what sucks about having an entire party of unfettered, psychopathic Christofascists on one side and a party of mostly milquetoast, gutless neolibs on the other is that the fascists never compromise on anything, but will force the neolibs to compromise to their demands by holding an entire country hostage. what sucks even more is that since what the GQP is doing here is technically not illegal, the dems can't just call in snipers to end the literal hostage situation.

also, establishment democrats genuinely can't comprehend the fact that the GQP are all putin bootlickers by now who actively want him to genocide Ukraine out of existence, and will most likely just move the goalposts if the dems cave to their terms to ensure that more people die.

What really terrifies me about the republicans right now is that they're functionally still in the "precedent" phase... so what is it that they want to do that putin has to win in ukraine for them to justify?

In response to a "what has Biden even done?" question on another message forum, I asked ChatGPT that very question and this is what it gave me:

As of 2023, the Biden administration has achieved several notable accomplishments:

1. Economic Growth: The economy under President Biden experienced significant growth, with real GDP increasing by 5.8% in 2021 and 1.9% in 2022, surpassing economists' expectations.

2. Manufacturing and Infrastructure Investment: The administration spurred a manufacturing boom and made historic investments in infrastructure, including significant upgrades to the nation's roads, bridges, and clean energy projects.

3. Healthcare Cost Reduction: Legislation was enacted to lower healthcare and prescription drug costs for American families.

4. Support for Unions and Worker Empowerment: Actions were taken to strengthen unions, resulting in a 53% increase in petitions for union representation elections in the private sector in 2022.

5. COVID-19 Pandemic Response: The administration's response to the pandemic helped reduce COVID-19 deaths by over 80%, and made vaccines and treatments widely available.

6. Improved Household Economic Security: Policies enacted led to improved financial security for households, with reductions in healthcare costs and the lowest uninsured rate on record in 2022.

7. Low Unemployment and Job Creation: In 2022, the unemployment rate averaged 3.6%, the lowest since 1969, and monthly job creation averaged 400,000 jobs.

8. Reduction of Child Poverty: The American Rescue Plan Act included measures expected to drastically reduce child poverty.

9. Passage of the CHIPS Act: This act aims to boost the domestic semiconductor industry, a crucial sector for modern technology and national security. It provides funding and incentives for semiconductor manufacturing and research in the United States.

10. Expansion of Benefits for Veterans: The PACT Act, the most significant expansion of benefits for toxic-exposed veterans in over 30 years, was signed into law.

11. Gun Violence Reduction Legislation: The Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, the first major piece of gun safety legislation in three decades, was enacted.

12. Protection of Marriage Equality: Legislation was passed to protect marriage for same-sex and interracial couples.

13. Diverse Judicial Appointments: President Biden confirmed Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court and appointed a record number of diverse federal judges.

14. International Support for Ukraine: Biden rallied international support for Ukraine in response to Russian aggression.

15. Strengthened Global Alliances and Partnerships: Focused efforts were made to strengthen alliances and partnerships worldwide.

16. Improving Labor Force Participation: The administration has seen improvements in labor force participation.

17. Consumer Confidence: Healthy levels of consumer confidence have been maintained during Biden's tenure.

18. Broadband Accessibility Improvements: Efforts were made to make broadband more accessible, impacting community infrastructure and connectivity.

19. Wage Growth Amidst Inflation: Despite inflation, there was significant wage growth, with worker wages and benefits increasing at the fastest rate in at least 20 years.

20. Supply Chain Improvements: The administration worked to improve supply chain operations, including moving ports to 24/7 operations and passing the bipartisan Ocean Shipping Reform Act.

This list reflects a range of efforts in economic policy, healthcare, infrastructure, social issues, and international relations.

Their response? "Yeah, well, he's senile!"

Our options are an old man who should be in retirement but is generally trying to do his best, or an old man who should be in a dementia ward (and also federal prison) and is trying to line his own pockets at the expense of everyone and everything around him.

Next time a Republican says "drill, baby, drill!" or blames Biden for the high gas prices...

And so at this point, the United States, as you mentioned, is producing about 13.5 million barrels a day, and we're heading towards 14 million barrels a day. That is more oil than any country in the world. That is a record for the United States, and it may well be the record for any country in the world.

Pelosi, who made the remarks in a CNN interview, provided no evidence for her claims. She was asked whether opposition to President Joe Biden's policy in the war in Gaza could hurt the Democrat in November's presidential election.
What a malformed question. The normal phrasing would be whether the policy itself hurts the Democrats.

"For them to call for a ceasefire is Mr. Putin's message, Mr. Putin's message. Make no mistake, this is directly connected to what he (Russian President Vladimir Putin) would like to see," Pelosi told CNN.
How?
From Putin's perspective, the war in Gaza is a distraction that reduces focus on the war in Ukraine.

Eh... making israel stop and give concessions to the terrorist organization that abducted citizens plays into precedent that putin would gladly love to exploit.

Our politicians don't debate policy anymore. One side just waves around what I call the Inadmissibility Fallacy until the other side runs out of arguments. They can word it however they like. It's a statement that means we don't need to know whether the stated merits for or against a policy are true or not.

The point being, she's not playing the "Putin wants that" card because it makes any particular sense. She just thinks it's a magic spell that means we don't need to discuss any arguments in favor of a ceasefire. You could present anything in favor of a ceasefire. Anything. We don't need to know whether you have a good point or not. It doesn't matter. Putin wants that.

They all do it. It's what Republicans meant in the Bush years when they just vomited buzzwords about patriotism in response to any challenge to their policies. It didn't mean any arguments raised against their policies were wrong. It meant we didn't need to know whether the arguments were right or wrong. We're not going to discuss it. We gotta support the troops. It's what Republicans mean when they cry "Socialism!" all the time. If you do the math and show that single payer is actually doable and they cry "Socialism!" they don't mean you didn't get the math right. They mean we don't need to know whether or not you got the math right. It's inadmissible. It doesn't count. It's socialism. That's not the American way.

And it's what Democrats today mean when the play the Russia card. If they don't want to debate the merits of something, it's what Putin wants.

Once you're watching for it you will catch our politicians doing it all day long.

Trouble is, that practice isn't going to work for Democrats because they aren't backed up by a horde of zombies who'll accept buzzwords as a substitute for real answers and solutions. Oh sure, there are far-left types on social media who display zombie-like behavior, but they hate mainstream Democrats as much as the Republicans do.

The Republicans who joined in voting to expel Santos are just going to take this as a sign to never do that again.
