While I suspect he is going to try to get this done, no way it happens without killing the filibuster. That's cool. Now to see if a Big Beautiful Tariff Bill gets fast-tracked through Congress.

I'll believe that when it happens. This is a mind changing moment for cultists and legislators.
The tariffs might end (we all know Trump will fight tooth and nail against it, just because it's not what he decreed), but getting corporations to actually drop their prices is another matter. Yeah, they used tariffs as an excuse, but they'll just see an opportunity to keep prices high and rake in more cash. Even if they do drop a little, I'd be very shocked to see them go anywhere close to pre-tariff levels. 1.) the tariffs (and as it will be sold to the public, the high prices for goods.) will have to end.
This. Literally. Happened. In the meantime, sit back and have some popcorn while we await the inevitable tweets (or "truths," I suppose) wherein 47 accuses SCOTUS of lacking loyalty and being anti-American.
I want you to be right, but we don't call MAGA a cult just to be cute.My dude: the supreme court (whom has supported trump so far and is friendly to maga.) just told trump to pay people, and trump will refuse. When trumps cult is once again denied a payment from great leader: they will not be happy.
As Wonko said, 47's pretty darn predictable. The only question for me was whether or not it had already happened (despite my ignorance of it) before I got around to posting it.This. Literally. Happened.
Which I'm pretty sure is the companies that imported the products, regardless of whether they passed the cost along to the customer in the form of higher prices. This isn't like sales tax where they print it right on the receipt and the customer is legally defined as the one who paid it. There might be an exception in cases where you're buying from AliExpress and having it imported directly from China with no middlemen, but in those situations the tariff would have already been itemized as an import duty, so there's nothing to disclose that customers didn't already know.3.) have to disclose how much they actually made off those tariffs and who paid them.
At my job, we have to pay the tariffs on the metals we import. Then we add that to the customer's invoice when we ship them the finished parts, of course (which pisses them off because it's raising their prices, but hey, welcome to the jive show), but we're still the ones paying it first.Which I'm pretty sure is the companies that imported the products, regardless of whether they passed the cost along to the customer in the form of higher prices. They're going to have to do it because that's literally the order from the supreme court. And it'll be the order again when they lose the subsequent fight to not have to do it. And in the process they'll broadcast the outcome to the public. No, they won't. They'll just lie again and say they didn't. Also where are you getting that they have to do this, or anything else in particular? I didn't see that in the article.
Not that he can't be stopped: but that the people currently charged with stopping him are completely complicit. That is an important difference.
Because NOW three important things happen. 1.) the tariffs (and as it will be sold to the public, the high prices for goods.) will have to end. 2.) trump will have to pay back the tariffs which means they 3.) have to disclose how much they actually made off those tariffs and who paid them.
And when it comes out, from the white house, that like 92% of those tariffs were paid for by the american public: they will be rightfully even more pissed. Followed by trump refusing to stop? This is a mind changing moment for cultists and legislators.

The court did not order him to pay anything back. One minority opinion seems to imply that it is likely to happen. Companies are already lining up their lawsuits to reclaim the tariff money and it will be interesting to see what happens. They will establish a lot of numbers saying who turned over what, but it won't make a slam-dunk*. In my ideal world, they will at least look at the filings of the companies and see if their profits took a dip. They shouldn't issue any money back to companies who didn't take a dip, because it would indicate that they successfully passed the tariff on to the consumers. Perhaps one of these will get to the Supreme Court and they will decide that it has to be divided up to the population. They're going to have to do it because that's literally the order from the supreme court. And it'll be the order again when they lose the subsequent fight to not have to do it. And in the process they'll broadcast the outcome to the public.
They'll be forced to pay back the tariffs, and the first questions they'll be asked is "how much and to who", which will be followed up with "where is this money coming from" cause trump will cut what little social services that are left to cover it. Since the little actual tariff income has already been given to the billionaires, and they aren't giving it back. And of course: they're going lie about all of it, but that's all they've ever done. And the truth of it will come parallel as always.
