This court doesn't seem so "supreme" to me. I don't see any sour cream or guac anywhere.

Meanwhile....
Beijing ain't bowing to Trump, so he's going to just add more tariffs! Tariffs will go up tomorrow to...125%
Come Wednesday, the total average tariff on Chinese exports to the US will soar to nearly 125%.

The fact CNN can't even decide where the tariff amount will ultimately end up says a LOT about how the current administration is communicating this garbage.

And I'm sure the oil barons that are being excluded from the tariffs are making out great! Oh wait...

It is sort of hilarious that Trump's big bill of tax breaks and budget slashing is having trouble getting through the House because the Freedom Caucus doesn't think it slashes enough.

Framework, who produced modular and repairable laptops, has suspended sales of their lowest tier of 13” devices due to tariffs. Sales of the upper tiers remain open, for now.
UPDATE Edit: The Framework 12, their small sized 2 in 1, was slated to go on preorder tomorrow, the 9th. They have scuttled preorders for the US market due to the increase in Taiwan tariffs. Orders for other countries will proceed, but, like most tech stuff, the US status is “in flux”.

Razer, producers of high end gaming laptops and peripherals, suspended sales of a large swath of their laptops to the US from their online store

Just got this happy little missive from TFSource:

Dear Valued TFSource Customer,

First, thank you for being a part of the TFSource community. We don’t take your trust for granted — and we always want to be upfront with you, especially when changes are coming that affect your collecting experience.

Recently, the U.S. government announced new tariffs on imported plastic hobby toys, effective April 2 and April 9, 2025. These tariffs are significant, and they affect nearly every product we carry.

This is a fluid, government-driven situation, and like many other companies in our industry, TFSource is having to quickly react and adapt to these changes in real time. We’re hopeful the current administration will reach agreements with the affected countries — which could lead to reduced or even eliminated tariffs in the future. In the meantime, we want to be transparent about how this impacts pricing and availability moving forward.

What’s Happening
The new tariff rates are now being applied and vary depending on the country of origin:
  • China: 104%
  • Vietnam: 46%
  • Japan: 24%
Because so much of the collectible toy world is sourced from these regions, these changes are hitting our entire industry — including TFSource. Nearly all of our items are sourced from these regions. Once items arrive in the U.S., Customs applies these new tariffs, which must be paid before we can receive and ship the goods. This additional cost is substantial, and unfortunately unavoidable, making it extremely difficult for TFSource to absorb the cost fully.

Impact on Pricing
The good news is that all in stock or currently domestic in transit products will not be impacted by current tariffs. Until then TFSource has no choice but to increase prices on many upcoming preorder items, both new and previously announced. This includes existing preorders that have not yet arrived or cleared U.S. Customs. We understand this is disappointing, and we want to be transparent: honoring earlier preorder pricing on many items is no longer feasible, as doing so would result in unsustainable losses for the company.

We know this may be frustrating news, and we didn’t make this decision lightly. We’re doing everything we can to manage the impact, including:
  • Absorbing costs wherever possible
  • Minimizing increases on in-stock items (while inventory lasts)
  • Continuing to offer Free Shipping, Source Points and loyalty rewards through TFSourceVIP
We know this isn’t the kind of update anyone wants to hear, and we understand the frustration. Our goal is always to support our fellow collectors and maintain the quality, service, and selection that brought you to TFSource in the first place - even in challenging times like these.

We’ll continue to keep you informed with any further updates and are working hard to manage these changes with as little disruption to your experience as possible.

We're hopeful that this situation will improve in the coming months. As always, we'll adapt quickly to any positive developments — including potential tariff reductions — and do everything we can to pass those benefits back to our loyal customers.

Thank you for sticking with us through this — and for being part of a community that continues to inspire our team every day.

With appreciation,
The TFSource Team

I went ahead and put in orders for some stuff I hadn't planned on buying because of these sorts of issues. Managed to get a good deal on an open box Asus Vivobook from Best Buy ($450 for Core 5 Ultra Series 2, 16GB Ram, 512 SSD and OLED screen). Might do a few early toy orders to secure pricing. I figure the summer stuff is "in country", but stuff for the fall?

That may be a problem.

I'm really, REALLY glad that my old PC literally fried a fan-port 2 years ago and I had to build a new PC. Didn't seem like good timing, but it was sandwiched between a whole host of PC component issues of various types that I managed to avoid largely out of luck, and now we have this. I do need to buy a new M.2 SSD for a laptop I was given, and I need to do that very soon, but otherwise I'm good for a while. *knocks on wood*

Anyway, time to share this. From From Bob Woodward's, Fear: Trump in the White House:

"Why don't we manufacture things at home?" Lindsey asked. "We're a manufacturing country."

Of course the United States manufactured things, but reality did not match the vision in Trump's mind. The president clung to an outdated view of America—locomotives, factories with huge smokestacks, workers busy on assembly lines.

Cohn assembled every piece of economic data available to show that American workers did not aspire to work in assembly factories.

Each month Cohn brought Trump the latest Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey, called JOLTS, conducted by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. He realized he was being an asshole by rubbing it in because each month was basically the same, but he didn't care.

"Mr. President, can I show this to you?" Cohn fanned out the pages of data in front of the president. "See, the biggest leavers of jobs—people leaving voluntarily—was from manufacturing."

"I don't get it," Trump said.

Cohn tried to explain: "I can sit in a nice office with air conditioning and a desk, or stand on my feet eight hours a day. Which one would you do for the same pay?"

Cohn added, "People don't want to stand in front of a 2,000 degree blast furnace. People don't want to go into coal mines and get black lung. For the same dollars or equal dollars, they're going to choose something else."

Trump wasn't buying it.

Several times Cohn just asked the president, "Why do you have these views?"

"I just do," Trump replied. "I've had these views for 30 years."

"That doesn't mean they're right," Cohn said. "I had the view for 15 years I could play professional football. It doesn't mean I was right."

90 day "pause" on everyone but China, who goes up to 125%. We'll see if it stays a pause, but there's going to be a lot of warehouses getting crammed to the brim in the next three months. Also frankly surprised he hasn't just called for a halt entirely on all shipping to/from China - it seems like the natural endpoint at this rate.

The massive reciprocal tariffs are on pause for 90 days, but the new 10% baseline remains in effect. Except for China, which is up to 125% plus sector specific tariffs.
The brown nosers in the administration or playing this up as some sort of "master plan", but I firmly believe that somebody(s) finally put their foot down after the market tumbled. As stated in the report, Trump's day by day whims on global economic policy isn't going to be tolerated. Who is going to want to negotiate trade deals when the dumbass in chief might throw it all out based on the whims of the social media personality blowing him that night?

The thing with this is that so much comes from China, even components for things like "American" cars. Wall Street is celebrating, but on Main Street, things have only gotten worse. Pretty much everything is still going to skyrocket in price.

Nothing good will ever come from this for anyone but the oligarchy.
