Bumblebee Movie: John Cena Cast, New Release Date, First Plot Details

Via The Hollywood Reporter comes the news that wrestling superstar and Make-a-Wish record-breaker John Cena has joined the cast of Transformers Universe: Bumblebee, the 2018 spin-off of the live-action film series! Read on for the details!

Cena is described as playing a “lead role”, alongside Hailee Steinfeld’s main character and a host of other actors, including Jorge Lendeborg, Jason Drucker, Abby Quinn, Rachel Crow, Ricardo Hoyos and Gracie Dzienny.

Accompanying the article is the first plot synopsis for the film:

The story is set in the year 1987, where Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small California beach town. Charlie (Steinfeld), on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary yellow VW bug.

The film began filming today in California, and additional details of the production staff have also been announced: in addition to previously-announced director Travis Knight (of Kubo and the Two Strings fame), we learn that Christina Hodson wrote the script, Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Michael Bay will serve as producers, and Steven Spielberg, Brian Goldner, Mark Vahradian and Chris Brigham will executive produce.

Finally, the film’s release date has been shifted back from 31st July 2018 to 21st December 2018.
