Blokees

I have suggested to them they follow Unicron head with the Galvatron head tank from the BWII manga. :)

Japanese BW...tank...they like going obscure sometimes...Tako Tank!

Anyway. Once more appreciating Blokees putting some of the interesting models in non-blind releases a la the translucent Unicrons. Snagged a couple from another FLCS today, crystal Sixshot and the Wheels OP-with-trailer set.

Nothing too special to Sixshot except being cast in various flavors of Mountain Dew, but as a design and character I did want him to go with my G1 and TR molds. I'm not super worried about the whole translucent plastic thing, the Blokees guys are so small and light and the joints aren't really under that much stress.

Wheels is a series I'm torn on - the Cybertronian vehicles are neat as heck, but again, blind boxes. So what do I do but grab an Earth-mode Optimus. But twelve bucks for a full cab and trailer at slightly bigger than Hot Wheels size, and the trailer does almost everything G1 and anything derived from it does? Not a bad deal for a decent little desktop model semi. The silver paint on the trailer really is lovely, having Roller and the repair drone stuffed in there is cute, and I appreciate the option parts for exhaust stacks or airdam on the cab. Solid little truck. And hey, there's a variant idea: different airdam piece, slight variation on the paint colors, boom, '06 Classics Optimus.

Perhaps Blokees should consider (if they're not already) a running set of Unicron pieces. Almost every part of him has had a spotlight moment in fiction to justify a stand-alone release of.

Right Arm? Slamming down onto Cybertron and/or picking off Galvatron like a flea.
Left Arm? Bowling with Cybertron like the titanium toy.
Chest? Galvatron is there taking potshots. That can be where the arm from the first set can pick him off.
Stomach? Glowing ABs.
Butt? C'mon.
Left leg? Popping off at the movie's climax.
Right leg? The "Ouch" scene from TF #75

Just realized how much Unicron does with his right hand. Slamming Cybertron. Picking Galvatron. Crushing the Junkion ship. Glowing on the Armada Toy. Holding 'Cybertron' on the cover of TFTM adaptation #3.

Sliiiiiiightly off-topic, but I have long wanted a transforming Unicron head toy. Robot mode, vehicle mode, triple-changer, whatever. Deluxe or smaller, but not super tiny.

Maybe it's not really Unicron, but a cultist like the upcoming Herald of Unicron. Maybe it's the real deal. Whatever. It'd be neat.

Clear Unicron under blacklight.

BTW, I think the "Solidex" material might be a suspension of iron dust in hard plastic. It's too warm to the touch to be solid iron, but it's definitely ferromagnetic.

I finally saw Blokees at retail this past weekend. Walmart had a Shockwave and Soundwave Blokee as well as a bunch of TF One blind box Blokees.

I've seen them at retail in a few places, though my friendly local comic shop appears to have the best selection.

Yeah, I have only seen them in specialty toy/comic/music stores in my area, so far. I "blindly" picked one up and have yet to see what it is.

Some pretty neat gets here. I'm not fond of how so many are in the same trap as Hemsworth was in where "just get the voice super low, and then do some acting if you can after that". Bailey does a pretty good Hemsworth OP, but I wish he'd gotten to just do a different take because that's another hamstrung performance. The sooner we can get new OP VAs that just do a distinct but similarly warm and resonant thing rather than a labored Peter Cullen impression, the better.

The writing is also... Eh. But okay, this is very likely just not for me.

I always enjoyed it when they do their own voice for Optimus instead of a Cullen impression. RID2000, Animated, and Cyberverse had great Optimus Primes.

Mm, of those, Animated works best. The other two are in that realm of flat Peter Cullen approximations for me. But we'll each like different ones.

For some reason I remember him having a different voice in that series. Specifically, I was thinking of a scene when Bumblebee goes to talk to him while he is rebuilding on Cybertron.

EarthSpark had Alan Tudyk not do a Cullen impression for his Optimus.

These have all been very good. Tudyk largely made it his own thing, a bit loftier but still approachable. Can never go wrong with Gary Chalk. And I appreciate Kaczmarczyk (Cyberworld) for being a good approximation while still having some personality; the take clearly evokes Cullen's style while also just happening to be deep, and isn't as stilted as others get.
