Dai Atlas’ Rival Metrotitan Emerges!
Metrotitan is here! Finally some love for the Destrons in Zone, with an elaborate set-up for Metrotitan and a bit of back story as well. Interesting that Metrotitan’s name was derived from the Saturnian moon Titan, in keeping with the planetary theme of Zone. Magami Ban’s art of the Metrosquad in the sidebar gives great detail to the team, but it’s interesting to note that the central art of Metrotitan doesn’t seem to be by Magami, as it’s a completely different (although still awesome) set of character designs. Actually, the art seems most similar to the animation-style art of Dai Atlas on the previous page, which was created by Toei Pictures for the Zone OVA. (Check out the way the joints on the knuckles are drawn for both characters.) This gives evidence to the theories that actual preparations had been made for following episodes of the Zone OVA. Instead of episodic character showcases, the narrative shifts into a nice story mode here with Metrotitan bearing down on the moonbase. Those who are anticipating seeing him wreak havoc next month won’t be let down!
