US Self-imports becoming harder after July 8?

I only heard about this myself today, and don't recall having seen any discussion about it lately. There is seemingly a new customs policy going into effect on July 8th that requires certificates of having passed US product safety guidelines for a wide range of products, or the product may be seized and/or destroyed. Included in this list is anything labeled toy. I've seen information that Adult Collectables(age 15+) and secondhand items may be exempt, but DHL has apparently been testing the rules voluntarily for the CPSC and been pre-emptively seizing dolls and the like.

It's hard to find concrete information on it because all the documentation is aimed at large businesses. Sellers like BBTS should have things in order already I'd expect, so the biggest impact would be things like us buying from overseas sellers, particularly when there's no English information indicating age and to an underpaid customs worker who doesn't collect, a toy is a toy.

This talks a bit about it: https://carraglobe.com/cpsc-mandatory-efiling-july-2026/

I think this is the list of product codes affected?

Anyone have any further clarifying information on this, or better sources covering any impact to personal purchases?

I don't know. If I had to guess what's going to happen, you don't want to be one of the test cases when this takes effect, but people will adapt until this problem is engineered out of existence and eventually we will forget this was ever a thing. This isn't designed to affect us, but it will, but then it won't.
