The Fossilizers are abominations created by Megatron.
Paleotrex, Ractonite and Skelivore are all loyal Predacons.
Wingfinger defected to the maximals after witnessing the Predacons distaste for his fossilized family (Waspinator broke one)
Dracodon was exiled because his radioactive nature was causing predacon technology to malfunction
Tricranius defected as he had no fear of Megatron, his Magmatic nature makes him immune to any physical damage (literally too hot to be touched, plasma weapons are ineffective) Tricranius later joins the Maximals to stop Megatron from destroying the prehistoric Earth.

For fun, the other Fossilizers
Paleotrex is a viscous berzerker who quickly tears apart their opposition
Ractonite makes up for a lack in speed with a thick and dense armor, he addresses Megatron as "my King" and kneels in his presence. His main duty is to guard the Dark-Syde
Skelivore was created from a T-rex fossil partially merged with a vein of energon. Due to their raw energon nature, when their parts are utilized by another bot that bot becomes immune to raw energon overloads. Skelivore can also regenerate any lost parts by just sticking their damaged appendages into a chunk of raw energon and it would form a new part.

Weaver (Toy Black Arachnia) created by Tarantulas as a "more loyal" Black Arachnia, after some fail safeing input by Megatron, Weaver came online as a 100% loyal Predacon, to Megatron. She can weave near invisible webs that are almost indestructible (remember, fire kills things!) and while in spider mode she is inaudible, which carries over to her robot mode as she rarely speaks. Her first orders from Megatron were to "test" her loyalty where she was ordered to not only become a close partner of Tarantulas, but to kill him when he least expected it. She followed through perfectly, leaving no trace of Tarantulas except for his head, which was delivered to Megatron.

Next one:
Shadow Panther
Function: Guerilla Warfare Soldier
Shadow Panther lives up to his name, sticking to the shadows and patiently waiting to strike his foes. Armed with a sniper rifle and tail whip, he uses his surroundings to create convincing traps and ambushes for unsuspecting Maximals. His face mask acts as a predator-like thermal visor, allowing him to see Maximals from upwards of one mile in distance through solid objects. His highest accomplishment was securing the stasis pod that would later become Nemesis Primal.

I might be biased, but there has to be at least once one universe apart from the IDW continuity where Thundercracker's doubts over being a Decepticon gradually outweigh his devotion to the cause, prompting him to defect to the Autobots.

The character of Jolt from the movies, is a time traveller from a possible distant future where the cons have pretty much won the war and he on a mission to try and prevent this outcome but he has a foe he seeks in the form of Teradive, who seeks to wipe out the Autobot cause completely before it gets to be a problem!

Shockwave to many Autobots is said to be immortal because when one is proclaimed dead, another appears a short time later in a new body, thus given rise to the idea that he is immortal and cannot stay dead, however the truth is, that logic dictated to acomplish all of his goals, he had to create clones of himself and only the original Shockwave knows how many verisons of him exist!

Soundblaster, was Shockwave's first clone before he prefected the process which gave rise to the many Shockwaves but when Megatron learned of the cloning process, he took a simple minded follower and gave him the honour of being copied, over and over again, thus giving the decepticons a numberical advantage over the Autobots!

Scourge, while normally he has three followers known only as Sweeps, he has a portable cloning device given to him by Unicron upon his rebirth as Scrouge, however, it has its draw backs, so when one Sweep is killed, he can create another Sweep but Unicron purposely installed a limit to prevent him from creating a force that could oppose him one day and it drains his energon when he uses the device and none of the Sweeps can reproduce beyond the limit of four, including Scrouge!

Trying to sort through my files on a laptop without a mouse is nightmarish, but here're some brief notes:

What Transformers call "energon" is actually available in a wide array of different compositions (in the same way that we use "nickel" to refer to a coin that is actually made of nickel and a bunch of additives). Different forms of energon have different energy densities --some give more power, others "taste" different. Certain impurities will affect a TF's onboard processing systems (resulting in symptoms similar to drunkenness, hyperactivity [sugar-rush], emotional imbalance [Ratchet's Synth-En], mode-lock [energon spiked with nucleon], or even chemical dependency).

Rare, naturally-occuring energon is dangerously pure, and needs to be processed (cut with some other substance) with something else before it can be safely consumed. This is the kind of energon (Solitarium) that can be used in weapons (delivering a powerful charge even as it cuts, like a blade attached to a stun-gun).

While Transformers can generally only absorb useful energy from energon, they are also capable of ingesting many other substances (from scrap metal to crude oil to ethanol) despite their lack of nutritional value (in the same way that humans can consume beer, nachos, and cotton candy without gaining any useful nourishment). Transformers can also use external means to regulate temperatures (drinking heated fluids when operating in sub-zero temperatures, or needing refrigerated coolant when operating in a desert at high noon).

THIS is a premise I am using currently in my fanfic, only slightly twerked where G1 shockwave is using iterations of himself from other timelines (and 3rd party toys)

Similarly:

When Megatron left aboard the Nemesis, Cybertron wasn't entirely in Decepticon control; Shockwave's assignment was to crush the Autobot resistance (led by Ultra Magnus and Elita-1). He commanded several legions of Decepticons (basically, everyone who wasn't aboard the Nemesis).

Shockwave made a regular practice of uploading a duplicate of his core consciousness and datatracks to a secure disk, as a failsafe backup. He told others to do the same (naturally, no one actually listened to him :cautious: ).

As the war on Cybertron grew more desperate, and the Energon Crisis grew more intense, Shockwave was the one who implemented the Great Shutdown --a logical decision to preserve the last of the planet's energon. Naturally, a few of his subordinates (Straxus, Thunderwing, etc) failed to listen to logic, and started their own splinter groups.

Fed up with irrationality and incompetence, Shockwave decided to abandon the use of self-aware troops, and rely on drones --the Energon Shockblast body-type (cast in his own image because, well, why mess with perfection?).

After Optimus Prime and Megatron reappeared, the Decepticon hold on Cybertron weakened, and during Unicron's attack, Shockwave was killed.

Sometime after this, Bugly used one of Shockwave's sparkless drones, his datacore backup, and a sacrificial spark (ripped from an Autobot victim named Longarm), and an "ancient" "mystical" text (instructions that Shockwave had deliberately left where someone gullible would find them) to resurrect Shockwave.

With the Autobots regaining control of Cybertron, Shockwave constructed a new body, one equipped with dual robot modes (Animated Shockwave), which he used to infiltrate the Autobot command structure as Longarm. Created in a rush, this body was limited and relatively weak, and its mental processors caused Shockwave to manifest "echoes" of Longarm's personality (inhibiting his function by eroding his logic).

After being rescued from Autobot custody (post-Animated), the now-heavily-damaged Shockwave was finally able to construct a proper body for himself --one based on his original chassis, but incorporating much more advanced technology (Prime Shockwave).

The Fossilizer combiner is predominantly brown, grey, white and yellow. Its components are a land predator, land herbivore, and aerial predator. I'm calling it MagnaOss.

My daughter also suggested, more simply, Magnoss.

"Descent" is a pretty new concept for Transformers; the Forged have no concept of it. Forges were black-box technology; raw material went in, a conscious, fully-self-actualized Transformer came out. Thirteen Forges each produced one particular style of Cybertronian, so the only distinctions were by generation and line.

It was only when cold construction became an option that different degrees of connection became possible.

Descent by spark: Sparks can be split or siphoned (a portion of energy being drained from multiple sources to create a new spark). The resulting entity is said to be the offspring of the original parent.

Descent by body: a body can be manufactured based on a pre-existing body. The new Transformer is said to be a descendant or the original (much like how, say, modern Gundams could be said to be descendants of the RX-78).

Descent by code: Programming a neural processor is extremely difficult --it is far easier to clone an existing AI core. The resulting consciousness is said to be the offspring of the original parent. A complication here is that a Transformer's code is heuristic --it rewrites itself based on individual experience, so copying a particular individual's operating code won't necessarily get you the "original" function-aligned code that you would get from a Forge. This wasn't widely known at first, which ended up with a lot of "malfunctions" --someone with the body of a warrior who just wants to build things, or a Seeker who is afraid of heights, or a monstrous Predacon with a genius IQ --all of which led to the stereotype of cold-constructed people being "imperfect."

Given how easily Transformers can change bodies (through reformatting or reconstruction), "descent" can be more fluid than it is for humans. An "adult" Transformer can become the descendant of another --as when Twirl became the "daughter" of Redline and Falcia.

Each of these things has an effect on a Transformer's identity;
In addition to dictating a Transformer's personality-type, the spark has a magnetic polarity, which creates a binary "gender-like" divide (of course, some sparks can flip polarities, or a Transformer might contain multiple sparks).

Modern Cybertronian society still has a strong Functionist bent, so the body that you inhabit still decides who you associate with, how others think of you, and what sort of experiences you'll have.

Code is the equivalent of upbringing, both in the sense of education (knowing how to read/write/speak/walk/transform/groom themselves, etc) and in the sense of cultural traditions (going back to functionism; Constructicons want to create things, Protectobots are civic-minded, Thetacons always keep their word, etc).

I had some thoughts in regards to Shatterglass Optimus's origins, what I got in mind is, during his time as Orion Pax, he had not only watched the crouption of the groverment, but felt powerless, also around this time he is dating Elita One, but the Matrix of chaos begins to call out to him and whispers in his ear, driving Orion furrier down the dark path, but to truly gain the Matrix power, it gives him a test, to obtain the power he desires, he must make a offering in the form of killing Elita, at first he is unsure if he should do it or not but his desire for power overrides common sense and he does the deed, killing Elita and thus the matrix takes him as its wielder and fully croupts Orion as he is reborn as Optimus prime, future tyrant of Cybertron!

I'm doing something similar to this in my new canon. Inspired by Legacy, I've gone with the idea that Shockwave have copied and activated 4 other versions of himself. WFC, Siege, Energon and Prime. Together they amassed a large Vehicon drone army, complete with Generals and Lieutenants. As well as Drones based off of their own design. (Shackwave)

Still working it all out in my head but it does lead to a new origin story for Galvatron, Scourge and Cyclonus.

Maybe they are fallen soldiers revived and rebuilt by Shockwave, only for Galvatron to awaken to a mind of his own and kill one of the Shockwaves?
