Meanwhile, Star Optimus Prime...

Or is that specifically to connect "Optimus Prime" to the Thirteen in the limited lore of the toyline, and not create any wrinkles about "who's Convoy?" ("He's just zis guy, you know?")
That one's probably more due to the fact that, despite his new look, he's still the same character as G1 Optimus Prime, so he has an official English name that Hasbro already uses, so they just slapped the "Star" prefix at the beginning of the established English name just like Takara slapped the "Star" prefix onto the established Japanese name.

Whereas Big Convoy is a different character who, for all these years, has never been given an official English name to make him sound more "Hasbro-y", and it's just that the current team at Hasbro has no qualms with keeping his original Japanese name intact this time, even if that means finally introducing the "Convoy" name for the first time at mass retail in Hasbro's markets (Legacy Leo Prime not being "Lio Convoy" was due to some trademark issues at the time that have since been cleared up).

What would they even call big convoy if they primed his name?
Oh, there have been many fan suggestions over the years. Mammoth Prime, Maximus Prime, Gigantimus Prime, Humungus Prime, any variations with "Primal" instead of "Prime", etc.

But none of them have really sounded all that compelling, IMHO. Granted, "Big Convoy" always sounded a little silly to English-speaking ears, but that ship sailed decades ago.

Just occuring to me now that "Star Upgrade Optimus Prime" might not have been too bad, and there's precedent for it too. Although hey, who cares, I know what I'm calling it regardless of what the box expects.

Agreed, I never understood the whole "But they should have named it-" things. If I ever think I have a better name I just change it to whatever I want, it's MY shelf...

I am considering Bruticus. Not sure. I've found most of the 'frame' stuff to be a bit dull and I did miss out on Liokaiser that I REALLY wanted due to medical messes, but it looks in the outline from Vortex that Bruticus's legs are different than the Stunticons and Airielbots (Brawn's turret is on the front) so it will have both a nice mix of alt-modes and won't be as flat-looking. I wish they'd teased the combined form.

Edit: And they sort of did, it's in the package shots from Comic Con, and Bruticus DOES have a front-mounted leg turret in the box art. Also looks to have the fake 'Blast Off Chest' but we'll see. I did have the Amazon Blast Off, though never the full team. The new one looks a LOT sleeker, though that's probably because it's not carrying combiner kibble. I assume most of it will be part of Onslaught.

According to the most recent pictures it's 99% to Botanica already, I wouldn't be surprised at all if it was one of the Amazon exclusives later or the like.

Amalgamous and Quintus both scratch that “weirdness spot” that I have that Beast Machines also scratches. I’m astonished at what they appear to have accomplished with Amalgamous at the price point.

Heh, I was thinking that Amalgamous is everything I loved about the BM Vehicon toys, and Quintus is everything I hated about the BM Maximal toys.

I'm curious to see how Razorclaw looks as an actual toy, but I'm thinking it'll be a pass since I already got Tigerhawk and the colors aren't wowing me (as shown). Which now makes me wonder if I should pick up Big Convoy or wait and see if they did a proper (Universe) Nemesis Prime repaint...

Had it been up to me, and if I had to stick to the naming conventions of the Archer era, I probably would have gone with something like "Stellarforce Optimus Prime", with "Stellarforce" also serving as a new Hasbro English name for the Battlestars team since a certain other sci-fi franchise would already have claim to the word "Battlestar" as a trademark.

I have four versions of the original Big Convoy mold. This new one has a very nice robot mode and I’m sure it’ll be much easier to transform. But I’m not sold on the beast mode. The flat brown and the sculpt are not exciting me.

Um, Big Convoy has always been a big fat Brown Mammoth in his beast mode, so why complain?

I wonder if they ever tossed the idea around of "Star Convoy Optimus Prime", with "Star Convoy" being like a function designation a la "Special Ops" Jazz. If nothing else, it'd be kind of funny.

Oh, that would have been hilarious as a double pun, what with him being a "space truck".

Don’t you go playing with my emotions like that…

Some images from the case, most of Studio Series looks to be prototypes, but Age of the Primes look pretty far along.

Razorclaw looks solid, and he even gets his little hat! Judging from photos (my Razorclaw is in storage somewhere), it looks like Hasbro kicked up the tone on the purple and brightened up the red details a bit, making both a bit bolder. I like it! Big Convoy seems to have gotten a few changes from his render, notably in that his head seems to be part of the same sprue as the Matrix cannon and feet/thighs, so he has a black helmet rather than blue. I can’t say I don’t like this. I’m old enough that I don’t mind Hasbro changing up the typical “Prime” color formula a bit and it still looks pretty nice.
But we’ll wait and see how both look once final production samples start getting out in the wild.

While it wasn't a thing for the G1 toy I hope Bruticus's various weapons can combine for the super robot, seeing as Ruination is probably a PulseCon combiner or something later, like they did with Toy Menasor. Though it wouldn't surprise me if the Brawl double-cannons somehow added to Onslaught's to make the Bruticus back cannons bigger rather than being hand-held.

I also hope the brown plastic on Blast-Off is less stress prone than my old Amazon one. That thing seemed to develop weird stress marks nearly instantly.

Wow seeing Quickstrike is crazy, the original toy was always very accurate to the cartoon, but he's bigger, has a waist that can move and is opaque.

Amalgamous and Quintus blew be away, they look great I can't wait to see all of Amalgomus' modes.

Big Convoy looks good, I never got any version of the original toy so I'm a bit excited for this.

And now that we have all of the Maximal show leaders can we please get a BWII Galvatron for the first time since the original? It's strange to me that he's always ignored.
