What stupid thing did the GOP say or do this time? Episode 3!

You might want to look into other VPN services too at some point.. NordVPN for all it's advertised isn't great for anything but making your traffic look like it comes from somewhere else. Mullvad VPN is one I've seen recommended if you want something more secure and anonymized, but I have also heard that some sites do block IPs associated with it because bad actors also love that sort of thing.

To put it more simply, Mullvad has proven in legal court they do not log anything that goes through their service. NordVPN does log. Keep that in mind and put it against your own personal threat model when choosing among these or other VPN providers. (And if you feel the need to go deeper, make sure you don't leak DNS requests or other traffic outside the VPN!)

I'll almost certainly want something more secure down the road, but for my basic workaround requests and threat alerts, Nord will get the job done for the time being. I appreciate the recommendation.

A bill to ban data brokers from existing was never going to get enough support to pass anyway. It would bankrupt half the tech industry, and if there's any industry that has both parties in their pockets, it's those guys.

FB friend:
The GOP is going to pretend that all the damage they do during the shutdown is the Democrats' fault. The worst thing is that half of the country will totally believe this, no matter how idiotic it is.
When Republicans act surprised that Trump is hurting innocent people, I'm reminded of the people on "My 600-lb Life" who stare at the scale saying "I've been eating right, I don't understand". It's a lie, of course: they know perfectly well that they haven't been "eating right". They know exactly how they got here. They just don't want to admit it.

It's the same with Republicans. Republicans know exactly how they got here. They just pretend not to understand, because they don't want to admit that they made this happen.
We've officially entered the phase of Republicans believing Democrats have time-travel technology: they're looking at published definitions of "fascism" and assuming that they were written specifically to make Trump look bad.

Eh, of all the criminal actions and power grabs, violating the Hatch act a few thousand times is just a drop in the bucket

wonko the sane?

You may test that assumption at your convinience.

DO NOT DO THAT!

Once is enough, and would be disqualifying for a democrat. Don't enforce the double standard, don't let it become "Oh, that's just donny being donny". Be outraged, and scream at your reps about it.

I could point at any of a hundred thousand things Trump and his goons have done that would've ended a Democrat's career, if not put them behind bars. For the sake of my own blood pressure, I can't keep being outraged at every new horror. I am not trying to belittle the problem, and I am not happy about it, but I can only scream so much.

I know, and I understand. But part of trumps strategy is to normalize the horror. To do so much illegal jive that you eventually get to "That's just trump being trump".

Be angry at the criminal, not the crime.
So much this. It's perfectly fine to step back for one's own sanity. Best thing you can do when you need a break is to stay silent and let others continue the fight while you recharge your batteries.
