...Let me get this straight. This guy thinks this sentence:

Dominic Raab had already announced in October that trans women with male genitalia or who had committed sexual offences would not be allowed in women’s prisons.

Matches with this one:

"We want to have a liberal, sensitive, tolerant approach to the LGBT community as a whole and in particular the trans community who suffer a lot in this country and have high levels of challenges," Raab [said.]

So he thinks he's being "liberal, sensitive, tolerant" for doing THIS? And he thinks he understands what the trans community goes through and gets to speak of it? And to try to get points for it or something?

I think if I said how I felt about the scumbag it would be breaking the rules of the board. I'll leave it there.

LGBTQ rights: Japan PM under fire for same-sex marriage remarks

Japan's Prime Minister Fumio Kishida has been criticised for saying the country's ban on same-sex marriage is not discriminatory.

Weeks ago, he apologised to the LGBTQ community over homophobic comments made by an aide who has since been sacked.

Mr Kishida's party is under growing pressure to improve LGBTQ rights, as more Japanese support same-sex marriage.

Japan remains the only G7 country that doesn't recognise such unions.

When asked by an opposition lawmaker if the country's existing law constituted discrimination, the PM said on Tuesday: "I don't think disallowing same-sex couples to marry is unjust discrimination by the state."..

At least it's not as bad as Uganda (which I won't share as it's REALLY bad)...

Can we all pls we stop with the trans tragedy porn that’s permeated this thread? I loved the idea of this thread but honestly I barely come here anymore because every time I come here it’s “trans violence this” and “anti-trans laws ban your existence back to the stonewall era that”. My husband works in LGBTQ+ political advocacy and I work in sexual and gender minority health research so I am CONSTANTLY bombarded with the politics of my existence, day in and day out… except I get paid for it. And then I come home and I get shit for being trans on the daily from my roommates. I come to this thread for a cute and happy queer escape from all that, bc queers and Transformers. And now it’s become nothing in here but more of the same. I’m not being paid to look at the shit in this thread. I’m pretty well aware I can be rounded up and thrown in jail in certain states now. I know I can lose my healthcare and home at the drop of a hat any day now. I know I can get killed if I come off as attractive to the wrong person.

This thread didn't seem (to me) to get that much in the way of posts recently, so I've been trying to add any topical news that I've come across. I wasn't sure if this was the right place to post stuff and I've tried to hide anything that I thought was potentially too upsetting behind spoiler tags (and after your feedback, I've done the same for some more of my posts above and at any other pages retroactively).

Perhaps, in the future, I'll just post progressive news articles, rather than the gloomy ones? Would that be more useful/relevant/helpful? What do you think?

I'm not sure we really need a news feed? Like we're kinda front and center in the whole deal. It's been feeling kinda weird to have a regular stream of LGBT news, good or bad. Especially when it seems like it comes with implicit pressure to commentate. We're all probably about as tuned in to our respective interest groups as we want to be.

AFAIK this was meant more for LGBT members of the forum to discuss our lives and share personal experiences. Admittedly, it's been pretty quiet lately, but *shrugs* so it goes.

It was appreciated while you did it though. Mainstream media doesn't cover much of this, and you get even less of it when you're not in the US. Canada has it's problems and shortcomings, but the US is steamrolling right into a humanitarian crisis, if they haven't already run it over.

Thank you for hearing me. I’ve heard mentions earlier way back when that many have stopped coming here for the reason I mentioned, in that it’s just a constant flow of, “Look how you can and have died today! Sponsored by Florida, Texas and Coco-Cola!” and it’s beyond exhausting at this point. And it’s one thing if people in our community want to bring up a thing and talk about how it personally affects them; I have all the spoons all day to try to help a fellow queer through their tough days. But when others who are usually well-meaning straight allies share our stories to us it’s usually along the lines of using it as a self-aggrandizing intellectual exercise. Those who are directly dealing with the consequences of all this shit day-in, day-out do NOT care to hear about what those outside our community think we should respond or not to and how. About how they think we should or shouldn’t be treated. Because though it may be an intellectual exercise for them, those who have the privilege to think about others’ life and death in the abstract, it’s our LIVES, and I for one don’t appreciate whether or not I will live or die being appraised like the director commentary setting of a movie on a DVD.

I'm not fond of how tight leggings are, and will typically only wear them as an underlayer for warmth.

Now if only I can get the leg warmers to not slide off my scrawny legs when I walk

Have you tried sock garters or garter belts? You could also get wide elastic tape (sold at craft stores) and put it over the socks to help them stay put.

Heh, hear that, but I also tinker around with electronics, so between the biting and need for a bit of precision in manipulating wires, soldering irons and such, I fear I'm in the same boat.

Elastic tape I'm familiar with from my many, many visits to the hospital. Assuming it's what I think it is, anyway. I can get that in black and it'll probably be pretty comfortable.

You might be thinking of medical tape that sticks to itself. That probably won't be strong enough.
I was thinking something Like this. Maybe a strip of elastic sewn onto velcro so it can be adjusted on the go. Non-roll elastic is less likely to twist on you. I'm just not sure how well it would hold up not being connected to a waist band. If you're not confident trying to make it yourself, there are sock garters/bands that just go around the thighs, like this one. An alternative would be clips like this that attach to undergarments.

For the nail biting, yeah, def don't want to chew nail polish or eat fake nails. Out of curiosity, I took a look and apparently there's nail conditioners that help discourage nail biting with bitter tastes.

I very rarely paint my nails. I love the color options but the smell is bad and it doesn't last too long. Plus, I prefer to keep my nails short.
