As is...Mattel still did okay. This stock drop is basically a kneejerk reaction to Mattel not making AS much money as investors feel they should have. Remember, Mattel still had higher revenue than Hasbro and is still profitable. It bears reiterating that Hasbro, minus Wizards of the Coast, didn't do that fantastically. Magic is very much "proping up" the company as a whole.
And if my aunt had balls, she'd be my uncle.

I'm gonna sing the Doom Song now...or I would if any company had the guts to make decent Invader Zim toys. The Pop things don't count.

Though I will admit that I think Hasbropulse is a bit (barely) more user friendly than Mattel Creations. The non-Premium shipping isn't as troublesome.

Analysts have been predicting the doom of the toy industry for my entire life, so I consider any success by Hasbro at all to be pretty fantastic.
"Hasbro is only doing well because of Magic" both seems wrong (it's undoubtedly pulling a lot of weight but it's not like everything else was in the toilet) and besides the point otherwise.
Like yeah, the hockey team only won because of those five goals they scored. Take those away and they lose.

Like... what's even the argument at that point?

Besides, the central premise- that Hasbro has a massive money maker not impacted by tariffs that Mattel doesn't really have an answer for- remains in play.

I never said that Mattel was on the verge of bankruptcy or anything, just that recent market events do seem to suggest that such a tariff-proof ace in the hole is a very good thing. I'm not sure Mattel's strategy of trying to cover the distance with big ticket licences that ultimately will still be produced in tariffed countries is the best way to deal with that.

I've never had an issue with Hasbro Pulse's interface. I just hate that they seem married to FedEx.

If this is a failure, I will point and laugh at her. If it does well and helps Hasbro fund things I care about, I'll be happy about that. I'm getting something out of this either way.

I feel that’s being rather flippant about the real harm Rowling has caused and continues to cheerlead.

Points for honesty I guess. I’m not going to boycott Hasbro over it so maybe I don’t have room to talk…

I feel like it’s more MTG being Michael Jordan. As long as he’s there and working it’s not a problem. Take him away and you get…the Bulls since 1998.

Which *is* more of an issue.

I've made it this far without buying any of the books, movies, or merch, and I'm not about to break the streak. I don't know what more I'm supposed to do here.

It's a shame Rowling's fervent transphobia overshadows the legitimate problematic elements people with her work. But this is getting pretty off topic.

Eh... I mean... Jordan was a man who, like all of us, was going to lose to father time eventually.

MTG is a brand that's been going strong for decades now. It's not like MTG is going to retire and leave Hasbro in the dust, and then come back for a year for Playmates or something (seriously, check out his tenure on the Wizards, wild stuff).

The fear is that MTG will slow down, but we're in a general boom period of trading cards. GameStop has saved themselves by turning themselves into Pokemon TCG merchants... and video games too I guess. You know, if you're already there.
If MTG slows down, it'll part of a wider trend related to the TCG market.

Which is possible... but again, it's not like Transformers, GI Joe, Star Wars, and Marvel are doing terribly. And these things wax and wane anyway.

Point is... I don't think it's all doom and gloom.

Not even that. It's more like "Hasbro's best player is coincidentally (not due to anything they did specifically to avoid it) also the only player who doesn't have the flu".

No official announcement as of yet, but developers are posting on LinkedIn that Hasbro/WotC has decided to end development of the long gestating AAA Snake Eyes game and shutter its developer, Atomic Arcade.

Wizards of the Coast's similarly long gestating epic RPG game, Exiles, is reportedly still slated for release in early 2027 after making a gameplay appearance late last year.

The following doomposting may be justified. This is certainly not a good thing. However, we don't have any idea how many unannounced games get canceled without us ever knowing they almost existed. The world only noticed this one because it's G.I. Joe.

Okay now let the doomposting begin.

I'm surprised Atomic Arcade wasn't shuttered earlier. Not like this is the fourth or so time that Hasbro dumped millions into a gaming initiative and end up dumping a few years later...

Someone will have to educate me on why they push Snake Eyes so hard.
More casual Joe fans probably wonder the same about Tunnel Rat.

He was basically the "Dude, Big Daddy!" or "Dude, Bludgeon!" of the Other Toy-Based Cast for a while.

Isn't Tunnel Rat based on Larry Hama, who wrote the original Joe comic?

I think Snake Eyes was kind of like the superhero of the team, in sort of a Batman-like trained to the peak of human potential kind of way. And his backstory kind of dominated the Joe comic over time (literally, Cobra Commander, Storm Shadow, Firefly, Zartan, and Stalker all figured into his backstory, and his romance with Scarlett also played a big part in major story arcs). When ninjas got popular in the late 80s, early 90s, there weren't any turtle Joes, but the ninjas were right there, so then he took an even bigger role (so much so that some of the comics had "Snake Eyes" printed more prominently than "GI Joe" on the cover of the GI Joe comic).

Beyond that, it's hard to say. I liked Lifeline, Mainframe, and Dial-Tone, myself.
