Winter Storm 2026

Thread to check in for this big storm hitting the USA. Precipitation hasn't started here and is scheduled for tonight. I think I should be fine as long as we don't lose power.

Same here. Original forecast had us getting mostly snow, now it seems to be about an even mix of snow and ice(would have preferred just the snow). Stay safe and warm everyone.

Today was mostly just really cold. The snow should hit tomorrow. At least we don't have to go anywhere.

Just don’t forget that even when the precipitation is done, this front is being followed by a harsh blast of Canadian arctic air. Especially in the Midwest to the Plains, where real temps will be low single digits as far south as northern Texas. The low temp here in southern OK tomorrow night/tonight at one point was slated to be -1 REAL TEMP. It’s been revised to a “warmer” 3.

This cold air will persist for most of the week, meaning snow and ice will be lingering for a few days in a LOT of places.

I work at a hospital. We don’t close. I’m just glad I got a little crossover/SUV that has enough clearance to trudge through the several inches of snow we got here. Unlike up north, down here, there isn’t much in place to address issues like this, especially for those “once or twice a decade” events like this.

Lingering snow and ice isn't my main worry. I'm worried about melt and refreeze since it harder to see and thus more dangerous to drive/walk on.
Yea, we've already gotten 6 inches of snow here and it's switching over to sleet and freezing rain this afternoon. It's also supposed to get above freezing later today but drop back down late tonight and into tomorrow. I'm glad they've told us to work from home tomorrow. The roads are gonna be a disaster and likely will be until Wednesday, given it's not supposed to get above 25 F again until February....

This much snow/ice has completely shut down the city. Oh the joys of Texas living.

Got the call just a bit a go, they are doing an emergency closure of the offices so we won't even be working from home. I did volunteer to take calls, though. They are paying me extra for it, so win-win on that front. It's gone to mostly sleet here now. Thankfully hasn't switched over to freezing rain yet.

Got about a foot so far up here in RI. Good weather to stay in and catch up on video games.

Work said we'd be starting two hours late tomorrow to give the plows time to work, and we'll get a text if they decide to just cancel entirely. And that because of the weather, there'll be no penalties for calling out, since it's out of our control. We'll see how the morning goes.

Snow here in the midwest varied depending on where you were. Since security doesn't get weather days off and I was the Lt for the weekend, I slept at the office so I didn't have to drive 50 miles home after my shifts.

Wasn't great, but wasn't terrible. Like every other 'snowmaggedon' this appeared greatly exaggerated.

We ended up with only about 4 inches falling and less than 2 inches sticking in town. I got to ride out the weekend in the hospital thanks to a heart attack early Friday morning, but my car did successfully start yesterday late afternoon despite being out in the cold and snow all weekend, and I got home safely despite some idiot drivers.

Glad for schools being closed today, though, so I can stay home guilt-free (no external guilt, all internal). Ironically, I still need to go up very near campus today, because that's where my pharmacy is and I got a bunch of new prescriptions, yay. But the roads are reasonably passable already.

Good to hear you're feeling better. And glad to see that the storm overall was closer to 2018 than 1993.

A lot of this is melting so I'm keeping an eye for the and refreeze part of melt and refreeze.

My job was busy as all get out in the two days leading up to the snowfall. Said snowfall is so deep that I opted to stay home yesterday and today.

I can live with that.

Yea, I lived in the mid-south area during the 1993 storm, that was something.... Some areas had no power for over a month.

We got 17/18 inches here in CT. No school today (though the snow was much lighter today) and no school tomorrow as well. My wife did a really impressive job shoveling out and we could theoretically get out if we cleared the vehicles (she won't let me shovel snow since I had a heart attack a few years ago).

This is more snow than we've had in one storm in quite a few years. My daughter is in middle school and was too young to remember the last time.

-ZacWilliam, now the question is if there's another nor'easter next weekend.

About 18 inches here, too. Work was still open. But, oh no, I started shoveling too late and didn't make it. How tragic.

I have no frame of reference to that because in 1993, I was living in Iowa worried the Mississippi River was going to flood us out after it got within a few blocks of our house.

What kind of wind are you guys getting? I'm obviously getting only the weak outer edge of this thing but the wind right now is ferocious.
