I almost did a spit-take at the price(s). Especially since the last G1 Soundwave re-release that I bought inluded Buzzsaw and was about $40. So yeah, I'm paying an extra $160 for some engineering, a new cassette, and a pair of headphones.

I can't bring myself to pull the trigger. Price just too high for not gaining much over Studio Series and Masterpiece. I also still have my G1 Soundwave.

I can understand Ultra Magnus being stupid expensive, since Prime with normal trailer was rather expensive; it makes sense that a transforming articulated trailer would bump the cost up by a large amount. But You can't convince me that two boxes, requires almost the same amount of engineering to make it worth being also stupid expensive; more so how one deco is stupid expensive and the other isn't. I've always felt ML was more expensive then it needed to be, but could accept that all the extra parts and engineering time felt about equal to what you were getting. But This is purely them pricing it because of the character and not the engineering.

Ultra Magnus seems fair because that engineering is a feat. I doubt they threw that design together in an afternoon. That took some R&D. But Soundwave is as easy as it could possibly get.

Yeah. Soundwave was already one of the most articulate G1 toys. They literally just had to give him knees that bend the right way, maybe ankle tilts and a working waist. Not even the cassettes need that much articulation for their size tbh.

Also, why the hell does Autoscout come with the toy deco? What is Missing Link doing anymore?
My best guess is they want to do two or three packs of the Cassettes.

But like... they had to do something as a pack-in with Soundwave but they probably were so committed on putting EVERY noteworthy Cassette character in a dedicated pack that they only ideas they had for pack-ins were the Autoscout and Cybertronian Laserbeak. They said screw it and flipped a coin to see who got packed in with the toy deco.

Sad thing is, I would have been interested in an official Autoscout, but not for those prices. Kinda curious if they do a cassette multipack, what price that winds up at. The cassettes were always the most interesting thing about Soundwave, anyway, so I'm curious what kind of wizardry Takara pulls on them.

I mean they’re also sculpting (and painting) the sticker detail.

It’s still widely overpriced though.

I figured Autoscout got picked for Toy Soundwave because they wanted to do it somewhere and it seemed more like a "Microman helper robot" than Cybertronian Laserbeak.

I just figured it was because they knew that what most people wanted was Toy Soundwave with Laserbeak. By putting the more popular cassette with the less popular deco, you can try to get people to buy both who otherwise wouldn't.

It also makes sense to give Cybertronian Laserbeak to Cartoon Soundwave so that one can recreate the scene of Streetlight Soundwave deploying Cybertronian Laserbeak since the Missing Link mold can now do the Streetlight Mode for Soundwave that was a Cartoon-original thing.

G1 Headmaster style, rather than TM compatible? Or somehow capable of both to use the Delta Magnus head?

Looking at the Soundwaves, I get that they included the headphones and cases for legacy reasons but I do wish they'd saved that budget for an extra cassette each or something rather than accessories that will be set to the side.

The little tabs behind her head match the way G1 Headmaster heads work.

The Daniel Headmaster on ML Headmaster Arcee straight up uses Headmaster Jr. construction. It's not meant to be interchangeable with Titan Masters.

They didn't include many Cassettes with Soundwave because if they did that they couldn't sell you Cassette multipacks down the line.
