The issue with the Star Wars toys is that they weren't designed by Transformer designers, so the team making them didn't really have much experience making transforming vehicles. The Takara Darth Vader was made by experienced individuals and it shows. Same thing with the Mandolorean crossover.

I feel like if they just kept it in house, and limited to one or two release a year, instead of a whole line, they could probably keep pumping out great star wars crossovers.

they should have also tried making figures that don't break.

It's Star Wars. Traumatic amputation is SUPPOSED to happen...

Edit: Ugly disappointing thought that I will throw out: They've made a LOT of football helmet transformers, there's no reason they couldn't reuse the engineering and make the Speed Racer crossover his helmet, not his car.
As I was reading your post, I was expecting you to suggest using the football helmet mold to make a Rebel Alliance pilot Transformer that turns into the pilot helmet, since your post began talking about Star Wars. ;)

No reason? How about "it would be incredibly disappointing"? After all, no one thinks "Speed Racer" and immediately thinks of Speed's helmet. They think of the CARS!

That's why I called it disappointing. But then I saw the Speed Racer helmet DVD box, and I thought "It could happen...oh, no..."

Ah, but a redeco would easily net us a collaboration with Mr. Bean! ;)
