The GOP has gotten this idea into its head ever since Reagan that it's simply the rightful ruling party of America, and that some grave injustice has been done every time they lose an election.

Every time they lose, they go more insane. After 1992, they put themselves on a war footing with Newt Gingrich, and they started spreading wild conspiracy theories about Clinton murdering people. The right-wing militia movement began growing rapidly, culminating in the 1995 Oklahoma terrorist bombing. After 2008, they formed the Tea Party and went full white-nationalist. Gun sales went through the roof. And after 2020, they went so insane that they attempted to overthrow America's entire system of government.

They would have done something terrible if Clinton had won in 2016. I can't say exactly what it would have been, but I'm sure it would have been bad. They don't know how to lose gracefully. They just don't. Unless someone can bring them back from the brink, this shit is just how it's going to be from now on.

The Terran Empire didn't start until after Zefram and his followers killed the crew of the T'Plana-Hath and took possession of it. We've still got around 40 years of incompetent fascists first.

Did it? I thought the opening scenes of IAMD showed a more violent history than we experienced?

But yeah I wouldn’t be surprised if this is in fact the MU.

It always comes back to Reagan, doesn't it? Seriously, that man just destroyed hope for every generation after didn't he?
I'm willing to concede that Reagan himself wasn't really the mastermind behind Reaganomics. He was just the salesman.

Once again proving they're more "evil" than "stupid"

On Tuesday, Louisiana Rep. Mike Johnson introduced H.R. 9197, or the “Stop the Sexualization of Children Act,” which if passed would prohibit the use of federal dollars to fund “any sexually-oriented program, event, or literature for children under the age of 10” — which, in practice, will likely mean anything related to LGBTQ+ people.

The bill defines “sexually-oriented” in what appears to be an intentionally broad way. In addition to “lewd or lascivious” description of genitalia, the bill also targets “any topic involving gender identity, gender dysphoria, transgenderism, sexual orientation, or related subjects,” treating any discussion of gender or sexual identity as the equivalent of exposing children to pornography. Much like Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” law, H.R. 9197 seems deliberately vague, allowing for conservative politicians and judges to crack down on LGBTQ+ speech, education, and expression, particularly that of transgender people, while leaving hetero displays of sexual desire unperturbed.

We all knew that calling her "one of the good ones" is grading on a sharp curve. Just because she didn't agree with Trump about installing him as dictator doesn't mean she didn't agree with everything else he's about.

It's a low bar to clear, and only three members of her own party cleared it. Some might take that as a sign that the Democrats ought to stage a coup of their own aimed at eradicating the Republicans and anyone who'll stand up for them. Especially since all three of those people have already been primaried out.

I don't know if anything exemplifies the dysfunction of American politics more than the fact that Republicans are successfully distracting from their own support of fascism by blaming high gas prices on the Green New Deal which is not a law and never existed as anything other than a proposal.

Why is it such a great example of political dysfunction? Because Republicans KNOW the Green New Deal doesn't really exist in law or public policy, but they also know their voters are too stupid to realize that, so they shamelessly use it anyway, and it works.

Somewhere along the line, conservatives realized that you can pull the Overton window to the right by simply accusing centrists of being "far-left". Over and over and over, on every radio and TV station and newspaper that you control.

Eventually, people start believing it. They start believing that a centrist is "far left", so that when they see an actual leftist, they think he's a dangerous extremist who should be locked up.
