal, and 3) at regular Hot Wheels scale.

I always go back to Netflix Bumblebee. That mould had a realistically proportioned VW Bug and managed to get a pretty good robot mode out of it. True, it had some partsforming, but I'll take that all day every day over what Mattel just put out.
