So if Void Rivals is out physically why does Amazon have a release date of November 19? And Transformers seems to be delayed 2 weeks from when it was supposed to be released as well.

Yeah, this isn't a new problem. And it's...probably on Amazon's end? But, it's hard to say. It's not just Image, either. Other comic publishers get hit with random digital delays, too, from time to time.
reddit.com/r/Comixology/comments/1g4yf2u/whats_up_with_amazons_release_schedule_for/
reddit.com/r/ImageComics/comments/1noxc11/recently_so_many_amazon_kindle_comics_delayedwhy/

I don't think anyone's said anything officially. But, the problem is could be caused by a few things happening. Purely speculating, mind.

One, Amazon does not consider digital comics a high priority. They probably have a skeleton crew working on that department. So, if anything gets messed up, it tends to get lost in the shuffle.

Two, Image might be sending the files to Amazon late, because they don't want any spoilers leaking out. But, when they do that, Amazon doesn't prioritize processing those files. So, they end up getting delayed.

Three, Image might be trying to help brick and mortar comic shops, by giving them "early access" to the books. I don't think this is intentional. But, it is possible.

So, there's a few things it could be. But, I don't think anyone outside of the publishers and Amazon actually know. Could just be as simple as file formats not quite matching up, for whatever reason. Or just simple human errors, like a intern forgetting to send the right e-mail, or something.

Transformers #26 is out!

This is another solid issue. This one's more of a focus issue on one particular group of characters, specifically, for the most part. We progress a few storylines with them in interesting ways. It's a good issue. I just don't want to spoil too much about it.

So, personally, I say it's worth picking up. Chances are, if you're reading this, you're already picking this one up. But, if you're worried about Kirkman's pacing, I don't think you have too much to worry about. At least not yet. This doesn't look to be as much as a slow burn as Void Rivals used to be. Things definitely happen this issue.

Okay, Thundercracker, calm down. I know the Cobra-La guys are intimidating, but it's been a whole month. Snake-people can't hurt you. Their venomous jaws aren't strong enough to bite through metal.

Thundercracker actually gets to USE a Sonic Boom on panel. This might just be one of the first times we've seen him do that.

Also, it takes 3 Autobots to take down 1 Seeker. No wonder the Autobots have such a hard time.

Kirkman's version of Ultra Magnus is a lot more gruff and militant than DWJ's. I don't mind it. But, it does seem like it's going a predictable route of him trying to take over the Autobots.

Optimus almost instantly defusing the tense situation with his speech is actually kind of a nice moment. He's just THAT charismatic, I guess.

It sounds like Wheeljack already wants to start building Autobot City where Chicago used to be. So, we're already building up to the "Movie", huh? It's actually a pretty good use of all the destruction they caused.

Optimus actually insists that Skywarp is the first one who gets repaired. That's really nice. Naive. But, nice.

Soundwave trying to laugh is...disturbing, honestly.

Meanwhile, at Shadow Watch, Miles Mayhem has a complete scan of a Transformer. I'm sure he won't do anything nefarious with tha...oh, he's already shot someone. Yeah, okay. He's starting up VENOM anytime now. That's why you should always wear a m-m-mask in the office!

Back on Cybertron, Elita is still mad at Optimus! He's going to have to absolutely stuff his entire trailer full of candy and flowers to get her to forgive him, now. Cliffjumpers heading into Decepticon territory to fix the Space Bridge. And...Kup...LIVES!!! In fact, most of the characters we assumed were dead are probably still alive. I mean...with the right parts, that's really not too surprising.

Skywarp gets repaired and the first thing he does is...attack everyone. Because of course he does. Even after being stuffed into the side of a computer, he's still a true believer in the Decepticon cause. But...Thundercracker seems to have had a change of heart. It seems like Thundercracker has actually had a change of heart and is sticking around the Autobots. Huh. Good for him. So, we have one Seeker for the Autobots, one for the Decepticon, and one Starscream pretty much on his own side. I kind of wonder if this is going somewhere?

Meanwhile, the Decepticons are running low on Energon. And Megatron choose NOW of all times to have a aneurysm! Actually, it's probably something to do with the Quintesson Matrix he's got inside of him doing...something? It's unclear what's going on right now. But, it's probably not going to be good for anyone!

GI Joe #14 is out!

Normally, I would have a spoiler section in these "reviews". But...well...this issue can probably be best summarized as:

PEW PEW PEW! BOOM! B-TA-TA-TA! VROOOOOOM! KAPOW! BZZT! SNORT-SNORT-SNORT!

(I apologize if that spoils too much outside of spoiler tags.)

Yeah, this is more of a "action" issue, than a "lore" issue. It's really fun action. And there's a lot of it. So, if you like your action this is the issue for you. But, it really doesn't leave a lot to actually discuss. Dreadnok War continues to be a fun, action-heavy event. The Dreadnoks themselves are having the time of their lives. And this issue does feature the first appearance of what seems to be a fan-favorite Cobra character. But, I don't really know them, so the appeal is a little lost on me. They seem fun. And...they brought pets, which is always nice.

So, I had fun with this issue. But, read it for the spectacle. Not necessarily for the substance.

Solicitations for February are out!
The images:

ImageCatalogDecforFeb-57.jpg

And some discussion:
In GI Joe, Duke is finding out about the Transformers crashing at his secret base! Which...kind of already got spoiled by the press release Skybound put out. So, Duke and Optimus are going to be meeting! We're almost certainly going to get a fight, because this is comics. Outside of using some sort of mech-suit, though, I'm not sure how much of a chance Duke has. If only he had some sort of...I don't know... "Mobile Armored Strike Kommand" he could call in. Oh...what's that "secret" spoiler cover? (Which is also spoiled by the press release.)

In Transformers, the Autobots and Decepticons do be fighting. How unlike them. And...I'm going to guess Starscream's going to be the one to turn the tide? Just based on the "B" cover? Normally, I'd say Shredhead, since they're really pushing him, but the covers are telling a different story.

And in Void Rivals, the Quintesson War continues. Not much to say about it, but Pythona seems to be helping out. Do I sense a alliance with Cobra-La in the future? That'd actually be kind of interesting. Transformers and GI Joe versus Cobra-La and most of the Ring.

GI Joe #15 is out!

And it continues to be pretty good. Lot of action.

Although...fair warning, this one has a pretty graphic scene in it. I don't want to spoil it, but...it's a little intense. Fair warning if you're a little squeamish.

We also get a interesting character beat in this issue. And it makes me curious where we're going to be going. More about that in the spoilers section.

This was a pretty fun issue. Dreadnok War continues to be mostly action, but we do get a little bit of downtime in this one to chat. There's a LITTLE bit more to discuss with this issue.

Duke is no match for the POWER of FAT! Both Duke and Cobra Commander go down pretty quickly to Road Pig. I guess that's the power of a big guy with a cinder-block tied to a bedpost.

Apparently, Buzzer has already maimed a friend with his chainsaw hand. Trying to do a high five. Classic. Poor Thrasher, though...he probably lived up to his name while it was happening, though.

Apparently, Road Pig wasn't even a part of the Dreadnoks, yet. He's never met these guys before! They become pretty fast friends, bonding over their shared love of dogs and grape soda. It's nice to see these guys make friends. So, I guess Road Pig just dresses this way for...reasons. Private reasons that we don't need to think about too much. Mad Max cosplay is just REALLY popular in this world, I guess.

Meanwhile, Destro is trying to sell intel...to GI Joe Night Force?! Huh. Okay, I didn't really see that coming. Destro wants to team up with the Joes against the Transformers. I...guess that makes sense. Destro doesn't profit from allowing a alien invasion to happen (...yet).

Back with Duke and CC, they have a nice little chat while they're strung up like a rack of ribs. And in a pretty interesting reveal, CC says that...he wants to BECOME a Transformer. He wants to use the Cybertronian's technology to "ascend" beyond the mere constraints of humanity. That's...kind of a unique motivation for Cobra Commander, as far as I know. And given that, in the Sunbow cartoon, CC and Starscream share a voice actor...I just have to wonder. Starscream is in kind of a weird place over in Transformers, right now. Could we eventually see Starscream and Cobra Commander get "fused" together, somehow? Could we end up seeing the rise of....Star Commander?! (Or Cobra-Scream? No, no. Star Commander is better, I think.)

Road Pig's dog looks so happy! Despite belonging to a probable psychopath, he's still a pretty good boy.

...And then Cobra Commander rips out Buzzer's throat with his teeth. Yeah...Yeah. That happened. It's not the goriest thing I've ever seen or anything. But, it's kind of a shock after seeing Ripper give a puppy tummy rubs. You lulled me into a false sense of "security" there, with the puppy and grape soda talk. Good job, book. Seems like Buzzer's going to be fine. But, there does seem to be a theme here of Buzzer losing parts of his body. If he isn't careful, he's going to end up like Baxter Stockman in 2003-era TMNT.

And then the rest of the Dreadnoks catch up, ready to string them both up. Took them long enough to get here on their various vehicles. Road Pig's so happy to have company! He's a pretty jolly guy, for someone who smashes uninvited intruders with home-made sledgehammers.

Meanwhile, Clutch is starting to worry about Duke. So he's going to go check on him. Along with...a little help from a "friend". (...It's Hound. It's probably going to be Hound. Duke's not going to like that. This entire situation is just going to lead to Duke being VERY grumpy with everyone.)

And we also get a little preview of the next issue of Void Rivals in the back! Which...man, this really illustrates that Zalilak and Proximus have WAY too similar designs. It's hard to tell two triangle-headed people apart. Maybe one of them should have gotten a different shaped hat? Like a octogon or maybe a rhombus or something. There can be only one triangle-hatted character in this book! And after this fight...I guess maybe there will be?

Transformers #27 is out!

And it's another solid issue! We're creeping up on some interesting developments. Although, I will admit, it does seem like we're in for a bit of a "breather arc" for a while. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. We're getting some time to decompress and focus on a fewer lower-stakes side-stories. But, I will admit, it's a slower paced than under DWJ's pen. I still think this is good. And it's still MILES (..heh) better than early Void Rivals. Any problems are mostly because this comic be-bops around a LOT of different plot points, trying to juggle everything without focusing too much on any one thing. But, we do seem to be shifting down the throttle before we crank it back up again.

I still recommend it, though. This is still good. And we get a few really touching moments between characters, here. And...one surprise new "job" for someone.

Apparently, the Autobots have been piling their dead in a corner, like a bunch of diseased rats. Yeah, kind of awkward. I mean, they are being PRETTY clear that they can fix just about ANY damage done to any of them. So, you would want to keep their bodies around, just in case. But, geez. Kind of wish they had a closet they could stuff them into or something.

They do mention returning bodies to the Well of Sparks as a last-ditch effort to repair someone. That's kind of interesting. And, potentially, a source for future upgrades or gimmicks they want to give them.

Everyone really seems to have a problem with Bulkhead. And I figure it's a "He's not from G1 like the rest of us" joke. But, it does come across a little forced. He's kind of a loudmouth, but he probably doesn't deserve the scorn the others seem to have for him. I honestly wonder if they're setting something up for him? Either a flashback to the days on Cybertron to see WHY everyone doesn't like him especially, or maybe Bulkhead doing the opposite of Thundercracker and joining the Decepticons, for whatever reason.

Meanwhile, Spike wants to take Carly out on a date. Just a nice night of dinner and no giant robots trying to kill them! I'm sure that'll go swimmingly. What could possibly go wrong?

Also, Ultra Magnus tries to dress down General Flagg for capturing him and torturing him. But...Flagg does have a gift for gab, and turns the whole conversation around on him. I can see this as a guy who would hire Miles Mayhem. Flagg isn't exactly wrong, but I do notice that he never apologizes, either. I guess that would be showing weakness, and we can't be having that.

Skywarp is hanging with the bros. The "bros" in question being the Combaticons. Filling up Energon Cubes and shooting the breeze...and the humans. Yeah, Skywarp's probably not getting redeemed any time soon.

Just to nail that metaphorical contrast home, we cut to Thundercracker having a heart-to-heart with Optimus in a scenic wooded glen. It's a really great session where they work through a lot of Thundercracker's issues. Very productive therapy session. And so, Thundercracker decides to officially become a Autobot this issue. Even getting his Auto-Brands and everything. Good for him! Too bad that also means he feels he has to leave his old friends "dead" onboard the Ark. That's...probably going to come back around, at some point. How much you want to bet those bodies go missing and Thundercracker gets wrongfully accused to taking them to Megatron or something?

Also, Miles Mayhem and General Flagg ALSO have a confrontation this issue. And Flagg hands him his helmet! They're really building up Flagg, right now. Not sure if that means someone's going to end up killing Flagg soon-ish, or if he's just going to stick around as this super-tough General everyone just has to deal with. I can't help but think Flagg is winning a little too often to actually stick around.

In a surprise twist, Ultra Magnus feels like his combat abilities have atrophied from years being captured. So, he offers to give the "Magnus" title to Arcee. Huh. Interesting development. I wouldn't mind Arcee getting her own Power Armor form. It could look kind of cool. Hopefully, she gets her own, and she doesn't just take Ultra Magnus's shell for her own. Who knows, maybe she'll just get a hammer? Kirkman did say he was a fan of Animated.

Optimus's arm is also finally healed! Kind of too bad, it was a unique look for him. But, he allows himself to be healed because everyone else who can be healed has already been healed (minus their Decepticon prisoners). So, now the Autobots are at maximum battle capacity for whatever happens next!

Meanwhile, back on Cybertron, Cliffjumper is sneaking around on his mission. And who should spot him but...Shockwave! He's STILL not dead! Posing on a rooftop like he's the Batman! Never count out Shockwave. He's doing pretty well for not having a head...only a single glowing eye sticking out of the wreckage that was once his head.

I'm calling it: Flagg is really Zartan. It was mentioned in the Cobra Commander series that Zartan is deep into something, and with his gift of gab and sweet ninja moves (very satisfying seeing Mayhem get taken down, been wanting his comeuppance since IDW) have me betting on the Z-man.

We're getting to the point where we know where the TF story from the 2025 EU special will fit.

Yeah, I'm all good with a breather arc after the big showdown in #24 and switch in writers. Though it does seem a little cruel to get Dan Mora and then have him mostly just draw people standing around talking.

Overall I like this but some things seem a bit... stiff? Like it's kinda weird they're just leaving Bumblebee's corpse lying around like that, not even cleaning him up a bit. I was sorta reminded of the scene in the early Marvel comics where Gears 'dies' and Spider-Man finds it bizarre how the Autobots seem unmoved, but this purposeful to show the difference in human and Cybertronian life. Here it's just the Autobots standing around, with no culture clash to observe. Extending that to Bulkhead, I don't think it's supposed to be too insidious, just that he's a loudmouth (and possibly 'younger'?) than the others so they find him annoying, but it's hard to read between the lines of this writing sometimes.

Likewise, I haven't been sure what to make of General Flagg, who seemed weirdly generic and artificial at first. It's also interesting that when UM accuses him of torture, it seems like he denies it but then instead gives an excuse, not actually denying it was torture. He gets more to do here, though my first guess was simply that he's being set up for Miles to take him out. But I do like Agent X's guess that he might be someone else in disguise.

I remember some speculation Shockwave's 'death' might be a way to set up a personality shift to his emotionless self, but still a bit surprised to see him turn up so soon.

I'm a bit disappointed we didn't get a roster rundown, we're just told everyone accounted for has been repaired (except Bumblebee, I guess). Which leaves things vague as to who might be around. Easier for the writers I guess. Doesn't really make sense for there to be other Decepticons lying around the Ark, I guess we could surmise that they were buried and so Starscream and Soundwave didn't know they were there, and the Autobots later found them.

I grabbed the Optimus/Thundercracker cover and I'm glad I did - the characters on the other two (Soundwave, Elita) don't even appear this issue!

Honestly, his reasoning makes sense. He's still an asshole about it; and if UM was human I'm pretty sure it'd be considered a war crime; but whole "We have Giant alien robots attacking us, easily killing us, razing our cities, we needed to know how to deal with them and only recently have we learned your not all one unit." it makes sense, more so if you don't even know they are actually living beings and not just like advanced AI or something. To me its less of an excuse, but a semi valid reason from a sorta generic hardened miltary/army guy. I don't trust him for a minute; but this is an area where I can't completely blame them for doing it... but can blame him for not trying to "make nice" with UM.

Oh yeah, I agree, I thought it was a bit weird Flagg gets incensed at "torture" and starts with "but torture?" which would seemingly lead to an argument of it wasn't torture, it was XYZ but instead he argues well it was justified. Just thought it was a bit of awkward dialogue, but one can easily say that's just how the character is, using a bit of verbal sleight of hand. I'm not familiar enough with Kirkman to say if this is just part of his writing style or not.

Also, kinda weird for Swindle to actually use "crap" as a profanity, as we've had so many Cybertronian equivalents over the years.

GI Joe #16 is out!

We're 4 issues into this 5 issue event, so things are starting to turn. It'll be interesting to see where everyone lands after this is all over. I could see there being a bit of a shake up by the end of the event. This is another more action-focused issue. So, there's not THAT much to talk about. But, still, I can try and hit the highlights.

I don't know if I recommend jumping in NOW of all times, since we're 4/5th of the way through the story. But, if you've been following along, I think you'll enjoy the ride. It fun, well drawn action.

The Dreadnoks are having a good ol' fashioned bonfire! And Cobra's on the menu! D'aww, it's nice to see everyone getting together for the holidays. There's a two page spread that I'm sure is just littered with GI Joe references and cameos, but I'll admit, I can't pick anyone out.

Duke is VERY against the Dreadnok's killing Cobra Commander. It feels...a *little* forced, just to make Duke look like the good guy, here. Yeah, sure, CC MIGHT have some useful intel, but...it probably would be best for everyone if the Dreadnok's just offed him. You KNOW he's just going to lie to you, or find some way to activate some doomsday weapon. I feel like Duke's going to end up regretting helping CC out, here.

Duke gets cut free, in order to play a little "game", while they prepare their barbecue. If Duke can beat Buzzer before CC burns to death, he can save him! Aw, fun and games, that's really what being a Dreadnok is all about. And grape soda! Don't forget about the grape soda!

Meanwhile, Destro tells Hawk about the Joes having Hound. Huh. Their superiors find out about Hound before most of the regular Joes do. That's not going to look good on this year's employee evaluations. Anyway, Hawk isn't having any dealings with any of this. So, he shoots Destro in the head a few times, and escapes. Don't worry though, Destro's fine...if not a little irritated. That's one quality made helmet! I guess Destro knows his weapons, after all.

So, since plan A didn't work...Destro decides he really does need CC, after all. Because CC is really the only one who knows how the Energon works, I guess.

Back with Duke and CC, who should show up but...the entire GI Joe team! YO JOE, indeed! Clutch looped EVERYONE into this rescue mission.

But, in a way that can only be described as "somehow", the Dreadnoks activate a weather machine that creates a crazy thunderstorm by seeding the clouds with Energon. I...don't know how ANY of that works...but it works, so who am I to argue? The Joes save Duke, but Duke insists on going back in for CC.

But, um...the Joes might need to save the Dreadnoks from Cobra Commander. Because he's loose...and he's got a chainsaw. GROOVY!

In the letters page...they ran out of letters! Double-shipping has it's drawbacks, I guess. If you ever wanted to get your letter published in a comic, I guess now would be a good time to send one in.

And, oddly, they just reprinted the same "Energon Experience" recap page that they had last issue. Not sure if that's a misprint, or if they just decided to reuse the same one this month. just to save themselves the effort? This feels like it's a mistake, but who knows?

Random prediction time! I'm guessing by the end of all this, CC will likely end up "joining" the Joes. That feels like it'd be a fitting twist to end this event on. Not sure how likely that is. But, I could see them treating CC like their Hannibal Lecter, going to him for advice and stuff. Oh...and Duke's definitely finding out about Hound on the last page of next issue. However this ends...I just hope nothing bad happens to Road Pig's dog. He's a good boy!

THE QUINTESSON WAR CONTINUES!
Tremble before the awesome might of the QUINTESSON TRIBUNAL! No ordinary judge can preside over matters of war!

And some discussion:
Optimus is fighting Elita One for leadership of the Autobots. Which, hmm...would it actually be more interesting if Optimus LOST? It'd be interesting to see, but I doubt it'll happen. Unless...they become a battle couple and SHARE the leadership role? Eh, Optimus will probably just win, that's the smart money.

Duke is officially meeting Optimus for the first time in this GI Joe issue. Given Hound's probably going to take the brunt on Duke's anger for just being a giant robot, I expect Duke to just be kind of pouty during his meeting with Optimus. But, we might see some sort of alliance form, here.

And Quintesson War is still going. It'll probably be action packed, but the solicits don't really give me much to speculate on. I guess it sounds like they MIGHT be trying to make some of the Quintessons into actual, individual characters we can follow? That'd be a nice change of pace, if they can pull it off.

Void Rivals #25...came out two days ago! But, that was also Christmas Eve, so I only now got to the comic shop!

This is the start of the Quintesson War event and...honestly? There's a energy to this issue that Void Rivals has NEVER had. It's just peppier and more exciting. There's a spring in the step to this issue. It's nice to see, after it taking it slow for so long. I've said it before. And I may say it again. But, it feels like we're picking up the pace starting with this issue. Lots of action in this issue. Good stuff!

Honestly? This may even be a good point to either jump onboard or to jump back onboard if you already got off the ride. Stuff seems to be going down, here. And this is one of the franchises that Kirkman can really do ANYTHING with. So, we could very well be in a very different place, once this mini-event ends. Hopefully, Void Rivals really takes a chance to shake up the status quo, now that they've laid the foundation. But, so far, I'm enjoying this issue.

Also, there's die-cut covers available! They're not my thing, since I feel like the extra flaps and holes are just asking to get torn off or damaged. But, they probably will be collectible! Very 90s in a fun way.

Triangle-hat guy versus Triangle-hat guy! Let's ROCK! I've joked about it before, and frankly it kind of deserves it, since both of these characters have nigh-identical character designs. It's kind of hard to keep Zalilak and Proximus straight. But, on the other hand...this is actually a pretty fun fight. The action is drawn pretty well and the composition is pretty dynamic. This might be the best fight we've ever seen in Void Rivals. And Proximus does have pretty legitimate beef with Zalilak, since he basically made him Zerta's mind-slave, now. Kind of creepy when you think about it.

But, unfortunately, their fight is cut short by the arrival of one of the Quintesson screw-ships. Bores right into their planet. Don't you hate it when that happens? Well, I guess we're still having two Triangle-hatted guys in this story, for now. I really thought one of these guys would die, just to get rid of a design redundancy, but no.

Then we cut to Darak actually having a pretty heartfelt discussion with Handroid, of all characters. Handroid is starting to become self-aware the longer he's online, and he's starting to think about his own existence and what it means to be alive. Or even if a Handroid can be "alive". It actually goes deeper than you might think. Darak tells Handroid that if the Transformers can count as "alive", then why not a Handroid, too? It's...pretty touching. Weird. But, I'm here for it. I'm honestly not sure whrere Kirkman's going with this. Maybe Handroid will get a full body at some point? Or maybe Kirkman just wanted a chance to flesh out Handroid's point of view on all that's happening. Just to clear up that he's not Darak's "slave". I'm interested to see if we continue with this, or if this was just a one-time thing.

Meanwhiel, Grand General Dukan shows up and...he seems like a pretty jolly guy! I'm expecting a heel turn with him, or for him to be REALLY brutally violent later on. But, for right now, Darak's uncle seems pretty jovial and fun! I'm pretty sure they've mentioned this guy before, but I honestly forget.

Then, Darak takes a squadron of fighter pilots out to see what this "disturbance" they've picked up could be. And they get screwed! Uh...okay, I might want to rephrase that. More Quintesson screw-ships invade the planet! There's a nice sense of scale, here. You really get a chance to see how large these things are.

Meanwhile, Solila is still imprisoned in the Temple of Zerta's Light. Her Handroid offers to help break her arm to help her escape. But...um..."good" news? Turns out Zerta is going to break her out, so that Solila can help repel the Quintesson invasion. I feel like this could end with Solila getting mind-controlled by Zerta, but time will tell.

Over in the letters page, we actually get some interesting insight. It sounds like Kirkman really did just sideline Bumblebee and Snake Eyes because they had become too much of a focal point in other versions of these universes. Kirkman wanted to have these universes stand on their own, before they introduced some of the most popular players. It wasn't really a marketing stunt or a setup for a event at all. And as for a event between all the books, it does sound like one is coming, but it won't be very soon. And, it might be a one-time thing. That's all some...interesting restraint from Kirkman, really. I'm not sure it's a good idea. Especially since they marketed this right out of the gate as a shared universe. But, it's a interesting strategy, so they don't milk these franchises dry right away.

TF #28 out today.

Once again the "A" cover is misleading. At least Mirage and Bulkhead show up (unlike Soundwave last issue), but they're just background characters. Annoying.

Megatron is having a breakdown and lashing out for Dezimir, much to the confusion of the other Decepticons. He comes to his senses as Skywarp and the Combaticons return, and Megatron decides the time is ripe for an immediate attack.

We jump to the Autobots, where Arcee is also in the thick of it, though it turns out it's just part of her vision quest to become the new Magnus. Meanwhile, TC has a brief chat with Soundwave, and seems to actually have a bit of a breakthrough with the latter. Should be interesting to see where these two's allegiances end up going.

At the Shadow Watch base, Flagg and crew escort Mayhem out, but he suddenly activates his mask, kills several of the guards and departs in his Switchblade Bladejet helicopter (not a jet). Flagg realizes he's "backed the wrong horse" and orders someone to find him Matt Trakker.

Spike and Carly get a brief scene back at Spike's house, just enough to remind us they're still around (feels a bit like they've become surplus to requirements in the current storyline direction now IMO).

Arcee has now become Arcee Magnus, with a brand new buffer body (strikes me as a bit of a mashup between CW Elita One and Thunderclash). The Autobots prepare to undertake their first mission, and Arcee rattles off the roll call of active Autobots. Optimus notes that Trailbreaker is missing...

We cut to Trailbreaker in a forest, admiring the beauty. Suddenly, he's attacked by Megatron, who rather brutally crushes his head, then rips him apart so he can devour his spark, permanently killing him. Honestly, despite all the comments/complaints on some of the violence early in this series' run, I was more squicked out here. Just something really vicious in the way Megatron goes about it with glee on his face, and probably because it's robot-on-robot, and a named character. I'm really disappointed it's Trailerbreaker, actually, I'd much like to see him get a chance to shine (which is why I wasn't nearly as disappointed about Bumblebee, for example).

It didn't hit me until now, but Slingshot's death leaves a spot for a fifth jet... I wonder if we'll see Thundercracker interact with the Aerialbots much.

GI Joe #17 and Transformers #28 are both out!

Let's start with GI Joe #17. This issue sees the end of the Dreadnok War. And...I have some mixed feelings about it. There's a..."development", let's say, that feels a bit rushed. Not a fan of that. But, on the other hand, we get more fun fights. And even the Transformers side of things takes a little step forward. And there is the first appearance of a fan favorite character in this issue. I even recognize them this time! And I'm pretty sure most people will!

So, despite a..."hiccup" in the plot, let's say, I still think this was a pretty good issue. I'm rolling my eyes at the problem, moreso than being truly upset. And everything else balances out to being pretty good. This is probably going to be seen as a key issue as the plot moves forward, for various reasons.
Seriously? We have this whole event building up to the Dreadnoks getting revenge on Cobra Commander. We take several issues to build up to all this. And...all he has to do is even mention "money" and they ALL decide to join his side?! REALLY?! Ugh. That feels SO forced. The Dreadnoks flip over to Cobra Commander's side WAY too fast for my liking. I get that probably had to happen for plot reasons, but...oof. I wish they had found a better way to do that. I can't say it's out of character for them, because they ARE all about money and fun. But, I don't like it.

But, I guess it does give us a chance to have the Joes fight the Dreadnoks. Which is probably why this happened this way in the first place.

And in order to turn the tide, Clutch has Hound reveal himself to everyone. Well. That's going to have ramifications, down the line. Especially now that CC knows about it, too.

Duke is understandably NOT happy about all this. And now neither is Clutch's nose. OOH! He's going to be feeling that one, later. Duke is ready to throw down with this 20 ton titan, and I kind of want to see that.

And then we get the best part of the issue...the epilogue.

Hey, remember that fun little theory about General Flagg being Zartan that Agent X had a little bit ago?
https://www.allspark.com/home/threa...comics-from-skybound.1574/page-34#post-186690

Well...I can officially say *ahem*...You were close, Agent X! But, not quite close enough! *maniacal James Bond villain cackle*

Turns out Hawk has actually been Zartan this entire time! Or..at least for a while? I'm not quite clear on when the takoever happened. If we look back, I wonder if we can tell the exact moment it happened or not? But, this may be arguably be more interesting than Flagg being Zartan. Because, this means that GI Joe Dark...*ahem*...I mean Night Force is actually under the command of Zartan! I'm interested to see where this goes. I'm guessing this almost guarantees a Main Joes/Night Force fight down the line.

An now on to the Transformers #28. This is a pretty good issue! Stuff definitely happens in this issue. Especially that beginning and that ending. Kind of odd...but in a good way, I think. There's a few unexpected things happening in this issue that I didn't expect to see. If for some reason you haven't been reading this book, this issue might get you interested enough to see what's going on. Swings are being taken!

But, I will give a slight warning to some violence in the book. If you thought Kirkman was going to tone things down compared to what DWJ was doing...no...no, he will not be! Shame on you for even considering that, I guess.

I'd say this was a pretty good issue! I recommend it! Check it out!
We open the issue with kind of a odd moment. Megatron is raging at everyone around him and shouting at someone named "Dezimir". Now, if you don't remember, that was the name of the Quintesson who was torturing Megatron during his flashback in issue #19. So...either this is a PTSD flashback...OR...Megatron is still has a psychic link with the Quintessons via that Quintesson Matrix in his chest. Either way, that's interesting. Not as interesting as what happens at the end of the issue, but we'll be getting there.

Skywarp tells Megatron about Soundwave being held captive by the Autobots, and Megatron decides now's a good time to get him back.

Meanwhile, Arcee is undergoing a vision quest to prove herself worthy of inheriting the Magnus title. I can't QUITE tell, but it almost looks like she's fighting other members of the Wreckers. But, I can't be sure that's what they're going for or not. We even get a little list of duties that a "Magnus" has. So, that's kind of nice to know. Giving the Magnus a clear set of duties to be performed. It's not a lot, but I appreciate the world-building!

Meanwhile-er, Miles Mayhem reveals he has a fantastical superpowered m-m-m-mask! Along with a high-tech helicopter that obeys his remote commands! Who could have ever seen that coming? He uses his acid spray to escape the Joe base. Really making General Flagg look like a chump, here. They gave Miles WAAAY too much budget and WAAAAAAY too little oversight. Flagg really should have seen this coming. And now Miles is hunting for a certain Matt Tracker, who we've seen in a FCBD issue.

Also, Carly's moving in with Spike. Wow, that got serious fast! I guess both of them are fairly newly orphaned. I guess this is better than Carly being homeless. I feel like sitcom hijinks could be afoot, but maybe that would be in bad taste? Spike apparently isn't going to college. And...fair enough, really. I mean, there's a non-zero chance he could end up joining GI Joe before this universe is over. And they might prefer him having as little of a "record" that they have to erase, as possible, for his future secret missions.

And apparently, Arcee's test doesn't take very long, because she's already passed and she's gotten a new body! Would it be weird if someone called "dibs" on her old body? What are they going to do with that, anyway? I'm actually not clear on if this is just body-armor or if they gave her a entirely new body, honestly. It SOUNDS to me like it's a brand new body, since she isn't used to it, yet. But, it's a little weird they have enough materials laying around to just make a completely different body, after lacking resources for so long.

Either way "Arcee Magnus" is...a okay design. I kind of want to see her alt-mode to really make a final decision of if I like it or not. They made her "back fins" a LOT bigger in this new form. I think I like the antenna, but I think the shoulder-rockets just make her a little TOO similar to Ultra Magnus. I don't hate this new form, but I think it will take some getting used to. And...honestly...I wonder if it'll actually end up sticking around for very long or not. This feels like a...oddly impermanent new form, to me. We'll see.

Optimus asks Ultra Magnus to still stay as a Co-Magnus along with Arcee. Because having two Magni are better than one, I guess. Sounds like there have been two Magnuses...Magni..Magnivox,,,Whatever, before during wartime. So, we could be entering into more "Animated" territory, which I'm not against.

But, what's this? Trailbreaker's missing! Oh...he's just having a nice, peaceful walk in the woods. And, as we all know, nothing bad EVER happens to you while you're alone in the woods. Especially when you're taking in the serene beauty of nature. Really finding your zen...

...And then Megatron crushes Trailbreaker's head with one hand! And then Megatron ripes out his throat, like's he's a vampire! Apparently...sucking out his spark. Giving Trailbreaker a "permanent death"! Because...that's something Megatron can do, now! I guess!? Wow...that came out of NOWHERE! I think...I think I'd have liked it more if Megatron had little vampire fangs. Just to go ALL the way with it, if you're going to do that. So...I guess we can probably assume this is something caused by the Quintesson Matrix? That's probably a explanation. Unless Megatron's just crazy. Because, given everything that's happened to Megatron in this universe already, I couldn't blame him. But...both things could be true.

So...now Megatron can permanently kill other Transformers. Supposedly. I have my doubts that this will actually stick. At least, if Megatron kills anyone who's actually important. I'm sorry Trailbreaker fans, but he probably isn't going to be coming back, anytime soon. But, if he manages to kill someone like Optimus or especially Arcee, I don't see that sticking. I do feel like Arcee is especially lined up for the chopping block, given she has this brand new body she isn't used to yet. And she may slip up or get cocky around Megatron at the wrong time. We'll see, though.

But, man...what's going on with all the throat-biting in the Energon Universe, lately? First Cobra Commander, now Megatron. Who's next? Is Skuxxoid going to tear out another Skuxxoid's throat with his teeth...actually, yeah, that's almost guaranteed to happen, now that I think about it. But, still. Do we have to worry about something in the water at the Skybound offices? Do fans who want autographs have to start wearing cones or neck-braces at conventions, for their own protection?

Also, Shockwave's spark may be inside his single eye, according to the recap page. So, that's a interesting enough little piece of trivia.
